Yeah, https://random.cat (the service Nadeko uses) exists, but they disallowed API requests due to abuse (hilariously, by Nadeko itself).

Not without updating the entire bot. Nadeko is c#, meaning everything will need to be recompiled.

it's easier/safer just to update the entire bot than try to splice a change into a compiled binary.

There are other "hacks" I suppose I can try, but as of now I'm not privileged enough on the bot (I'd need machine access) to make them work.

Yeah that's fair. A lot of those bots are poorly written for changes like this. It would be more beneficial for a css style or json style bot that would read the commands in pockets and new commands would just be appended to the doc

Solving the screenshot problem is easy:
Change the #nms-photomode-gallery channel permissions to allow anyone or whatever minimum role to post screenshots.
Then simply let moderators and admins do their job to ban people who break the rules

And @toxic hare the reason we implemented it was because there was a user making repetitive alts and coming on the server every 10 mins to post horrible things, such as beheaded corpses. It was a fix put in place to mitigate that. Yes we caught it fast, but we'd rather not risk subjecting people to that in the first place. We can reassess soon but that happened earlier today so we need to discuss.

Haha yeah I totally understand! We definitely want everyone to participate equally, unfortunately there were a couple bad apples and they spoiled it for others temporarily. We're always happy to discuss these things though.

In the future, you might also get more visibility if you use the --suggest command to submit ideas. We have a separate channel where all of those get submitted, so we don't often check in here (unless pinged 😉)

The best option for that @half orbit is to check out the pinned thread on the reddit, and upvote any issues you're having/follow any issues you're having (In addition to reporting ofc).
It's such a better medium for being able to see who is having the same issue/any solutions that have been given. Discord doesn't lend itself well to that kind of thing - and you've got about 4x the amount of people on our subreddit too, to help! 😄

We have created a #471700194245869569 for overflow chat. We have quite a number of channels already and are reluctant to add a help channel specifically because of the expectations it sets.

I’ve seen loads of community members in both doing their best to help people new to the game (although the changes in NEXT renders is all newbies by default)

Add a chat channel detected to multilingual people because this is the no man's sky official discord and not everyone speaks or even understand English. Doing this would allow more people from the no man's sky community from all around the world to participate.

We're restricted slightly by our resources, as of course we would need Moderators etc to head up multi-lingual side of things, so we are compliant with Discord T&C's. That way it can be a chat room to talk about bugs and glitches and see how many people are having them to help out Hello.

maybe change NMS chat to questions/general and make 3 new channels for pc, xbox, ps4. would make finding people for their platform easier. The regular NMS channel can be for quick questions people may have that someone can answer quickly from any platform.

I dont know how difficult this would be to implement but to make it easier for people to see what area people are from before joining a vc maybe set up a channel where you can send an emote and it will set a role for that region or console or whatever. This way people can see people's regions and they dont have to deal with latency

I find it quite difficult to come by screenshots of peoples characters. There is alot to choose from and I dont see anyone really sharing it. even #nms-photomode-gallery lacks it quite. Been scrolling for a while.

a no-spoiler NMS room. because people need somewhere to go where they can be assured that spoilers wont be posted, as well as somewhere where they can specifically talk about them. The normal NMS rooms frequently drop spoilers because they just come up in conversation.

I got a small list of things that I think would benefit the server and avoid uncessary tension between the community and the moderation staff, here's what I got:

-Change player's name according to their platform (i.g PC - red/ PS4 - Blue/XBOX - Green). That way evryone is easily identifiable and you won't have to check evry person's profile to figure out where they are (praticality over simplicity).

Change #no-mans-sky and #471700194245869569 to platforms and add a third channel for the third channel for the remaining platform. You make it even more easier for people to talk with each other and ensure a easier conversation between the platforms.

-Alternativly you can englobe both feautures mentioned above by using the bot to configure roles to their respective channel platforms therefore leaving only a General Channel and #bot-spam to be avaible when a new member join the server.

-Improve on the current roles: This one is for me the most important, afaik, the current roles allow players to use any feautures at their disposal after reaching Familiar status, instead of having that I'd suggest you guys remove it and englobe privilleges in either a single role and configure each channel to be used based on what you guys expect it to be used for (i.g having to tell people not to post pictures and videos in #no-mans-sky even though they are given the privillege to do so by the channel, not good mixture if you ask me).

@tropic star Thanks for your suggestion. Right now, we do have platform specific rooms already, tied behind the platform the user subscribes to - #roles :)
We would love to colour these roles however the hierarchy of the levelled roles and unique roles we already have in place here would conflict with that, but it may be something we can look in to.

Regarding roles and their privileges, while we have had to disable screenshots for anyone below familiar due to gore/NSFW image spam, we do leave screenshots enabled in the NMS specific channels so that people can show by way of a screenshot what they are looking for help with. In context, images in those channels are fine. However if they are being used simply to showcase content that should be in #nms-photomode-gallery that's a different matter! 😃

@brittle furnace Unfortunately, Discord doesn't lend itself well to being an encyclopaedia of things like that. Wikis, and even the subreddit are much more appropriate. A channel dedicated to that sort of thing would see people's amazing finds drowned out within seconds, at the speed some of these channels move! 😃 We can work alongside the reddit and the other communities though to link to these resources where needed! 😃

I don't use reddit and the wikis aren't what you just suggested they be used for. Like in Arma 3 when it comes to crews and people looking for teams to play with. Each one gets a name, a single post, and people can search certain tags they put in their post. such as "peaceful" "giant" "exotics" etc

some even include specific links to discord channels for those teams. allowing for a hub like network center for things.

The way I see it, this is a recipe for disaster, I can be just speaking for myself but I for one detest when a mod has to enforce rules in any way and I believe it's safe to assume that most mods don't like it either, to avoid any potential missunderstandings and just the usual drama I do insist that you guys at the very least review privillages to the user base in certain channels ( #no-mans-sky and #471700194245869569 as mentioned before) because, from my expirience, people hate rules in the first place, giving them privillages and then trying to enforce how they should use them will only unecessarly frustrate both users and moderators down the line.

People can always post the link of their pictures and videos in these channels and avoid having to trigger a mod to enforce the rules, less fun but way more productive.

Would it be at all possible for default members (white names) to upload images to the #472099196443557899 channel? It would greatly speed up the process and allow us to help them quicker. Right now, they have to resort to third-party tools or resources, such as Imgur. There's a really shocking number of people (that I've helped here) that don't use a screenshot tool, and don't have an imgur account. They get stuck on how to send a screenshot, and some even resort to uploading it to #nms-photomode-gallery and telling us to look over there.

Suggestion: Reduce requirements for posting screenshots to level 1... This is more like most other discord "servers", and will still prevent the hit-and-run meme spamming with new accounts and stuff that the screenshot restriction is presumably there to counter, but allow people who have been here a bit to post normally to channels instead of having to resort to the screenshot channel.
