That might end up being the case. It also sounds like bases might not be wiped when this is installed, they'd just suddenly be in different biomes? I could test this out with a save I don't care about.
Also, is this interpretation of how biomes will work correct?
- Planets will have multiple biomes in different areas
- Biomes will make sense for the type of planet (desert, toxic, hyperborean, etc)
- Underwater biomes will not be affected

Afaik customisations are saved as their decriptor IDs so you can do that
But Getting Head just let you do it with a few clicks in game cos why do it the hard way
But with save editing you might be able to get a Vykeen Head on a Gek

One that I made a base on because it had them no appears to no longer have any. Anyone familiar with No Man's Sky Save Editor?
I've been told to use it to transfer my Permadeath account to any mode of my choosing.
I've been playing on Permadeath for hundreds of hours, got a maxed-out S-class capital freighter, maxed out S-class Hauler and a maxed out S-class fighter. It's been kinda lonely in Permadeath and when I joined this server and tried to play with other people I realized most of them play on Normal, rarely on Survival and none on Permadeath.
Anyone know if there's a mod that can up draw distance. Tired of grass appearing right under my feet.

Which is a very dangerous capability.
To what I know most people are nice about it.
Most of the time I do save edits is for
1: OCD and inventory layout
2: Changing my ship's seed after I find a really badass one
3: Genuinely wanting something that's otherwise impossible to acquire (these are things like the gek head in the current community thing, though I still contribute)
Now as for mods involving some edits like that, I recently threw one together if you want to be able to do the main questline while in creative mode.
Just edits GCDEBUGOPTIONS.MBIN to enable godmode, make everything free, and all of that jazz.
This is what I used to record the atlas path questline without the grind.
I hope they don't decide to prevent save editing. 90% of the time I've edited my saves it's been to fix THEIR bugs. 😛

It is vanilla. The only thing changed is the vanilla plant/leaf/grass colors are rearranged a wee bit and those custom colors you see there in the grass were added. @tropic raptor

All the goodness of the previous version plus the vanilla/default HG grass colors have been "tweaked" to get a slightly more natural softer feel to match the custom colors better.
Is there a mod which supports 60-degree triangle building pieces, like ARK's Structures Plus mod? Is this even possible in NMS?
With S+, you could either add angled end caps to rectangular structures easily, or make hexagonal or dodecagonal structures easily. A square and a triangle floor piece snapped together make a 30-degree angle, which leads to lots of fun options.

My Base is is so big that many components appear only at the very last moment and in the photo mode from the distance it looks even worse, because I only can see placeholders for the actual component. PC version ofcourse...

play 2 hours and bored
FONV tho, took around 10 hours too to setup, but I play it through
moving computer breaks something tho, but now it fixed Im already off from it too long to be bothered
Last time I redid my mods on Skyrim I spent a whole day and then played like 10 hours lol
it is that long cause it is a series of 20+ mods that have many reliance on each others and change a tons of models

@hearty wasp Oh I see. I assume if that redudancy breaks then loading into a save with the base will cause the game to crash. It seems unlikely that they'd remove that failsafe though; probably makes adding new content easier for them.

Agreed on the death. Valhalla, brother. I'm going to tentatively add the mod because I'm a Sims nut and house decorating -- err, base building would be even more addictive if I had more parts.
One last question, because the technicalities drive me crazy: If something went wrong, and I modified my save to delete the base -- what happens to the base already uploaded to the NMS servers? Does it linger as a ghost and will it crash the game for others who come to my planet? What if I build a new base on the same spot as the previously uploaded one?
I guess if deleting the base in the save also removed it from the servers that would be super convenient.
If you deleted the base entirely, using the save editor, I expect there will still be a ghost on the server... You could try giving someone the coordinates for your planet, and they go look there while you're offline.

Deleting the parts of the base using the editor, then deleting the base normally from in game (or just rebuilding it, if the problem had then been resolved) would probably avoid anything strange with the server.
I agree @heavy merlin. I didn't know you could do that. I haven't seen the save structure yet (I haven't tried to modify a save) so I didn't realize bases were stored part for part. Your solution, if that's the case, sounds exactly perfect for fixing it should something come up.
well the first entry in the base save is always the base computer so it'd be easy to just delete all the entries after that

I just didn't want any permanant damage to be a potential. I have a communication station that refuses to delete and that drives me INSANE. So a whole base-wide issue would probably make me quit lol
With all the stuff that can be uploaded to the NMS servers, I'm afraid something's going to break eventually lol. Like someone's going to mod a base with an SQL injection in the IDs or something and the devs are going to have to finally crack down on modding lol
tbh I wouldn't be too surprised if that sort of thing's a thing that can happen lol
I worry, too, that modding is eventually going to break whole planets. Take for instance your shark attack again. If your mod goes defunct, and people have uploaded modded bases (but don't have the technical know-how to remove them via save editing) then whole planets will be unvisitable.
This is why modding + multiplayer is usually a no-go. Especially in a game like this where you can literally upload things to affect the server

find how many different possibilities there are for species so I guess that is what was wanted. I originally thought maybe they meant combination of all animals on a planet, or something, but no, just possibilities for a single animal.

What I mean is, for example if there was only 5 different parts to make an animal, say head,body,legs,arms and tales then you would get the answer from the factorial operation 5x4x3x2x1 and that will give you the number of possible combinations... So im looking for the exact amount of possible "creature" parts to get a factorial figure... I can then divide that by restrictive parameters to get a figure of the amount of "possible creatures" that can be procedurally generated.

It's nowhere near that simple though, as it's not just a set of parts that can be combined in any combination, certain parts only go with other parts...

There isn't really a "scam" going on here, I'd say. I think his passion just stifles his way of speech, not much unlike Hello Games' prior situation (aside from this being related to modding the game rather than the development of it).
Except, of course, that situation extended to more than just speech, but actual video footage of the game (but that's in the past anyway).

Yeah I do think he likes to boast about his mod a lot, and I’d be willing to bet we’re not going to see it released for some time. I remember how long it took for the atlas rises version of his mod
finally fixed most of the major issues in the mod from feedback from all mod users,collisions are fixed in nearly all remaining props.,there are still a few props that dont have collisions,but those props dont even open with the mod tools, so i cant fix those. but otherwise, most issues are fixed. tag me if any new issues props up. https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/493

Used mod builder to add big things in since it had the script normal scale is "5" . . . loaded game and thought the grass was to big. Alt-f4 to close changed scale to 2. . . now the grass is taller than wood walls. . . How does this work?

Ok. A few that would enable a lot more options are:
Sloped Cuboid Rooms, since the base game only has curved roof pieces
the Facade ones are already that tho
Triangular cuboid rooms (60-degree equilateral; can snap to square cuboid rooms to allow for options such as hexagonal, dodecagonal, and trapezoidal rooms)
Dodecagonal rooms using these pieces in ARK are close enough to round to be believable. This could let users make structures which look like oversized round rooms, for example.
Triangular cuboid slopes. Ideally, there would be a way to make a slope with one corner or two corners raised.
I might only make Facade versions of them since I don't think there are triangular cuberoom walls/floors
The walls should be the same size, but new floor pieces would be needed
(the walls being the same length is what makes the fun happen)
I'll still have to do the ruin parts and Facade basic walls/floors but I'll drop some of them into the list

after toying with the terrain gen a bit & looking at those again, i see the terrain there being much simpler, or perhaps just shallower. Just has the right lighting/atmospherics to make it look like it may have more depth to it in spots
Yeah. I've encountered a few planets with thick low-laying fog, but I think they were all extreme. It'd be nice to mix that up a bit. Also, distance fog is much thinner now. That's good to show off the longer view distance, but again it needs to be mixed up more. Not every planet atmosphere needs to be clear for miles.
There's a bunch of subtle changes that add up to a very different feel. Old versions had heavy rim-lighting, that was very reduced by pathfinder (my preference) but not completely removed until Next. Pre-Next had heavy a heavy "bottom-light" to emulate bounced skylight (liked this), which is mostly gone after Next.
Harmless fog should be a standard on one in (number) lush planets, they make a greaaaatttt addition to photographing. This is also to not reveal the far vicinity and keep players interested earlier in exploring in the way of “what lays beyond this fog?” The color of the mist can be random according to a palette.

Personally I think water should be heavily biased to very dark colors, but, its still a big improvement from stock, which is terrible
