Yeah someone pointed out that a lot of the differences seen between trailer NMS and current NMS is the use of color, with color in the trailers being more vivid most of the time
which i think is definetely true
(of course theres also the matter of way more variation in everything in the trailers but thats probably a bit harder to implement)
is it possible for a mod to make it so only Experimental multitools show up?

I've also replicated space atmospherics based off of pre-release footages, screenshots, and other images. Alongside creatively making my own templates.

These were all created in real-time through executable memory hacking, prior to porting it to xml, prior to rewriting in python for other purposes... and the full version will have 2 billion 400 million color palette variations.
- Note, this mod is also not glsl shader based and utilizes a unique approach that I've made which allows for different variations of space (dynamically) in-game. Therefore, there are black space systems out there. There are dark space systems out there. There are numerous pre-release space systems out there. There are also vanilla space systems out there... w/o needing to choose one or the other; we can have it all (and also different variations of each).

I am really starting to hate this lack of camera movement options while flying in third person. In first person you could see atmospheric sensors and see a clear 180 by tilting your head side to side.
In third person sure you can see your ship, but you can't see 180 degrees side to side. You just have a wider fov facing forward.

Hold the hotkey and WASD moves the camera, whilst still tracking the ship. Tap the hotkey and it resets the cam

doesnt mess with progress.
and only disadvantages are if theyre outdated, or conflict with each other they could cause weird things, or crashes

Hey, to everyone who has tagged me (in regard to mods)... I apologize if I don't get back right away. My time is being heavily invested into updating my overhaul, which is comprised of numerous overhauls that I've made to every aspect of the game; alongside being a mullti-build hybrid. So, I'm just stepping aside to focus, and also to modernize it for NEXT and also to ensure that I provide an even more awesome stylized experience.

Annnnnd, there's lots of other cool things. NEXT is going to be the best era of modding for this game, with all the new possibilities and new stuff to work with. There have also been some internal things that have changed - which will enable me to push the Overhaul further than I ever have pushed it - and also the NEXT version will make the variety of the pre-NEXT Overhauls - Look modest.

Very strange... When using the Save Editor for Freighters and changing the seed changes the Freighter but NOT the coloring. Is that bugged Save Editor or Bad Seeds?

i guess you wont be able to play online with them on?
multiplayer works fine, they wont see what you see depending on the mod you are using or you might walk faster or fly faster etc but it works. terrain mods make you float in the air or be underground for other people but game still works.
that's why I'm really just getting quality of life mods

As far as I know you can't use mods on multiplayer (unless maybe the other person has them)
I'd say you'd have to test it. Get a UI mod and see, UI mods should be fine
I've used several mods in multiplayer. They only effect the person w them. Ones without it still play like nothings changed.

What's the seed for the apollo character?
the Apollo story character is, to my knowledge, a static model separate from the procedural Traveller model
unless you figure out a way to replace the customizable player model with the Apollo model (assuming the entire model is even rigged properly) you can't just set your "seed" to him
I'm no savefile expert but I don't even think the playermodel uses seeds? Considering it's customizable and not random

save data doesn't use seeds at all for character customization, and apollo is likely done the same way, if not a model entirely.
@opal scaffold once we've hit a stable build of NEXT I'll update Cockpit Cloak. Atm for all I know they may change something in the relevant files across each quick update (for whatever reason) which would require me to update it repeatedly for each version to maintain compatibility.
There's also a good chance that they might not, but the less repeated work I have to put in the better as far as I'm concerned.

@shut jewel I got it all figured out. Was mission locked between two missions and overseer was in a loop. just reset the previous 2 missions and all it good now.

Spent the past 9 hours researching how the palettes are handled in NEXT, and also re-structing terrain palette tile types and various shader related work for my fan project
Bioluminescent worlds (like this pre-NEXT planet that I found with some of the things that I did) will be possible again.... alongside many other things... and also things that aren't biome color palette related; but purely sky, atmospheric, fog, dynamic weather, in-game postprocessing effects, and a combination of other things

Pre-NEXT snapshot of a possibility - this time, there will be 4 billion, 300 million different possibilities (all applied carefully with rules in key places and A LOT of strategic testing)

Yeah. Not to sound sensationalistic, but it's complex (in the way that I am doing things) - in between xml, python, and memory hacking... and it's actually a thing in-game. I never released this in the Overhaul yet.
It's a long and tedious process and requires a lot of testing and adjusting to get the proper balance and mix in order to ensure that there's zero wonky results, in the end result.
However, specific approaches can enable you to be 100% sure of consistency within certain aspects of it.
Without a lot of testing
I expected as much being the game is truly massive and the simplest changes can effect things throughout the entire galaxy but none the less I am super excited!

98% of the overhaul mod is my work yeah... there's hundreds of thousands of mods in there, from making different things every day
But it's intended to feel like an addition to the game
rather than a mod
With all things balanced and blended in a particular fashion
But every day is a step further in progression and refinement

Mods in No Man's Sky are clientsided. So, if two or more users are using the same mod; they will have the same experience. Users who are not using the same mods, will not have the same experience. So, if you use mods and plan to use multiplayer with a friend or a group of friends... make sure that they are using what you use π

Id like to be able to set my ship to go into a sort of survey mode and just browse a planet while I'm inside moving around in the ship only monitoring passively.
Maybe spend my time in the ship crafting or repairing things. Micromanaging
I forgot to say something about PlanetLifePro... It increases the overall solar system radius. So travelling from planet A to planet B is a bit longer and tweakier. So have fuN!

Large is an understatement lol...It took me literally 3 mins to go from one planet to another non-stop boosted. Travelling is boring.

The planet feels bigger. I dunno if that's the mod.
Large asteroids are bigger, they have more HP so its harder to break em fully. More asteroids per solar system, raised up to 750k asteroids. that might be the mod idk.

I used them to kill an entire raiding party attacking me
I pulled the star wars through an asteroid field gig
The small ones can now give you 0 resources

That change to asteroids is the best part imo...so far
Patch 5 actually fixes a little annoyance with large asteroids which tends to stick very close next to each other.
That's not a bad thing necessarily if you're good at maneuvering
It guarentees baddies crash into them chasing you
Ok so changelog for patch 5 : ships are allowed to twice the max RPM, in space they can travel a little faster minimal speed is now 0 (which is hard to reach anyway). On planets rspeeds have been readjusted to appreciable values. Vehicles are a little more though to handle.

@vagrant bone I don't know what the maximum is, it depends on the base stats RNG maximum, it might be 14 or 15 or higher, in which case the maximum would be 53, for example. It's super unlikely though. My best is 41.

No
NMS has terrible widescreen support. You can play on multiple monitors but the HUD will be stretched to oblivion.

But even just ONE joystick would make my LIFE.
Its not like No Mans Sky has a flight model complicated enough to justify a full hotas anywys.
You can't strafe, you can't trim, all but the most basic aerial maneuvers are null because you fly on rails essentially.
Not even workable as far as I'm concerned. There's no adjustable input for the yaw, so you're either 100% yaw or no yaw regardless of the severity of the input.
If they fixed 'that' then I'd happily take the x360ce adaptation.
I'm guessing a whole bunch is going to get better in the next few months

Yeah, it requires a bit of planning
It should be configured so that you need Pulse Fuel to leave the planets surface, otherwise you just can't achieve Escape Velocity and end up scraping the sky with a ball of fire for a face.
But you're otherwise unrestricted from flying around.
Survival mode puts you on some freaking impossible planets sometimes.
Such a change would make those planets more....'possible'.

There's about 11k hours invested into it... but if you're curious as to a bit about what it is... I wrote this out:
Regarding my approach for NEXT
From mid-2016 to Atlas Rises, I had a lot of biome work. There was about 15,000 biomes with different rules. However, although the experience was mostly consistent... there were some issues (due to fragments of outdated work) from the early days of the project that became extensive to find. I decided to scrap it all eventually.
But this is what I had in mind when scrapping it... "With the experience that I've obtained from this work, I want to do a fresh new take on all of the biomes that I did in the past, I want to look at all of the videos of random planets that I found, loved and recorded and re-make them as standalone biomes, I want to replicate all trailer biomes, off the record pre-release biomes in leaked footages, biomes only found in screenshots or hard to find articles, all IGN footage biomes, while also keeping all of the PS4 RC1 build (only accessible via bluray when deleting all updates) biomes that I ported from the PS4 build that I decrypted, 2016 biomes, two alternate 2016 biomes, better worlds biomes (with templars permission), Foundation biomes, Pathfinder biomes, my custom Pathfinder biomes, Atlas Rises Biomes, and NEXT biomes) and 15,000 other custom biomes that are non-related to those things but creatively made."
So, it won't be losing anything, but I'll be making superior versions of all biomes... also, with this new "Seamless Generation" feature that I've made - which allows for a near consistent universe with almost no need for fading; where everything shall feel as if it was already there and always willl be there.
And the general rule for the NEXT version is this... "Every moment in-game, must feel like a concept art". It must be perfection. No wonkiness.
And since I repaired all unused biome assets and calculated their colission verts, removed their bluriness, and gave them relevant mining healths in relation to their size... that also adds a lot more presence to the game.
And this opportunity, also provides room to restructure, reorganize the mod, and to take things further than ever before.
There are also numerous non-biome related things functioning in the fan project that affect the biome experience, as almost every area of the game is (overhauled in my own take).

Yeah, there's a lot going on and it's a rabbit hole of a niche area to dive into. It has required countless hours of researching Hello Games, their old footages, radically exclusive "hard to find articles that only were obtainable at one point in time", conferences, trailers, off the record footages, interviews and screenshots.... alongside other time dedicated to reverse engineering the executable, data mining, studying the files in general, learning different programming languages and eventually applying, testing, theory,creative improvizaton... and eventual refinement
I also had to decrypt the PS4 build at one point to get information to something that I needed... lol

In the IGN footages there's clock related UI data that is still functioning. In the RC1 PS4 build... that happens to be still functioning, unlike the first official release (unlike all released versions).
So, I hope to eventually port that functionality to the PC version, like I did the PS4 RC1 biomes as additional biomes to the modernized game. As all eras of the game have their own unique kind of style that does add more variety and exploration inventive when modernized.

I just had an idea for a mod. "Freighter Roleplay" with NPC in your freighter that serve various roles that you have to put them into for "social events". A branch off of the freighter missions but involving only the primary freighter in the fleet, instead of commanding your fleet to do things, you'd command individual NPC. Maybe a pilot that mines the local asteroids or a researcher that explores the local planets to categorize their resources, or an engineer that slows down the system degradation of your fleets various integrated systems
Turn your freighter fleet into a living breathing ecosystem through interaction systems that promote bonding
Unique character traits that can grow in various ways including social events (race your NPC, laser tag, puzzles, language challenges, etc)
Character traits like "Bold" for an engineer might reward you with faster repairs of more critical systems, or traits that allow NPC to get a general idea what they think you'd want based on your previous requests for a sort of "Self Starter" autonomy trait so they'd do things without being asked...
meh...Too much work for a single mod. That's probably a full update.
@dreamy tulip and last thing i ask, sorry, but the mods that say they work on 1.52.2 and they're about faster scanning or faster pulse drive, will be still working? i just don't want to start the game with 1.53 and something weird ruins my save game xD

The only files that changed are the executable, and other than that... just audio files. So, all mods should still not need updating

So, even after over 11,000 hours of working on this ambitious fan project alone.... I've still barely scratched the surface.
Also, the reason why I put great emphasis on "11k hours", is to point towards a bigger picture... which is... the scope of this project is so large, and it's becoming a hybrid of every released build and every known and unknown mysterious pre-release build... but what I am really trying to say (which some people might not get) is that.... "I have spent this long, because I am passionate about No Man's Sky and enjoy working with it as a hobby) - but even after this long, I've still barely scratched the surface of what this 'fan project' will ultimately become in the long run - as there's so much scope to cover, and things to do,and more research required to fully bring what I am picturing into fruition. So, I'm really saying the opposite of "I know everything, and I think that I'm better". I'm really saying this: I am super passionate about this, but the more that I learn, the more that I realize how much I still need to learn, and I have great plans, and every day is a step closer towards reaching this vision.

Okay, so... I personally use psarc.exe
This is my quick method
(There are gui's on mod sites) but I find this quicker to my personal taste
PSARC-Tool can open .pak files.... so I have it set to automatically recognize .pak files when I double click them for quick extraction
And mbins automatically open up with the MBINCompiler when double clicking
And exml's I open up by right clicking to open with Notepad++
And I double click on the exml, to compile it
And then drag the folder ontop of psarc.exe quickly
And then rename the file, to "mod name" .pak

And the modified file consits in that directory
You would drag the folder ontop of psarc.exe
As the files need to be in the proper heirarchy (resembling how the unpacked game is)
And yeah, you rename to .pak
so ud recompile the whole folder that the 1 file was in>?

I would not pack the files in > SHADERS
I would pack the shaders folder itself
But only keep the modified files that I want to be packed in that folder when I pack it

I think thats part of the appeal of the game, if you were able to fully customise your ship why would you go out and look for new ones?
though maybe some stationary dealerships could be in the game to make it easier to find a ship you want.
a system could be created so that you can build a ship, but using parts obtained from ships you salvaged. so you still have to find the ship you want, break it down, and use the piece you want from it, then find another with another piece you want. etc.
Though to keep stats/tiers relevant you'd need to make each part have it's own stats.
Some work and thought would need to be put into that
but it'd keep the appeal of finding new ships, and give you the option to "customize" it as well.. even to an extent, the stats.
though it'd still be in line with stats found on ships already.

@fiery plume mods are local side. They effect how the game behaves for the player using them. Should multiple players group together, those without the mods can (and most likely will) be impacted on some degree.. It could be as simple as not seeing what the modded player can see, or as bad as players being in the same lobby but parallel dimensions and unable to play with each other..
@zenith shoal I believe it's still the Atlas Save Editor.. it's just been getting updated to support NEXT.. but the author never reuploaded a new version, just continually updating the mod page..

@west notch name doesn't matter except there are some special characters that can't be used in the name. Can't remember what they are. Normal naming convention should work fine. Also (I believe) you can have them load in an order based on name.

they'd be able to walk right through it, and if I stood on top of it they'd just see me floating?
So, I have a weird question and haven't done anything like this for NMS before. My quest progression for the base archives has broke and I am no longer seeing the quest and nothing is triggering. Is there a place inside the save that I can edit to either reset the entire quest or kick it hard in the face to make it trigger again? I looked briefly in the NMS save editor the other night but nothing was screaming "quest goes here"
Is there any way to set up a HOTAS for NMS:Next?

I believe that you came across an "Extreme Planet" as some players are intended to always be extreme in weather
Some have ocassional storms
Some not at all
Would you like this only for lush?
Or for all biomes?

- Makes everything salvaged technology when you find those buried things and not 80% nanite and 20% salvaged technology
And another one that:
- Fewer freighter battles, because after two or three they become pretty repetitive and boring

Mod idea : a mod that'd show your planetary coordinates on your ship's HUD while you're in the atmosphere, to avoid landing to check them.
whenever i'm underground in a cave. the floating orbs will glitch out depending on the angle and create these distorted colors
is there any way to mod the game to remove the orbs from in game?
Ships and players have this issue as well, it's not just the orbs unfortunately. Even some grass does it, totally ruining immersion.
yeah, it tends to have some intense moments here n there but i've only noticed it's the orbs floating in caves
tend to be randomized RGB colors and will come n go as you navigate
@dreamy tulip Is it possible to make a mod that disables the story, 'a la what happens in Creative Mode? I'd quite honestly rather play the game without it, as the story nowadays feels more like a drawn out tutorial over anything else.
