Playing on survival. am I alone like everyone seems to be on normal... [Question]

New to the game been playing on survival but any time I look for guides it's always normal, this to me at least seems to invalidate a lot of them, I find for example a ship might cost 12 million on normal but on survival I'm seeing ships like 30 or 40 million for A class.

is it possible to convert a save to normal or should I start over , is it worth staying on survival , is there any benefits to it whats the real differences other than everything just costing an arm and a leg.

I'v been enjoying survival but I don't like being the only guy in the anomaly that kinda sucks.

Markets system wide or terminal specific? [Question]

Is the market the exact same system-wide or does it vary between individual market terminals(or terminal types) in the same system? I've seen a tooltip that trade posts have better prices, but are they otherwise all the same? Say between my base terminal and the station, or between the two station ones?

Who believes the sol system should be added? (Our solar system!) [Discussion]

I feel like the solar system along with all of the dwarf planets and some moons would be really cool. Imagine exploring for a long time and being like "I wanna go home" and flying back to an Earth colony! It would be so awesome! Like I heard others say, it's funny how we're given a whole universe in something like Elite Dangerous but many people just cannot turn down a trip to their home if they can go.

Also, imagine landing on Venus or Mars and flying past Jupiter and Saturn. Seeing the Moon from Earth's sky. And so much more! At this point, with all of No Man's Sky's updates, who wouldn't expect the solar system? Please tell me what you think about this and whether or not you've heard anything about adding it - thanks for reading!

Help with Apollo quest, first time using portal [Question]

Hi everyone I hope someone will be able to help me, I really do not want to have to restart my game but I fear that I will…

I was doing the Artemis quest and went through the first portal no problem, came out did whatever was needed and went up to the space anomaly to speak with Nada. Upon leaving the space anomaly I was prompted to either stay in current system or join my party members system… I accidentally went into their system and now the main quest is in some random system I cannot get to as I did not visit the space station yet…

It is saying target quest out of range and I have been following the green line for the current quest in the galaxy map jumping 1500LY at a time. I have gone through about 40 systems approximately and still do not even see the target system. I have tried restarting the quest but it still targets that super far away system. Have anyone experienced this or have a solution? Is the Atlas quest an alternative for the Apollo quest? Or is my game broken and I will not be able to complete a main quest?

Thanks in advance!

TLDR: went thru glyph portal first time, left the system and now there is a quest in a far away system and I cannot get back.

Annoying laser bug 😥 [Bug]

Hi guys, I'm sorry if this has been somewhere else but I can't find it anywhere. When I'm running around there is a mystery laser beam hitting the floor or walls Infront of me all the time. It'll briefly stop them randomly start again. It's ruining the game for me and I can't fix it. Any help please fellow travellers 🙏 Thanks

Collecting Companions/Breeding & Training [Discussion]

Okay, I was talking with my buddy about this and we both thought it could be pretty cool. Not sure what the general consensus would be but thought I’d throw it out there to see.

What if you could have somewhere around 50 companions and you could level them up, breed them, trade them and fight them against other players or AI? Kinda think Pokémon in NMS. You could go to different types of planets looking for rare companions that you could level up in different ways and decide how you want to use them.

And yes, I realize you can kinda breed them when it comes to the egg sequencer. I just feel like this is going another step further and would give us a really good reason to explore more planets.

I don’t know, it was just a thought so I figured I’d throw it out there to see what peoples opinions were lol

Mission log stuck since update? [Question]

Hi, I'm wondering if this is a general issue or just me? Since update 3.65 my mission log has been stuck on the settlers, I can't change it to any other mission, the missions I do get don't progress, it also won't show build time for settlement buildings ora notification if a visitor arrives? Is anyone else having this issue?

No Man's Sky: Legacies (a wishlist) [Discussion]

I've been playing a lot of Frontier's lately. I'm not loving the time barriers, but it got me exploring my local cluster and thinking about how I'd like to see this all play out.

I'm calling the next update "Legacies" for reasons. I realize that this is a big, long wish list.

Give players the ability to "influence" systems

The idea here is that: Track mapped regions. Planets already have mappable regions that segment the planet (see exploration section below). These territories would be used as the unit of influence on the planet. Mapping regions gives a possible zone of influence. Bases become outposts. Establishing an outpost within a region provides more influence and control. Bases can become settlements (see below). Settlements for influence. Settlements should be for more than generating rusted metal and instead also act as the epicenter of influence on a planet. As the settlement grows, the area of influence can grow to include mapped adjacent mapped territories. Location, location location. Settlements are improved not just by player actions, but by the resources and planet features (like factories and depots and trading posts and observatories) within the area of influence. So settlement matters.

To make this work: players can control more than one settlement. I'd recommend that you can "staff" an overseer for multiple settlements. The overseer's priorities (economic development, population growth, defense, etc.) can be set by the player and can change over time. planets can have multiple settlements. player constructed bases can be converted to settlements with the construction of basic buildings: e.g., overseers' office, town center and housing units. New settlements can only be established outside another settlement's zone of influence. I'd...

I'm Unable to build the Overseer's Office [Question]

I started playing the game recently and established my first settlement. The issue I'm running into is that I can't get to the overseer's office construction site because it's buried under a hill. Since I can't mine within the settlement limits I'm not sure how I can get around this... is my settlement screwed at this point or has anyone found a workaround?

Been on and off NMS since launch and just got really into it during the last big update - so here my question: Is it normal that NMS receives 5 Million updates in a month? [Question]

I have update-PTSD from Modern Warfare - constantly having to keep an watchful eye on storage all the time to keep the playstation-storage wormhole satisfied and i just want to sit down, power up the ps4 and play some games, but almost every time there is an NMS update queued.. is this normal? will it become less frequent?

Finally Starting Out [Question]

I bought this game at release, and now after years of seeing loads of updates I'm finally jumping in.

I know it's changed a lot since the beginning, and there's lots of things I don't understand/isn't explained.

I'm very early on, just built my first base and built the teleporter, when I went to use it, there were seemingly 3 other user bases on the 3 planets I'd visited in the system I'm in? It says I've discovered the planets on 14th Sept. and they'd all built them on that day too.

Are these real people's bases? Do people start on the same planets?

I kinda miss aggressive HUGE Fauna that used to be much more common pre-NEXT. [Discussion]

For those of you like myself that were around before NEXT update dropped, you might remember that there used to be a time where you could run into HUGE animals that were naturally aggressive.

Stuff like giant T-Rexes, giant raptors, and more. And when they attacked you, it really took a lot of damage, and sometimes sent you flying back.

Sure, we do have some naturally aggressive animals still, but from what I’ve seen at least, they are never HUGE animals like giant Diplos, giant Kthulus/crabs, etc. only medium to small sized ones.

And I don’t know if I’ve just had bad luck finding them, but ever since NEXT, I’ve rarely if ever found really giant creatures that were naturally aggressive all the time without provocation.

I think making some large creatures naturally more aggressive could do a lot in terms of making certain planets more threatening and unique. It just feels like all the giant creatures are gentle giants these days, which is fine and great, but I’d just like to see more behavior variety from them.

NMS good for coop? [Question]

I bought the game a some time ago to play with friends, but even thou the multiplayer aspect of it was already implemented, it felt lacking. It felt more like a single-player game in a world with other people rather than an actual multiplayer game. What I mean is, there was not much to do together, everyone was doing their own thing and the closest thing to playing together we could do was place our houses on the same planet, which was supper buggy and the structures keep disappearing for some reason.

Now having past like a year since then, how would you rate this game in terms of coop? did they add anything interesting to do with other people? I want to come back and play with some other friends but I am afraid it will still be the same thing and boring to play coop. What are your veteran's opinions?

Help finding settlements [Question]

I bought several 'settlement coordinates' from the space station, used one while standing on my planet of choice, but it located a settlement on an adjacent acidic planet. Kind of a bummer.

Instead of just using another coordinate, I went to the acidic planet settlement in the off chance it was an A or S class (do they spawn above B?) or was really cool, etc. It kind of is, its located in a crater with caves off to two sides, so I done took it. But my main query is on why the coordinates I used located this one.

Are there only a few settlements per system? Are there many settlements per planet? Why would the coordinates find a settlement on a different planet rather than the one I was standing on? Are using the coordinates randomized to include off planet sites?

Been playing ~200 hours in survival mode, currently in hilbert dimension galaxy. Usually when I use a set of coordinates for any building, it'll locate one on the same planet that I'm on (either standing on or flying in the atmosphere). But in this case it did not.

Learning Languages [Information]

I'm sure a lot of people already figured this out, but this is just something I've come to really find helpful in getting to a semi-comprehensive level in any of the languages in NMS on new play-throughs. When picking a word type always pick Mystery when you can. A lot of the time they tend to be conjunctions and are so critical to most sentences that you can sometimes just guess missing words based on context. They are also words you don't want your translator to translate because people will say a bunch of conjunctions in every dialogue box. Learn them ASAP!!

New player encounters bugs [Bug]

Hi guys! I encountered two bugs today. First is that names which I gave to my planets disappeared. Second bug was when I built some new rooms in my freighter. After building a room doors were still shut and I couldn't get into my new room. Has anybody encountered these bugs as well? Any ideas what to do now?

Are pirates side missions busted right now? [Bug]

About 10 times now I take the mission. Go the the marker and nothing is there, never shows up, and when I leave I can never get another marker for it. Should I just avoid these for now? They worked fine several days ago.

Thoughts on NMS Mods in 2021 [Discussion]

Hey guys!

New-ish player here. I'm about 60 hours into the game, I've completed the main story and most of the secondary quests as well. I think I still have to build one of the exocrafts and harvest a plant or something..

Anyways. I was looking into more end-game stuff for NMS and noticed that there are mods available for the game (???) Crazy!

I was always under the impression mods increase the chances of the game not running properly, or reduced performance, etc. I don't know jack about mods. Is that true? What are the possible downsides?

Do you use any of the mods?

I see that some mods "improve" the plant generation, or increase missions payouts, etc. Are there mods out there that actually increase performance of the game?

I'm not looking to cheese the game in any way. I'd certainly like improved performance, since my PC rig isn't the best, or get better quality for the same set up. I'd like to enhance the game itself as much as possible, since now that the story is over, I'm pretty much focusing on exploring, pimping out my freighter and fleet, my settlement and making new players rich.

What are your thoughts on mods? Recommendations?

Is it cheating to get all the trophies twice? [Question]

I have the PS5 version of this game, but my PS5 also allows me to download the PS4 version on it, meaning I can play both versions and get the trophies for both versions. Has anyone else done this? Is it morally acceptable by the NMS community standards to do so? It would look real nice to have 2 platinum trophies next to my name lol.

Free ship glitch? [Information]

Don’t know if this is well known or not.

When you exchange your ship for a new one in the space station, you can go back to your old ship while it sits there (before it takes off) and claim it for free.

You can then scrap the old ship to get a lot of your money back, and some valuable resources.

Is it really worth it? [Question]

Having gotten the game on computer I am finally doing the living ship quest line. But the timers. Four days just waiting. How good is the ship going to be? Will it out class a S class ship? Can it be upgraded? Better weapons? Unique weapons? Anything?

I feel like I will be very disappointed if all I get is a new look for basic ship functions. The amount of work I am putting into this makes it seem like a high end “end game” item.

The Stone Half Ramp platform [Question]

Does anyone have guidance on the proper use of this thing? It looks like it's 1/3 of the height of a wall, but will only snap at the top or bottom; It is neither the height of small wall or two small walls; etc. etc.

Still having power issues. Asvuce needed. [Question]

I'm still having problems keeping my batteries storage filled enough to last through the night.

Here's my setup.

I have 8 solar panels. 4 batteries.

The solar panels are connected in series with 1 also wired to the building and to a battery.

The batteries are connected in series.

279k used / 450k available.

Plenty of power during daylight, but at night the batteries only last a few minutes.

Maybe I'm wiring everything wrong. Lol

My issue is that the most my batteries will charge to is about 20%.

If I remove 2 batteries, then the remaining 2 will fill up to 100%.

I also noticed that when battery completely drains, the rest of the batteries shut down, but I assume that's because they're wired in series.

So, I'm assuming that the issue is the solar panels to battery ratio, or it could be how everything is wired.

IDK, that's why I'm asking you experts.

What is the best method to wire the system and fill the batteries up?

Backpack customization?? [Question]

Where are the new backpacks to purchase or acquire??? The only places I know of to get any are at the Quicksilver vendor.... And he only shows one that was from a previous expedition??

The odd thing is that in the customization menu I see like 5 or 6 locked backpacks.... Where does one get those???

And can you still get the ones from the previous expedition?? Why would they still show it available to get if you can't?

I messed up my settlement ;oD [Information]

So, after they fixed the settlement, I thought I would do a bit of "cheating" to not have to wait 1 or 2 hours per building stage... so I used the "setting timer in windows" trick and got a couple of buildings done... turned back to online mode, let windows handle date and time, and now the game think my settlement have been building debt for a year.. :oD

Just came across my first alluring specimen… [Spoiler]

I recently started a new save after having one save with ~70 hours in, but haven’t played since 2019 at least. So here I am, on my way to the coordinates for an ancient alien artifact or whatever on my home planet, it’s in the middle of a giant sea of water that I have to swim out to, and on my way I spotted an alluring specimen on my visor. I thought huh, that’s neat, I don’t think I’ve seen that before. So after I did my thing at the artifact, I swam the few mins or so over to the specimen and scanned it, saw it had stuff I could harvest. So I, of course, immediately took one of the thingies, but before I could even read what I got, out came this angry fuckin fish monster scaring the literal shit out of my poor traveler, and the worst part? I’m In the middle of a giant body of water…so I was constantly wearing down my booster, trying to keep a distance while I struggled to swim back to my ship and, and of course I had to keep checking over my shoulder to see if the mf was gaining any lead. 10/10 would shit my pants again

I read that changing my ps5 clock to sept. 8 would work, but it didn't. Anyone have any other ideas? I'm completely missing Expedition 3 right now. I tried to use the bug thread but it has hundreds of posts and scrolling for twelve hours didn't seem productive.

My sundial video somehow EXPLODED [Information]

Hi. Yesterday I posted a sundial. It was just a little experiment for me, a kind of "proof of concept". Then I went to bed (european time zone). When I woke up, my phone was melting from all the notifications. I am drowning in awards and for some reason I'm reddit premium member now, I don't even know why... seriously, what was happening?

I am overwhelmed and I WISH I could answer every question and thank every award giver. But I simply can't, it's too much and I have a job and an RL ^^

So I decided to just post a picture with the coordinates. Euclid Galaxy. Come and look it up yourself, maybe that answers all questions. :)

To answer one of the FAQ: The sundial was build almost at the equator. Wasnt intended, its coincidence. I've build a second one at the pole and there the shadows behave in another way. A sundial at poles wouldnt be round, its more oval. I didnt figure out why and I deleted it after testing. Maybe I'll post an update some day.

So have fun visiting the sundial. I'd ask you all to behave nice and please don't flood my planet with communication pods ;) (I will regret this, right?)

So far from galactic center [Question]

Does anyone have advice on getting to the center? I started playing a couple years ago, and it picked the game back up, but ive made over 130 jumps and I'm still 500k away from galactic center. Is there something ive missed? With my current drive i need 250 more jumps to make it. Any advice is welcome.

(Rant) ---Developers I'm genuinely begging you to read this--- STOP pushing out the updates when the console versions aren't approved yet!! JUST WAIT GOD DAMIT!!!! [Suggestion]

The constant string of patches lately have been so annoying for me and my friend to enjoy this freaking game

This is more of a rant aimed at Microsoft/Sony then it is for NMS but the devs can easily avoid this

I'm so freaking sick and tired of trying to enjoy the game with friends only to be cockblocked by a god forsaken patch!!! STOP RELEASING THEM SO OFTEN!!!!

I know its due to Microsoft's (and probably Sony) method of "approving" patches and updates for games before they go live, people that play on steam aren't affected because the update goes live as soon as you guys hit the button We players on Console and Windows 10 PC (cause Game Pass) have to fricken wait for Microsoft to approve the update, which usually takes 1 or 2 days

This makes it impossible for people like me to play the Windows 10 version cause my friends have the Steam Version (I'm playing via Xbox Game Pass so it might not even be the actual PC version of the game for all I know)

(somebody feels free to correct me if I'm wrong on the approval process but last I heard its something they do)

My Exocraft Tier List (September 2021) [Discussion]

This seems like a fun discussion, yeah?

S Tier: None

A Tier: Pilgrim (A+): What this Nolan-trilogy Batcycle lacks in usefulness it makes up for in badass drifting. Sure, there's literally no situation where using it is more effective than an alternative, but it's the only exocraft that's legitimately fun. It's easy to get caught up in efficiency and progression in NMS and forget that the real end-game and reason to play is the joy of experiencing. What better way to experience your favorite biome than getting serious air ramping off a small hill and landing into a sick drift? Nautilon (A-): The Nautilon fills a niche and does it decently. It's not very fast, but it saves you from some tedium and resource drain and its mining beam is quite powerful. Gets a minus for lacking a terrain manipulator when ocean basements are so common.

B Tier: Colossus: You want this thing for two reasons: 1.) Dat Beam 2.) Dem Slots. Swiping this beam across the landscape feels like power. If you need a whole lot of something you can already see, this guy will mine it fast. That's the only thing it'll do fast though, so it only really shines if you can teleport it. If you can, it's also a nice emergency 42-slot storage container. What really disappoints me is that you can't stand on it. Look at the thing. It's begging to be stood upon. Clipping straight through it really shatters the whole feel of the thing.

I have 3 mods for exosuit shield: One B, one A, and one S class. All three give me +33% Core Health (essentially 1 additional life point) and more interestingly +89% Shield strength.

Small Buildings Only in Settlement Construction [Question]

I feel like I’m decently far settlement-progression wise. After building the marketplace, dance lounge, 4 landing pads, and 3 towers, the only building opportunities I’ve been getting are the small, 1 room, roughly 6ftx6ft buildings of various names. Can't complete circuit board mission. [Question]

Like I stated, I built a circuit board, but the Overseer will not take it.

When I look at the log entry, it still says to 'Aid the scientist to learn how to make a circuit board'.

I've already done all of those missions, that's how I got the blueprint.

Does anyone know how to complete this mission?

I don't understand some of the settlement decision outcomes [Discussion]

Like I had to decide who an exosuit belonged to. One guy had his name recently written on it. So, I chose him. -2% happiness and an atmosphere of suspicion. Sure, he could have stolen it and just written his name on it. OR it was a NEW exosuit and that's why the writing looked fresh. The other dude had no evidence whatsoever that the suit belonged to him. I made the logical choice. Is this just a damned-either-way type of decision? It has happened to me 2 or 3 times now. The outcomes for either decision are always presented as "unknown."

So, it feels weird to call myself a new player at 25 hours, but this game is MASSIVE. Every time I think I'm starting to get a handle the game introduces more mechanics or cool things, or I realize I've been underutilizing things. It only just recently occurred to me that I don't need ONE PERFECT SHIP, I can have multiple ships that specializing in different purposes and simply summon them when I need them. I didn't even realize that ships had different classifications until I tried to trade one and saw it labelled as a hauler.

Any time I go to a nice paradise planet and use the settlement coordinates, it ALWAYS takes me off planet to one with extreme weather or aggressive sentinels! I’ve gone to several different systems and several different nice “lush” planets and can never get a settlement to spawn on it! HOW???

Travelers that frequent the most dilapidated of pubs will eventually hear this tale at least once. A tale of the big fish in the sea. A horror unlike any other. Nobody knows where this rumor began. Well, except for me. But what is known is that whoever investigates it never returns with their sanity, if even at all. But who doesn't like some chaos.

The rumor began by a hooded figure informing an inspiring Gek of a business opportunity he wouldn't be able to pass up. Kazaik was their name. They were told of a beast in hiding. One of the last of their kind. A valuable entity, to say the least. All Kazaik had to do was round up some Whispering Eggs and find a quiet place in space, far away from any form of civilization. Kazaik could not make the connection between the two, but off he went.

Ten. He was able to gather ten Whispering Eggs before a near death experience with one of the Burrowing Monstrosities forced him to call it quits there. Ten was enough, he thought. And ten would be enough. He would take these ten eggs to an abandoned Solar System and that's where he would wait for his catch. It would also be his demise. And how do we know all of this? Well, it was not Kazaik that met The Abyss that day. He was left to tell...

Is there a planetary settlement on every inhabited planet? [Question]

I spent a stupid amount of time looking for for a decent lush planet and I finally found the perfect paradise plant to start building on, and I thought it would be nice to oversee a settlement on the same planet,

This planet has two moons. I bought the settlement map and opened it on my planet, first one spawned on the caustic moon. Went there, was shit.

Got another map, tried again, spawned on the icebound moon. Went there, it was shit.

Got ANOTHER map, tried again, spawn on the toxic planet on the other side of the system.

Am I just Unlucky or is there just not a settlement on this planet? I’ve just bought another map so I’ll report back…

EDIT - it was a second settlement on the fucking toxic planet.

Why has the game not yet prompted me to find a Settlement? [Question]

I have seen numerous videos on starting a Settlement and they all start with a random broadcast you receive when you go to Outer Space. I have downloaded all the patches, yet for some reason the game refuses send me the broadcast.

So I decided to just go buy some Settlement maps, which I did. Every time I find a new Settlement I am never given the option to claim it. Even when I talk to all of the aliens on the Settlement, none of them prompt the speech that asks for my help in defending them from the drones.

I have been to 4 different Settlements now and I am confused. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

How to solve ship customization and end game economy at the same time, in one update [Discussion]

Ship customization is a super common request from players here, but many speculate Hello Games have resisted as it could potentially trivialize one of the biggest incentive to explore, and that's ship hunting. I wasn't in favor for ship customization because of this in the past. However... I was thinking that ship customization could potentially enhance NMS's end game, rather than harming it.

What if, in order to customize your ships you have to buy the parts blueprints for BILLIONS of units a piece, and have each shop that sells the blueprints scattered so players will have even more incentive to explore, in order to find these rare blueprint sellers.

How’s the performance on PC? I’ll list my specs [Question]

Hello, been following the game off and on since it’s release. Always been super impressed with the dedication the team have put in since then. And ofc there’s the famous Internet Historian video that really cemented my opinion of Hello Games. So with the latest update, thought I’d finally give it a try!

I’d ideally like to run it at 60FPS. Though I’d hate to use the lowest graphical settings, as it’s all about exploration from what I’ve gathered. So it might put me off a bit if I can’t make it look pretty.

My specs: Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Radeon RX580 24GB RAM

I feel like I have to use 30 lights per room in non-prefab buildings just to be able to see. Having a well lit room seems out of the question. What do ya'll do to have will lit rooms in these custom buildings? Do certain lights work better, is there a setting I can adjust?. Question about climate and storms [Question]

Hi folks, I recently stumbled upon 2 paradies planets which I considered ideal for my home. However, the climate of both planets are kinda irritating me.

The first planet's climate is described as "Deadly Pressure Variations" but it is a completely harmless planet, no storms, no nothing.

The second one is called "Harsh Poison Winds" written in red which afaik means that there are storms. The storms here do nothing but cool the Temperature down to -6 °C which does not even trigger my life support. It was the most tame storm I ever had.

Also both planets have this Anomaly warnings while sitting in my ship and I do not know why. Maybe because there are bubbles? Thats the only abnoral thing I could think of.

Whats up with these planets?

Since frontiers has released my freighter base has been absolutely destroyed. Rooms have been deleted, the upper levels are completely inaccessible, and unless its fixed my time was wasted. I can't even delete a part without having massive holes that drop you out of the freighter. Anyone else experiencing this? Xbox One S

I keep seeing the same types of ships land at my settlement. Does that mean there are only a set number of ships per system, or could you theoretically find any ship in any system? If there is only a set number of ships per system, do crashed ships also follow that rule, or are they completely different? Is there an easy way to see what ships can spawn in a system?

Can anyone else find Rocket Launcher modules? [Question]

So I unlocked the B class blueprint for the rocket launcher at the Anomaly, and since then I’ve been on the lookout for another upgrade module for it for almost 45 hours of playtime, but I’ve never another one. Ever. Is this the case for anyone else? Why is this?

I’ve upgraded my weapons on my fighter with almost all S class modules, except for the rocket launcher still hanging out with its measley 1 B class modification.

Flair Question/Rant/Discussion Whatever fits: Is anyone else irked about the settlement implementation? [Question]

During the week I barely have an hour free each day for gaming. The first thing I ask to build to improve the settlements production taking 1.5 hours per stage. In the meantime, they have debt racking up real time.

I really dislike this design approach. The programmers set a schedule the player has to keep (Return in X hours to start the next phase of building). Then provide punishment for not keeping the schedule (The settlement continues to add up debt whether you are online or not, and the villagers have no initiative to continue building on their own.)

Look, Hello Games, I have a life. I play games when I want to, not when you want me to. I'm sorry if that upsets you. That settlement will just have to stay in debt.

I realize that returning with supplies on a regular basis to kick off the next phase is suppose to simulate that we're actually doing something to help manage the village or something. But contrast that with the debt counter and it becomes something else.

I mean, my settlements debt has gone from 90K when I took it over to 300k+ and I haven't even completed their first farm yet, just because I can't set a schedule around "Log in to NMS in 2 hours, click next"

My First Experience at Expeditions [Thoughts on Expedition]

Get comfy its a long one

So I finally decided to do an expedition, oh my what an experience it was, mostly good. I love how it is all set up. Having to start over again was a real eye-opener on how the beginning of the game can be a struggle. Having 6 different phases to complete, each bringing its own challenge. Each phase had its frustrating moments.

The first phase for me was just trying to find your feet, getting the basics set up, walk 5000 units, take shelter in an alien building and cave, locate the ship and build your base. Most of these milestones were reasonable giving it's the first phase. I thought placing a base would be simple but with me doing this later than most people, I found trying to place the base computer anywhere fucking frustrating. I had to walk about 800 units from my ship in the worst weather (fuck). I then realize that I would have to track this back to the ship (ah fuck).

The second phase for me was alright ship upgrade, travel 1500 units in a storm, dig 1000 units, couple of base up grades, adopt a companion.

The third phase for me took the longest with all the scanning that had to be done, finding the four waypoints and extracting the minerals. On that note oh my fucking god the level of frustration on trying to get build at the location. Now I luck out only 600 units (or so) from my base. Time to build a path. Sweet fucking jesus this took so long the amount of times I ran out of ferite dust (internal screams). Oh then I needed to find COPPER on a planet that has limited copper.

The fourth phase was frustrating because of the minotaur. repair ship, visit outpost, airborne for 30 secs, get to 625 units high, add another teleporter, cross country 15000 by exocraft,dig up 10 bones and 5 buried items. Done the bones and buried items whilisht completing phase 2 and 3. found one of the many, many moutinans and got airborne...

The current state of No Man’s Sky [Discussion]

You can’t criticize this game at all with being downvoted to oblivion by people who think this game actually deserves a labor of love award. Those people fail to see that Hello games is a joke and NMS has been a big racket. They lied about what their game would be at launch and only add to it and update it now to advertise and sell the game that is still $60. Without updates, nobody would still pay the full price for an old game. The updates are quite small with limited content and improvements and most of us would’ve been happy to pay a reasonable price for them (there’s not much content in them so they’re not worth much) if they actually worked and the games launch itself wasn’t a smack across the face.

All these updates do is justify keeping the game at $60 and advertise it. They barely even test the updates at all. Each one breaks the game for way too many players for way too long. Tons of us still can’t even claim a settlement. Multiplayer is a joke and breaks saves. My duo and I were playing and his favorite ship that he can’t get anymore turned into mine permanently. Kept his stats and inventory but looks like mine. How does that even happen?

You can’t complain about this stuff without fanboys downvoting you like it’s not true but it is. 200hrs and you’ve already exhausted all the content the game has to offer. Performance gets consistently worse as time goes on and their proc gen gets changed.

Base terrain edits never save and bases get buried stupidly. They add all these new building parts that aren’t even snapping or working properly half the time. There’s no way these updates are getting tested by any sizable player base before being rolled out. I can guarantee that. I’ve never played a game that releases so many game breaking bugs each update. You’ll be hard pressed to find a comparable example.

Expedition bases? How do they work? [Question]

I've started and restarted the expedition a few times now and every time I do I find that where my ship has spawned is surrounded by purple markers for other people's bases. As a result I can't manipulate terrain there and bits and pieces of base pop into mid-air around me. Can I not build my base around my ship? Is the planet just too crowded? What the heck do I do? I see that there are multiple other bases all in the same tiny place.

What’s your favourite pass-time? [Question]

I’ve got about 60 hours logged on NMS so far, have more money and Nanites than I can spend; have completed the main ‘Artemis’ quest line; just finished Expedition 3; I’m running an S-Class settlement with 80% happiness and have a base that I physically can add nothing more to..

I only have one friend who plays this and their time zone is way different to mine - but other than repetitive Quicksilver missions, it’s not even like there’s much we can do together? I appreciate that the main purpose of NMS is exploration and finding what’s out there beyond the stars but that’s a hell of a lot more fun in a group.

I’m basically just asking for some tips or some ways to enjoy my time on the game without burning it out. I haven’t been this invested in a game in a long time (that 60 hours is over 12 days I should say…) and I really don’t want to get bored of it.

I wish we can use beds [Information]

Well, I keep looking at brilliant buildings, brilliant discoveries, brilliant achievements.

I think it's time to share with the opposite.

Usually my buildings look like shady schmucks, where wiring works somehow, not definitely as designed; to build each one I need to look up the manual over and over again; I constantly forget where I left last time and start over not to finish it ever.

My best selling strategy -- grow Gravitino and Pearl and sell. I can't remember what else do I need to grow to make that fancy expensive stuff; I only look for Activated Iridium since it's the fastest way to get rich. I don't like traveling somewhere to sell, so I sell everything where I found it.

I don't do pets. I have a dog IRL, I don't need same mess in the virtual.

I don't do driving those cars (like small, medium and big, I don't even remember how they called), controls are ... well, bring headaches.

I don't do freighters missions. My first and last was one brought by the update: I arrived at the lost freighter in space, text was saying something dangerous ahead, dark, cold... F..k it, I'm out. Too scared.

For the same reason I don't do missions, besides scanning and something where the mass shouting helps you get in, get thing and get out, leaving the heavy duty of the actual fight to someone else.

I'm playing since the day one, I've never made it to the center and I've got around 410K LY left.

I wish I can quit the overseer position, I'm a manager IRL, I don't need virtual idiots, I have plenty to manage already.

My ideal planet: dead airless rock, without those s...ty monochrome effects; where there's 200 units between C Electricity, C Activated Indium and C Oxygen.

A friend of mine told me, it's easy to get to the center, but I gave up after my fifth glory hole or whatever those things are called. D..mn, I lost my paradise, still searching for another one....

How do i talk to Atlas? [MAY CONTAIN SPOILER] [Spoiler]

Hi guys, i have a question but im not a native speaker so the translation of the game word may not be 100% acurrate, sorry bout that. Here's my question. I was doing the main quest of the game, where in the end you have the choice to "restart" the galaxy in a dialog with Atlas (it claims its dying and has only 16 seconds, etc) and i saw in somewhere that i lost part of my progression and get transportated to another galaxy when i do that. So i refused in order to finish some of my tasks, and then restart the galaxy later. Now i can't figure out how to talk to Atlas again to restart. Already tryied to follow the "Atlas Seed quest" but i reached a point where no Atlas structures shows to me anymore, just the icon "Talk to Atlas". Already tryied to talk to Polo as well but didnt work. I'd appreciate very much any help. Thx guys

I am a long-time explorer, playing since 2016 (with some breaks) and in the past year I explored a few regions-worth of systems/planets. When active I explore dozens of systems in a single session.

Wanted to share my extensive planet tier list. It is all subjective, but - wanted to compose a spec list like this.

Haunted Weather Paradise

Haunted Weather Paradise - Lush planets, which are super rare upgrade/variant of bubbly lush planet - in addition to being bubbly lush with luminescent grass and flora this type of planets have amazing extra feature - chromatic fog / chromatic weather effects - which make planet effective Extreme (bearing Activated resources instead of normal). But - those chromatic weather conditions (Clouds of Haunted Green or similar) adjust weather in those planets from safe temperature (40 C as an example) to safe (-7 C) temperature, making them effectively full paradise planets, with harmless fog, which, as additional value create amazing visual fog effects. Those planets have very distinguishable color palette which shifts drastically on sunrise/sunset due to chromatic atmosphere. I found only 1 like those - among thousands I visited. I know that other players found planets like those too.

Dashboarding [Information]

They've had so many patches/hotfixes since the release of frontiers and still to this day I am Having almost unplayable dashboarding on Xbox one. I can't do anything for longer than 20 mins without crashing. Anyone else having this issue still as of patch 3.67? All I wanna do is build My base without have to auto save every 10 mins ( Manual saves almost always dashboard my game ).

Bug may have caused a mission to be impossible [Bug]

I’m currently in “A Leap in the Dark”, one of the stages requires me to follow the sentinel signal to the next artifact, the problem being that the structure generated under the water and i cannot interact with anything since the objective seems to be inside a pilar of the structure. Is there anyway around this or am I doing something wrong?

How to expand base distance? [Question]

I'm trying to connect a electromagnetic hotspot to my activated indium hotspot - there is only about a 500u distance between the two. I have tried building my way there to extend the base limit pass 300u like you could in old in older version of the game (I last played in 2019). Is this not possible anymore?

Won’t upload save [Bug]

I play on Xbox and for some reason when I play this game it takes forever for the save to get uploaded.

Usually I like to play NMS before bed but if I have played the game earlier in the day downstairs the save is never uploaded.

Only happens with this game, every other game I can literally save and turn off the Xbox, wall upstairs and immediately start playing my latest save but with NMS it’s always a problem

Anyone else encounter this?? Any solutions?

Framerate is great! Until I "look" at my settlement from afar. [Information]

So when I'm IN my settlement, game is smooth.

When I leave my settlement, game is smooth.

When I leave my settlement, turn around, and look at my settlement in full, so that the whole thing is in my view from left to right, my framerate drops all the way down to like 45 FPS.

Is that a GPU struggle? Or a CPU struggle?

Dropping graphic detail settings helps, but makes the game look more bland.

ANyone else seeing that?

BTW - I'm using a RTX 3060 Ti mostly on Enhanced settings with some higher settings for a couple visual effects, as well as DLSS for AA.

Can't find any crashed ships [Question]

I'm trying to recover crashed ships, but have not found a single one in about 20 hours. Several dozen crashed freighters, which I dislike, but not a single ship from planetary maps, observatories, scanners or any of the usual.

Is this an expedition thing, have the updates changed anything, or am I really unlucky?

Does Hello Games have QA/UX testing? [Discussion]

I’ve been trying to think of a way to phrase this question that -doesn’t- sound super b*chy, but I’m not sure there is one.

I’ve had NMS on my radar for several years and have watched the reviews creep slowly upward, so I finally picked it up about a week ago on console and have been playing a LOT because what else am I doing, right? I’ve been genuinely enjoying the game and have been mostly pleasantly surprised by how much they were able to deliver on a “space pioneer” concept; honestly my expectations weren’t THAT high given the disastrous initial launch and the general reputation the game has in the outside world, and I know the dev team has been and continues to be super small (it’s almost weird how often they reference that in their support info and even their marketing, but maybe that’s something to point out on a different passive-aggressive reddit post ¯(ツ)/¯).

But the more I play, the more I keep wondering how some of these features could possibly reach production in the state they’re in. Sometimes it’s about great big bugs - a main questline loading issue that persisted past reset and irredeemably wiped out a 60+ hour save over here, an auto-pilot Pulse jump that spits me out in the MIDDLE of my frigate, slowly kills me, then won’t let me reach my “grave” for my fallen Storm Crystals after respawn over there. But other times it’s just an entire experience that doesn’t feel like anyone has actually tried to play it before sending it to market, like base building (God love you, folks out there making super cool bases for YouTube, you have achieved a level of patience and mental fortitude to which I can only aspire).

This post really isn’t about complaining (I’ll cop to a little bit of venting, but if I had a serious issue with a purchased product I wouldn’t take it to reddit), I’m actually curious about whether...

‘Alone amidst the stars’ not showing up after completing Expedition 3 [Question]

The title pretty much sums up the question. I’ve searched online for an answer and found something close here ( https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/nnmnka/alone_amidst_the_stars_not_showing_up/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf ), but there wasn’t a definitive answer after that expedition ended if he was able to access the quest once the expedition save converted to a normal save. Will I have to wait until the expedition closes or is there a workaround in the meantime? I played at launch on PS4 and then stopped after a year, just restarted on PC and wanted to use the expedition as the starting point.

Tamed a butterfly while living ship hunting yesterday and it can't lay eggs. [Bug]

At all. I was really hoping to change it from blue to pink and make it smaller. It's honestly a perfect specimen otherwise. However it says that it's reached it's max and can't lay anymore eggs. What type of group content do you enjoy? [Discussion]

A couple friends and I have decided to explore some new games together. NMS and Sea of Pirates appear to have the most interest. We tend to play majority of the time with three of us, periodically a fourth joins in. Personally, I know next to nothing about NMS other than mention that it’s similar to Valheim (which we loved!). I plan to catch up with some YouTube videos during my morning commute.

Is this a title we could progress in a world together? What type of content would we have to look forward to if we purchased NMS? What are some of your favorite things to do?

Extended Base... stopped working now I can't continue building [Question]

I had extended out to two hotspots, because you know, every &*#@Q^ hotspot is always going to be way way way far away from where your base is even if you place as close as you can to the center between everything, so as I've done in the past I simply extended the 500u to the spots. I ran out of ferrite, went to buy some, came back and now I can't build out beyond 300u anymore, at all. I've tried simply building new stuff to extend, game says nope, base out of range.

So is it just me or did they simply not rationally think through this whole hotspot thing, this whole "extend base" is janky and doesn't really work nor is reliable. I Just don't get it; why would you want me to make multiple "bases" just to mine some stuff?

I have no idea what to do and I'm pretty steamed off at the moment because all I need to do, is connect the pipes back, but you know, I can't because herpa derp game design?

I tried reloading the game, still won't let me.

I've already blown 16 to 18 hours on this base, not to mention the 4 damned hours it took nailing down hotspots. Really not in the mood as 90% of the gas hotspots on this lush planet are oxygen, it took me forever to find a nitrogen one and its C grade.

a weird thing that happened to me in the expedition [Discussion]

I was casually mining rocks on a cliffside, I found a big cluster and my mining tool was in overheat so I was blasting through the rocks pretty easy, and then all of a sudden, a rock I was mining grew 8 legs and knocked me off the mountain, it instantly destroyed my shields and hurt my health a bit in one blow!

luckily I had jetpack charge still so I took barely any fall damage but that was terrifying. I looked it up and all I've heard is of rocks growing legs and running away, anybody else have something similar happen to them?

either way, it was equally hilarious and terrifying. I'm glad I chose not to go VR a few minutes earlier when I hopped on lol.

Most of the dupe “glitches” I see are actually just abusing a broken system for saving inventories and the game. They are mechanics of the save system and not even glitches, it would be a simple fix but it still exists

Dreams from the Deep lost quest location [Question]

Hey, I started this quest, found the crashed ship and got the Nauliton Chamber recipe, but didn't know how to find the components, so I left the planets and did other things. Found out the compenents question are found in oceans and I could have done that easily. Went back to the planet and build the Chamber.

I assumed that when I built it, I'd get a marker pointing me back to where I needed to be and I could just fly over there and continue, but it's just telling me to go deeper. I have no clue where on the planet I was.

Is there any way to find it? Or did I just permanently mess up that quest?

Ok, I apologize beforehand if this has been asked a lot. I have finished my first large base completely made up of prefabs. One last step remains, getting the stupid doors to work.

I have watched roughly 6 YouTube videos on auto door setup and I can’t get it to work. I have tried every wiring setup I can think of.

Game crashed while I was in a group with randoms. How do I rejoin? [Question]

I'm on PS4 and was in a group with two randoms who were on Steam. We have added each other as NMS friends but that's it. I have no way of contacting them, [already tried searching for their nicks on Steam, but too many similar nicks] and when I go on the Network menu, the only option the game gives is to remove them from my NMS Friends list... I've had this game for a while but didn't play it. Recently I decided to finally give it a try. It seemed fun and relaxing, but eventually I got to a point where it just felt like a grind and all I wanted to do was go explore. I was going to give up because it just seemed like "What's the point." Double doorways on snap [Bug]

Not 100% that this is a bug, but if it's intended.... then it's incredibly stupid. Anyone else encounter the issue where you connect two pieces of corridor and they each create doorway caps on the connection points instead of smoothing out?

I swear it used to have it act visually as one long piece instead of creating very obvious connection points.

Buddy just started game… Now can’t find his ship… [Question]

I’m at 240hrs in, and haven’t started a fresh play through, so I’m having a hard time helping him out. I’ve forgotten so much of the early game by now.

He claims he’s at the part where you need to repair your ship (before a scanner is ever m even installed), then he fucked around and got lost and can’t find his way back. Claims he has nothing on the HUD, which makes sense since he doesn’t have a scanner yet.

I met up with him and tried to fly around to find his ship but I’m not even sure if I’d be able see it since it’s part of his starting mission. I did find a random crashed ship that I help him repair so he could at least fly around to look, but it’s clear his game is kind broken until he gets through these milestones.

Any tips that I can pass along to help him out?

p.s. If I build him a portal, could he go to the space station, and delete his new salvaged ship, would his 1st ship appear at the station?

How do you calculate the angular distance from geographical coordinates? [Question]

I'm trying to find the equator of my planet. I've managed to find the poles, where the altitude of the sun is constant throughout the day. But my spherical geometry skills are somewhat non-existent, and I have no idea how to calculate the equation for the equator from the coordinates of the poles.

Also: are there seasons in the game? Will the daily path of the sun change at a given geographical location?

Possible Expedition Bug with Blueprints? [Question]

The day before yesterday I was playing, doing the latest expedition. I have my little base dug into the side of a mountain, finally got my ship all repaired, get my ship over to my base, decide I need to unlock the landing pad and build one, but suddenly I'm missing like all of my available tech options from my construction research unit. Before I had a whole range of different stuff, like all of the energy related stuff, all of the landing pads and vehicle pads, and everything else. I just had to spend the salvage to unlock them, but now all of that is gone and I just have the different building types and a basic set of tech. Is this bugged, or was it bugged before?

Does anyone else feel like this game needs more camera options? [Discussion]

As good as this game looks, I feel like a big thing it's missing is accessibility options for the camera.

For example, at the moment, there's no way of turning off camera shakes and head bob without mods, when those options should be available by default, since a lot of people hate these things (motion sickness, etc). Mods of the sort are incredibly easy to create, but they still won't be available to console players.

There's also no means of changing camera distance in 3rd person. But that's probably harder to implement.

main story mission are not very well thought [Discussion]

its basically a giant tutorial which you need several gaming sesions to finish. players get border and basically learn how to do stuff before the main mission tells you, people is not going to wait hours of boring dialogue to have the "go to the anomaly, there you can buy stuff for your exosuit" like, we have already been doing that for the past week

Base Inside of Planet [Bug]

I recently came back to NMS to find that one of my bases is beneath the core of the planet. Is there any way I can delete this base when I cannot access the base computer?

I've tried teleporting to it and digging down but because it's below the editable terrain, I just end up on the surface, about a few hundred U's above it and can't dig any deeper. I also had two other bases on the planet that were also impacted but I was able to reach the computers to delete those bases.

Confusion RE: Expeditions [Question]

I keep getting conflicting info from Twitter and YouTube, so I wanted to try here.

My understanding of the Expedition mode is this:

  • You must start a new Expedition game file to participate in the Expedition event

  • Once you complete the Expedition, you get some sort of reward

  • Also, your Expedition save file will automatically be converted into a normal save file once you've completed the Expedition

Ok...here is where my confusion comes into play. It is my understanding that participating in any future Expedition events would require starting a new save file, but I've also had people tell me that any rewards you earn during an Expedition are locked into that specific file and you will not have access to them otherwise.

This doesn't make any sense to me considering that since there is a limit to how many save files you can have, you'd eventually be forced into deleting some of them if you wanted to keep participating in future Expeditions which, in turn, would mean permanently losing those rewards IF they're locked to the specific save file you earned them in.

And that is why I feel like I'm being misled. It just doesn't make sense to offer a new game mode with rewards you can earn, but then forcing players to eventually chose between either losing those rewards or not participating in future Expeditions.

Can I get some clarification here?

I m a new player starting on permadeath, don’t know why but pd was so interesting, because it really feels you are in danger and being a new player, feels like a real discovery game. Crashing Save [Bug]

I was trying to build a base mid air, not anywhere close out the planet atmosphere (Still under clouds). However, I was building walls making my way up and built floors to stand on so I could continue building higher. Eventually at a certain height my game crashed and I lost all build progress so I attempted to rebuild again, and crashed again... Tried again, but this time saved my progress and uploaded the base.. I guess I saved in the same position I was crashing, but does anyone know why this is happening? I’m on PC, and yes I can fix my crashed save myself but now I’m upset cause I can’t build high as I wanted. I’ve never had any other persistent issues with NMS besides this. Is building high limits patched? My base computer is on ground and I don’t think I built higher than 300 units. I was maybe 40 walls high I could reach before I crash.

I am not sure if this is well known, I haven't seen this tip anywhere and I found out about it purely by accident:

If you trade your ship for another, previous owner will move to your former ship - you can talk to him again, and now you can claim your old ship back for free. Repeat several times with everything that lands on station, scrap what you don't want to keep, and you have lot of credits, nanites and even ships storage upgrades in a few minutes.

I am sure there are ways to make even more credits, but this works right from the start with zero preparation, unlike cobalt market crashing or building massive farms - all you need to do is repair your first ship and get to the station. Tbh to me this feels like cheating, so I didn't abuse it in my first playthrough... but it is nice to have options, right? :)

Starting the game, can't find a Minor Settlement [Question]

Hi guys,

Discovered the game this week, what a blast!!

When i started to realise this game was HUGE, i thought i could use a little guide.

But i've been blocked for several hours, in phase 2, find a minor settlement.

I've crawled my planet for 2 hours looking for one in vain, found several types of buildings and many ressources but nothing like "minor settlement" https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Minor_Settlement

I left the planet to continue the main mission and went to the space station after having destroyed my base. But i feel like i won't be able to follow the guide anymore, too sad, i know the fun is also in experimentation and discoveries on your own but, i love guides T.T

Do you have any tricks to find one? I got a map from a cartographer but it says it will lead me to an abandonned ship :s

Problems you say? [Question]

Having serious issues with building parts not snapping together, and sometime parts that are placed don't register as being a building part until I restart the game.

Lost my exotic. Please help. [Bug]

So my friend was parking his starship at my base and I had him call it to where he was and he confirmed that his ship landed by him but it wouldn't disappear from my launch pad however the ship said the name of my ship but when I got into it it has now permanently changed to his stupid ugly squid ship. Does anyone have A PS4 save world if world with the other exotic type ship because I lost mine and I loved that ship and I would be eternally grateful if you helped me out

Why are all the settlements claimed? [Question]

All settlements I go to are already claimed, The mission says I need to go to the terminal in the middle of the town but when I access it is always claimed. I have already tried 20-ish settlements.

Question regarding scrapping ships [Question]

I've been playing for a week and have claimed two abandoned ships as my own. I found the scrapping option in space stations, but I can only fly there in one ship and only have the option to scrap the ship I flew there with.

Will this leave me stranded on the station? How do I scrap the older ships that I'm no longer using?

How to kill a big ship thingy (yes, detailed..) [Question]

Hi, new player & figuring things out.. bear with me because I may be calling stuff the wrong names > yesterday I entered a system & approached some dormant AI frigates, intending to buy 1 or 2 so I can add them to my new main big ship thingy (flagship? Idk) where I can command them to go on missions & get stuff (literally got that yesterday too hence the vague name-calling).

So at a point I get a hostile warning, battle a few waves of smaller fighters - ok dealt with them - but then a big boy spawned in with gun turrets either side (maybe 6 or 7 per side). I eventually took out the turrets & it was left there beeping away feeling sorry for itself but there was no entrance to the ship to land & invade & no obvious way on how to completely destroy it.

So.. what am I supposed to do with it? Again, sorry for the vagueness I have no idea what most of the ship classes are called.

Inventory management [Question]

So I haven’t played for a while (PS4) but after a few huge downloads I tried again. I’ve always thought the inventory management was a janky hot mess and it doesn’t appear to have gotten better with all the updates. But maybe it’s the way I’m playing? Am I right in thinking that you can build all these amazing devices and machines and travel throughout the universe but you can’t see what the hell is in your inventory at a glance?

Key binds show exclamation mark [Question]

I am playing on VR using reverb G2, and some actions show exclamation mark as their binding in the UI. Like on the Galaxy map and also inside the ship. Any way I can correct that? The game is new to me and I get lost without knowing what buttons to press.

Quest stuck on screen [Bug]

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this.

I now permenantly have this "the settlers" quest stuck on the lower right hand side of my screen, switching quests does not make it go away and it does not disappear over time.

The quest also no longer tells me how long building have left to construct.

It's not stopping me from playing the game and I have reported it to hello games it's just really annoying.

Does anyone potentially have a temp fix or have other people experienced this?

Any advice on how I get a settlement on this moon? [Question]

I have been searching and searching since Frontiers dropped to find the perfect place to start a settlement and get into the new content and make a new base with all the new parts. I am pretty fussy about it, but I finally found a gorgeous lush moon that is perfect. It's even bisected by its planet's ring!

It's not abandoned or unoccupied, but for the life of me I cannot get a settlement chart to spawn a settlement here. Every time, I get "location interference" while I am on the moon. If I try repeatedly, it either consumes the chart with nothing, or it sends me a location on one of the other planets in the system. I have burned through a lotta charts. Found three settlements elsewhere in the system. Not interested in those.

Worth noting that the planet the moon orbits is a lifeless one with no buildings (but the moon has all that!).

Anyone got any ideas? Do I keep trying or can't this moon spawn what I want?

Why HG why do you not let us have more pets and more storagespace for more ships? [Question]

I dont understand this at all. I Always find animals and ships i want but i will not switch out my amazing collection, i only want more!

This makes me stop playing , because why explore if i cant take those things with me? WHY HG WHY?

Another question , Im on PS5 and Im not able to join other added friends in game. Everyone can join me, but not the other way around even tho Im connected to your servers. There is alot of fixing by HG that needs attention before i can keep enjoying this beautiful game.

My game loves the terrain manipulator. A bit too much. And it causes problems. [Question]

I'm not sure how or why, but it seems like quite frequently, my weapon has the terrain manipulator selected, even though I recently use one of the actual weapons of the multitool. This wouldn't be a problem if the game also wasn't trying to constantly remind me about how to use the manipulator, which in turn blocks me from pressing left on the dpad (xbox) to bring up the current selected mission in the corner of the screen to see how much time is left on my settlement building or something. Which also wouldn't be much of a problem, if the game let you change modules in flight, in a station, or in the anomaly. I can dismantle the manipulator or get another multitool, but does anyone know why it keeps selecting the manipulator and if I can change the "default" module?

Community Expedition and Geforce Now / Steam Cloud [Bug]

I was on the road when Frontiers dropped, so I reactivated Geforce Now so I could check it out. I played a bit of my main save and started a new one for the expedition.

Basically, the main save syncs just fine on GFN, and I can pick it up and resume again on the PC at home with cloud syncing, and it works in both directions... but the community expedition sync I created in GFN never appears on the PC.

I'm not sure whether it only syncs saves that exist already on the local device, and doesn't add new ones, or whether there's some specific glitch with cloud saves and the community expedition. I even tried nuking all of my local saves on the PC to force the re-download, and they all come down except the community expedition one I created on GFN.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Keep playing or restart? [Question]

I’ve decided to start playing the game again since the new update came out. I played from release for about 80 hours and then played another 30 ish hours after the next few updates came out. The last update I remember was before which ever update brought the social space in the anomaly (I just remember it being 1 small room). Is it a good idea for me to continue playing on my very old save or just to restart? I don’t want to waste all my hours but would wasting my hours be worth the new experience since all the new updates?

Story time from the expedition. [Discussion]

I should have taken some screenshots or a gif, but regardless.

I played NMS on release, then dropped it and picked it up in Next. Now is the third time I'm picking it up and also the first time I notice the awesome community, because last time most I could do was coop and that after going through hoops.

I launch the game, see a flashy Expeditions tab and of course I click on it. Didn't read up, didn't know what to expect and this post is not about that despite the title.

So I'm in, doing my stuff and I have managed to set up a base and gather the things I need to fix part of my ship and complete the first stage. On my way back, I see someone else's base and curious idiot that I am, I decide to check it out and get in. Mistake number one. Now I couldn't get out because the ground had regenerated and I didn't fit through the door. How I managed to fit to get in effortlessly, I have no idea. But I was stuck.

'Whelp. Am stuck.' I sent to the chat, not knowing if it was localised or server wide, not even sure if it was a proper chat since all I saw until then was people's achievements. And to my surprise people started talking. Then I see a save point flush to a wall so I had the terrible idea to use it and relog to see if it would spawn me outside the building. It didn't.

A group of people from the chat came over to the place I was stuck. They wanted to kill me to see if I'd respawn outside. They couldn't shoot me through the door though but somehow, some way, one of them dropped some Sentinels on me. They shot me, they killed me, I died. I spawn back inside the building. At this point, I had given up, half a mind to restart the expedition and lose 3h of progress.

But then, one of them had a brilliant idea. He rode his pilgrim and started running into the wall on my back. After a few tries, he managed to push me out of the building by clipping into it. Collision...

Props for fixing a long standing issue [Discussion]

There has been quite a bit of talk around the state of Frontiers release as it hasn't been the smoothest or most popular update. While I think constructive criticism is always welcome,and have shared plenty myself, I don't think we can forget to be thankful and give credit where credit is due. Trouble landing in certain areas has been an issue for a long time and one of my most annoying bugs. It has been in several updates and patches over time so you know they were racking their brains trying to figure it out. Since the update I have had no issues and I would like to say congrats and thank you for finally being able to get that fixed.

Egg Sequencer: Growth Hormone in 3.67 [Question]

Has anyone tried sequencing an egg to decrease creature size in the new update? None of the materials i have tried that traditionally decreases size seem to be working today. Everything just Increases size.

BUT it may be the sort of creature i am trying to modify: the Shiny bit of light from Glitch Biome: Fungal Planets.

best unit's per second with star ship? [Discussion]

Im sitting at 21,000 u/s in space and 1675 u/s in the atmosphere. I know its fast but just how fast? Before i removed one of my upgrades i had it at 25,000 u/s in space and 2013 u/s in the atmosphere but i had to sacrifice shields which i didnt care for. Notepads [Suggestion]

Playing now for about two weeks and 100hours. Definitely obsessed. One huge missing component that I think would be incredibly helpful are in-game notepads. As a little toggle in the the discoveries page. So you could add notes to the systems you’d like to. Like (2 animals left on New Arzawa) and it would show up next to the system as a pencil or something so you know which ones have notes on em to go back to. I know you could do this on paper and I have a bit. But god it would be so convenient

help with a leap in the dark [Question]

Im on the section where you collect glyphs. My issue is that the second glyph showed up on one of those water structures where you get trident keys. When I get close, the objective market is inside the foundation of the building. I have tried digging underneath, reloading the save and any other simple fixes. Am I missing something or is it bugged? Sorry, I'm an utter noob

Quick Bind keeps changing to "Select other ship" when I open the game [Bug]

I'm new and I don't know if this is a frontier bug or something im doing wrong so I'll try asking it here:

Whenever I open up the game again after quitting, all my quick binds select "Select other ship" under vehicles for some reason. I assign 1 to recharge life support, 2 to the recharging menu and 3 to summon my ship but whenever I open up the game again all my keys change to select other ship.

There isn't even numbers next to the button. Like my life support has a little "1" on the top left corner but the select other ship doesn't have that. It doesn't even change the numbers but it still selects the other ship thing anyway.

S-Freighter maxed at 42? [Question]

Hi All,

I've had my S-Class Freighter for a while now and always thought they were maxed out at 42 Storage +14 Technology; but recently I saw a Screenshot of a Freighter with 48+21.

I have Salvaged Freighter Modules, but when I go to the Terminal to “Add Additional Storage” it’s greyed out?!? Is my Freighter Bugged? Or what could cause this?

Another curiosity on this Character is that I have two Life Support Systems and can’t get destroy the unnecessary one.

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Stranded. Send Help! [Question]

Hey guys. I just started NMS yesterday and love it so far, but I’ve found myself in a sticky situation.

Basically after leaving the first planet, rather than following the radio signal to the next planet, I thought I’d do a little free roaming and see what happened. After cruising around for a while and mining a few asteroids, I landed on a planet that’s almost entirely water with a few small islands that are very bare.

I then realised I didn’t have enough launch fuel to take off again…

I was able to work out how to use the portable refiner and some kelp sacs from the ocean how to make oxygen, just in time to recharge my life support. However when it comes to launch fuel, I need di-hydrogen, and the only places to mine that from are large underwater crystals that require an upgraded mining laser to mine. The smaller crystals only contain salt.

I used the scanner to identify any nearby sources, but for some reason that doesn’t actually highlight anything at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Coming back and so overwhelmed [Question]

I only had about 20 hours on before I took a long hiatus. Downloaded it again last night after seeing the updates and positive reaction from the community, so I decided to start fresh.

Am I alone in feeling incredibly overwhelmed/confused when starting? I log in, start the first mission, and it's like there's so much going on. The screen has so many things, I have notifications/tips popping up, something saying access my galaxy map, something popping up saying someone's trying to reach me and press X, press F and start scanning, drones trying to attack me, hostile envrionment wearing me down, open my quest log and somehow I just started and have like 4 main missions to do and like 6 side missions.......it just seems like too much and I find myself just freezing up and logging out after about 10 minutes.

Any tips for a newbie to help stay "on track"? Doesn't help I have ADD I guess lol.

Do I need to start a new save to get settlements in my game? [Question]

Hey everyone. I originally got the game at launch and put 40 or so hours into it, didn't reach the center, had a great time and put it down.

I got back into it like 3 weeks ago, have a good 30 or so hours into my save, have a decent ship, a decent freighter, useful base, and a good amount of progress into the story, but have yet to run into a settlement on my travels.

Do I need to start fresh to experience this? Or does it "kick in" the further into the galaxy I travel? It's my first time experiencing a super major update, after having an existing save, so I'm not quite sure how this works.

How do I power timber bases? [Question]

I need lighting for my timber base, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get power. For example, ceiling lights placed around the base do not light up. I have glass cubes with batteries snapped in, so I can supply power to the timber base anywhere, but I don't see any snap-on for that.

Inventory disappeared [Bug]

Hi, so I just bought the game yesterday and now out of nowhere my suit is completely empty, my ship and freighter still have the items which were stored there, but everything in my backpack is just gone, what happened?

Btw. it's just the main storage in the suit, the technology and freight are still there too

Fleet Showcase - To Live Forever [Screenshot]

Completed achievement today. Just over 36 hours played to achieve. Had a very lucky starting planet with lots of caves to shelter.

Found a cool Multi (shown), a couple of cool fighters, & a Squid!

Journeyed to center without portals. Lots of black holes.

The shuttle was my sacrificial ship to transit dimensions, the ship only needs the three hyperdrive augments (Red/Green/Blue) and a full hyperdrive, so I just bought a cheapy ship.

Best of luck everyone. Was super fun and a bit tense a few moments!

Need help with my factory. What am I doing wrong? [Question]

Hey guys thanks for dropping by.

I have made an extensive farm on one of my planets and I’m aiming to expand a little but I’m coming across a weird bug with my farm.

I’ve taken to stacking my machines upwards and put my mineral extractors on top of each other.

I did this in a single upwards line. Once a tower was built I then placed a supply depot on top. Once completed I then supply pipe upwards from the bottom and into that single supply depot. I then connect this single one to a nearby group of 12. To be clear I only connect a single tower to one of 4 supplies.

This is where it gets weird. If you check the stacks out they are making mixed amounts however as I run the line across I’m finding that the stacks are starting to mix with eachother despite not being connected.

Once I move a line from the 2nd bunch they all mix and give me a combined amount despite al being seperate you connected.

Is this a bug or is it intended?

Anyone not able to play with their friends after the latest update? [Bug]

So on Wednesday night I was playing with two my friends and we no trouble. Then yesterday and today I'm unable to connect to them and they're unable to connect to me. It keeps saying that I'm joining the lobby and then connecting and then the connecting banner just disappears and nothing happens.

I've restarted my PC, restarted router, changed Ethernet cables, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Nothing has worked.

controller mapping broken on Pc? [Bug]

Let me start by saying save the whole KB/m vs controller bs for someone who actually cares, those replies will be ignored.

Haven't played in a few months and wanted to hop on to see the new town/outpost system and noticed the controls are all messed up. For example for tabing through the menues instead of lb an rb now it's b and lb and the lb is where rb should be. The start button no longer does anything at all. The b button also walks left for some reason. A zooms in with weapon. X opens deployment menu. Y does nothing. Left trigger is jet pack and right trigger swaps weapons/tools. The only option in the settings to remap controller is through steam's controller config but in that menu it shows that all the controls are correct on steam's side it's just in this game that they are broken.

After 100s of hours I’ve made a huge mistake starting my first VR and first permadeath game [Discussion]

Now I’m hooked by on TWO separate characters. I just thought the Perma thing would be a good way to futz around while I tried the novelty of the game on PC VR. But now I can never decide which character to play!

I had to adjust the controls on steamVR because they made some questionable choices but other than that I’m really enjoying VR much more than I thought I would.

Xbox one: Constant updates, unsure on what they are [Question]

Seems like the game is getting more unstable, not less.

Consistently crashing at what seems like increments in which I haven't saved for 20-30 minutes. I have a save beacon on me at all times and have to use it constantly.

It really kills the gameplay. Please just make the game stable so we can go on to bigger and better things 😁

Lost newly claimed ship [Question]

Hello! I just claimed a crashed ship and before I was able to repair it I left the area and cannot find it again. I cannot summon the ship to me as it is not fully repaired. How do I find the ship or remove it? Thank you!

Mineral extractors stop mining after I close the game PS4 [Bug]

Hello! I'm encountering an issue.

I have a decent activated indium farm powered by the infinite generators, all the pipes and stuff are lined up right. The whole set up, works.

However whenever I close the game, and open it 24 hours later, it goes from saying 12 hours to fill, to 11, to 10 etc.

It seems to stop/only progress by one hour whenever I stop playing, anyone else encounter this?

Questions about S-Class Ship Hunting [Question]

Greetings.

Firstly I'd like to preface this by saying that I'm possibly just very confused as to how the game generates S-Class ships in the first place.

Regardless, I was recently looking for a new S-Class Fighter in a T3 Vykeen system. I was down at a Trading Post spamming save reload, as is the custom, when one finally shows up. It didn't tickle my fancy so I let it go. Shortly after, the same ship shows up again but as a B-Class (it had the same name at least).

So if I kept waiting whould it show up again as an S-Class? Or do you only get that one chance to grab it before it becomes permanently downgraded?

Can't build settlement building? [Question]

I just started playing after not touching the game since August 2016, and I'm upset I waited so long. I've had so many holy shit moments, and I finally found my first paradise planet and got a settlement on it!

I constructed the Overseer building, made a decision on a Dwelling Unit, but there's no terminal or options for me to build it.. am I missing something? I've checked everything on the settlement :(

Possible 'Missing Deserter' mission bug - anyone else run into this? [Bug]

Hey everyone! I'm a brand new player to the game and I think I ran into a (potentially) progress halting bug.

So I'm doing the Artemis quest line and I had to raise my Vy'keen standing before continuing. I picked a mission called "Missing Deserter", where you have to find a missing person and persuade them to return home. Easy enough.

I got to the place, I saw a crashed ship, and got pretty excited. I checked it out, saw it was better than my crappy starter one, so I claimed it. After I claimed the ship the mission updated and read "Missing person found - persuade them to return home" or something along those lines. The problem is the quest marker is literally on the ship - there's no NPC or anything around me. Nothing happens when I get in the ship except for it yelling at me to fix it.

I can probably get back to the Space Station and pick another mission, but this is pretty annoying. Am I doing something wrong? I tried saving, closing the game and coming back but still the same thing is happening.

Recruit an Overseer quest trigger [Question]

Hi all. I've been plodding through the Atlas line and progressed base building to the point where I'm getting blueprints every 6 hours, but from what I've seen I feel like I'm supposed to have a quest to recruit an overseer to unlock more.

Can anyone give me a steer? Is that actually a thing and is there a trigger?

I'm not taking about the settlement quests though, I might have misunderstood what I've read.

Is there much of a reason to fly around in space without pulse jumping? [Question]

Full disclosure that I haven't played the game since launch and have no idea what it's like now. So far I'm loving the updates but something I remember disappointing me back then was there wasn't much of a reason to take your time flying around. You either had waypoints to show you where everything was or you could see it clearly in the distance like a planet, so pulse jumping was pretty much the only sensible way to get around unless you needed to mine asteroids.

Has this changed at all? Will I encounter events out in space I wouldn't if I was pulse jumping? Or is it still kinda pointless to just fly around exploring space like you would wandering around a planet?

Please Help me get into No Man's Sky [Question]

I've had this game for a few years now. Couldn't ever really get into it, starting over a couple of times and never getting too far. Now I'm trying it again and I'm really trying to have fun but it's rather frustrating.

Watching Trailers or Youtube videos about the game gets me incredibly hyped, I want to explore lush planets, tame interesting creatures, build huge bases, buy freighters, grow crops, make mines and get rich. But when I actually play the game it's mostly farting around on ugly stone, ice or acid planets, either trying to find my own fun or following the story, which doesn't really interest me but is needed for progression. It doesn't help that the controls and inventory feel clunky a lot of the time.

So far, I never really felt comfortable or "in the zone". Micromanaging my inventory and constantly recharging things is annoying. I really want to upgrade my multitool, ship, and other things but I feel like I'm still really far away from that. What am I doing wrong, where does the fun begin? I really want to like this game but so far it hasn't really clicked.

Are there any tips you can give? Most Youtube Videos are just 'get rich quick by using an exploit', but I don't want that. I just want to have fun, build and explore on my own terms but without the frustration and tedium. What can I do?

No Man's Sky Frontiers review (fans are NOT going to like it) [Discussion]

I've been playing NMS on and off since launch, it's one of a handfull of games I actually pre-ordered for no other reason than I'm a dyed in the wool explorer.

I usually play for a while once a big update comes along and then get bored when it invariably turns out to be more of the same old thing.

However, of all the updates, I gotta say this new one is the most over-hyped and disappointing thing I might have ever seen in any video game. It seriously reminds me of Farm Town, you know, those old timed Facebook games where you plant something then wait an hour, harvest then do it again. Same thing here, start a building, go gather the resources, wait 20 minute or an hour or two hours then give it more resources, rinse, repeat. I thought things would be different once I got it out of debt but nope. Maybe some missions from my residents, nope. One of them said, "Do you have credits?"

I admit I've only been working this settlement for a few days, am I missing something?

Newish player just doing my first distress beacon, am I missing something or is it normal to make no money off it? [Question]

I completed the entire map, fought plenty of bugs, and after all of that got some slime and some data logs which I then turned into tarnished metal. I barely made a fraction of a percent on what I spent on it in profit and wasted endless supplies in doing so.

I've read about people making millions on it, did I do something wrong, do the rewards change up, or is there more to it than I realize?

My Expedition save has become an "INCOMPATIBLE SAVE" [Question]

The other saves seem to be fine. I have made sure all of the latest patches are installed. I have verified Steam file integrity. I searched this subreddit and the Steam forums for answers--the only thing I found was a suggestion to use the save editor to change something, but they didn't say what to change. And, I've never used the save editor. I'm worried I'll just make it worse. I really don't want to lose this save. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Does anyone know when HG changed the classes available on crashed ships? [Question]

Tried to search for it myself but couldn't find anything in any patch notes or in the sub here. I know all ships used to spawn as all classes, but that changed at some point and I'm curious when that was, mostly because I'm also curious what their reasoning was for the change if they ever mentioned it anywhere.

Need help taxiing to Hyades (#5) [Question]

Hi!, I'm an xbox player, I have been putt-putting around Euclid for about a year now, and after my first traversal to the Hilbert Dimension, I did not realize that all of my everything would be broken. I had to reload an autosave to get everything back.

I would be over the many moons if there was a kind xbox soul out there, stationed in Hyades, to help me get over there with everything intact. I heard there's a way we can do this by me simply joining your game through the main menu? Correct me if I'm wrong, I only recently learned of this method and may be misunderstanding.

Taming insects - am I doing something wrong? [Discussion]

So, recently found a planet with a cool animal that I wanted to tame, but when I finally caught up to it, I didn't get the prompt to feed it pellets. I also tried throwing pellets at or nearby the creature, but due to the steep terrain, most of them rolled off into the water or landed far from the creature.

When I checked the scan log, it says that the thing is an insect. Can you not tame insects? Am I not throwing the pellets close enough? Looking for some answers here.

Help with Base Computer Archives glitch [Question]

I'm a fresh new player of 3 hours, and this game is painfully buggy so far. Besides losing a chunk of resources I put in a portable refiner randomly despite not warping (or even having the capability to) or even moving away at all, now I'm stuck in progress because my only quest requires me to build a base, but I just can't extract the archives from my base computer to get the blueprints.

I initially only placed one, and I only get the options Capture New Base Screenshot, Upload Unavailable, Delete Base, and Leave. I tried reopening the game, but it didn't make the archives option available either. At that point, I also didn't have the quest to search for archives in my log. Then I deleted it and made another, and still didn't get the quest even after another game reopen, and it still doesn't work. Pls help

I haven't actually encountered the Indium/Cadmil/Emeril events before only gotten activated of those materials from expeditions. Steam VR Controls Remapping [Question]

I remapped a few controls to make them more intuitive with my oculus controllers. Using Oculus CV1.

I remapped the joy sticks to control my ship as well, the thruster controls work and I can control my speed with my left joystick, but the right joystick set to control my steering simply doesn’t work at all.

Anyone have experience with this and can help?

Base building range reduced? [Information]

It seems they may have changed what i suppose is a glitch, but when you extend your base slightly by placing a gen. I think it is stuck at just the range of the base computer now. I am no longer able to build on any of my farms either farm side, or power plant side depending where i put the computer. I get that if it was a glitch it is fine to fix, but i would atleast have liked them to up the chances of finding a power zone near a deposit zone. i have never found power within range of one of my deposits. I can still collect from my stuff just can’t expand. very unfortunate, and waste of countless hours.

I found a destroyed ship in the start of the game, I have started repairing it in order to sell it, I have fixed everything except the activated copper part

The space map shows that the closest planet with it is like 20+ systems away

Main questline bugged? [Question]

I am playing through the main quest after setting up a decent base and settlement. However, I may have hit a bug. I am supposed to talk to a Vy'Keen being at a ruin, get a key, and open a chest or three. This is not working.

So far I have looted all three chests, received only treasure, flow to the farthest reaches of the galaxy and reset it, come back, done it again, same result, reset it again, and now the creature which looks like mercury will not even speak to me. When this occurred I was highly frustrated. I backed up my save, used an editor to give myself the tablet, and loaded in. The game ignores the fact that I have the tablet and simply points me to the ruin.

As such, I restored my old save and am assuming I cannot complete the game. Is there a hidden console or something I can use to advance the mission? I want to start learning glyphs and have found one traveller in about eighteen space stations, so I am becoming aggravated that I cannot progress or at least play with the portals.

Anyone else having trouble closing out there fauna searches??? [Question]

They buffed the nanites you get for finding all the fauna. But ever since I just cannot seem to complete the search.

On four planets now I get to the last one animal and cannot find it. It's always under water. On 3/4 of the planets it's even a common in the bio.

Really annoyed at this cos I have about 10 000 nanites that I just cannot get. Also feel like I have wasted soooooo much time 😣

Q about INDUSTRIAL SURVEYING mission. [Question]

I'm doing this mission and I found a hotspots for gas, power & mineral. I tagged the first one, but as soon as I tagged the next one (gas) the first tag disappeared.

I thought these were different then the normal tags you can put down, where you can only have 1.

So I have 2 questions.

How do I tag multiple survey sites, if its possible?

The mission just disappeared from my log.

This can't be all there is. Is this really the end of the mission?

I can't place any of the mining equipment, so something has to be wrong.

Newbie with a specific question about warp [Question]

I went on a mission to another system, and accidently used up my last Warp Cell. There were no outposts or anything I could find that would have allowed me to get back to my own system. My refiner is in my base, so there was no way I could make another cell.

Did I lose myself in space? Was there anything I could have done to get back to civilization? I reverted to a saved game, but the question still stands.

So are they looking at settlements and building placement? Because every settlement I've tried has run into the wall that is bad building placement. [Question]

I have settlements that have buildings spawning under bedrock, buildings not spawning at all, buildings spawning ontop of buildings making them inaccessible, etc.

Are they finding solutions to this? Will these settlements ever be useable? I've wasted so many resources for basically nothing.

Completed Exp 3 and it will not complete [Bug]

Hello,

I have completed Exp 3. I collected all the rewards, etc. The exp will not complete though. I collected the last reward, hatched it, and now the last reward says cannot collect. Cannot carry any more eggs. The last check box in the log for the exp will not check off. So, I have not been able to save my exp game save as a normal game save. Is this a known issue? Is there a solution? I have not found anything on my search. Please help. Thanks.

Frontiers Woes [Question]

I play No Mans Sky on Xbox one. Before frontiers I was playing glitch/crash/dashboard free. Ever since the frontiers update, and several patches/hotfixes later I'm still crashing/dashboarding. Anyone else on Xbox one having crashing/dashboarding issues after patch 3.67? I have cleared my cache, turned off multiplayer, and re-downloaded the game all of which sos not change the crashing/dashboarding. Any suggestions on what I can do to alieviate these issues? Of am I basically stuck until HG finally patches it? Thanks for any answers

A Story of NMS Mercy [Screenshot]

I had just recently finished my Expedition 3 save and decided to start again (y'know, for the 3rd time, because this game is so fun). I heard about it being really easy to get a free freighter and so I quickly set out to find that perfect Resurgent Class. Several jumps and skipped freighters after, I found one I really liked and starting making a go at that great S class. Every freighter I found before that I used to get farther into space to find more had always been free and I always took payment, never thinking anything of it. After some searching, I found one that I loved and started working on getting that S-Class. After a couple days of light grinding, she popped and I went up to the cockpit to claim my prize.

However, much to my dismay, I found that apparently there is a limit to how many times you can take payment and the ship was no longer free! Now here I am, 22 mil into my Expedition save, in a system that's best resource is Activated Copper, and I'm short 156 mil! After trying several money making options and hunting for a bit with no luck, I thought maybe I'd try the Nexus. Maybe, just maybe, someone happens to have a few Stasis Devices?

Well, long story short, to the traveler who, on my first request, handed me 45 of them, I will never forget it! This just speaks to how amazing this community is!

For anyone else who is interested, it is a max-length Resurgent-Class and I've attached and image with the coordinates. It's not too far from good 'ole Gisto Major if you want to take a trip!

Question on Base Uploading [Question]

Hey y’all, a couple questions on base building / uploading.

I’ve heard conflicting things on how many parts you can place / render. Is it a hard cap per base? Or is the limit on parts in the area? (I.E. if your base is spread out you can place more and more)

I understand you can only upload one base per planet. It seems extremely hit or miss whether I can see my friend’s base in our system though. Will the base not load if he uploads when I’m still in the system or something?

My friends base that used to show up for me has now disappeared after he made it significantly bigger. Is there a different limit to what he can build and see, and what he can upload for me to see?

Current optimization? [Discussion]

More than a year ago when I still played NMS the game ran extremely smooth on my computer, but after the Origins update I could notice the performance of the game worsened, especially when traveling to lush planets, it wasn't too bad though, however after that I took break from the game and only reinstalled it when it received major updates and played it only for around 30 minutes or 2 hours before uninstalling again

The reason why I didn't stick around for too long isn't because I suddenly just got bored of exploring infinite space, it was because of the performance worsening once again with each and every update, going from smooth and constant 60fps more than a year ago, to not being able to actually play the game with the amount o frame drops I would get when breaking the atmosphere of a planet for example

My main specs are: Amd Radeon RX 580 8gb Vram; 8gb Ram; I5 processor and I also run the game on high, will the game run smoothly with these specs in 2021 after another 3-4 major updates since Origins? I'm asking this because I didn't try out the newest major updates and don't really want to waste my time installing the game just to uninstall it afterwards like I used to do after Origins

Where are all the Hyperdrive modules? [Question]

Back into my main save with Frontiers dropping and suddenly there are no Hyperdrive upgrade modules in space stations higher than a C class.

I’m in Hyades. Normal save. Have visited at least 30 space stations tonight. Am I getting really garbage RNG or did something change while I was gone?

I am trying to see my NMS friend code but it always comes up blank. When I put in my Xbox friends code it says that it failed. I tried letting NMS through my antivirus and checked that it was allowed through my fire wall. I still have not found a solution. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Savoring the early game / slow run / your thoughts [Discussion]

Let me preface this by saying I have hundreds of hours in the game, and I know all the economic exploits, and that's the problem. The early game is my absolute favorite part of the game, and although I'm not a fan of the mandatory tutorial, being broke and hungry on an unknown planet gives me a thrill like nothing else. Every time I start a new game I find myself creating a head canon about who I am (drifter with amnesia?) (tangled with a sentinel ship and barely survived planetfall?) and then reconciling that with what I learn later about Artemis and Atlas. For me, this is the beating heart of NMS. Who am I, and how can I survive better?

The problem I have is that once I summon the anomaly and get a medium refiner, it's game over. The medium refiner is a money press. I can print money and buy whatever ship, freighter, or materials I want. And although that's gratifying in the short term, it kills the game for me.

What can I do, either via mod or house rule, to (a) skip the tutorial, and (b) otherwise prolong the early game poverty as long as possible? What do you do?

Unable to Join Friend [PC][WINDOWS][STEAM] [Bug]

I have been attempting to join my friend online. We both created a new save, then ventured to our ships and proceeded to save. Neither of us has an option to join via in game. When I attempt to join via the title screen, I receive a "Joining Game..." then "Connecting...", but after approximately 5 seconds the message disappears and nothing happens. Both of us have verified we are playing on the current version. He is playing on Steam and I am playing on Windows.

Submerged Ruins question [Question]

I keep getting sent to the same submerged ruins that I already did. I've been sent there three times already by different observatories. I got the trident key and opened one of the chests, but can't get the other two chests in there because no more trident keys. Is it normal to be sent to the same ruins repeatedly, or did my game break?

So is it generally a bad idea to build a base in the side of a mountain? [Question]

I've put down a handful of bases recently, and my primary, first base has suddenly had the mountain i partially excavated growing back over it. Ported back into my base and the room I ported into was pretty much completely buried inside the side of the hill i partially dug out.

It's happened to a much lesser degree in the past, but since I put down the couple of extra bases recently it's happened more often and more severly. Finally gave up and just rebuilt the whole thing on stilts completely above ground and avoiding have to use the terrain manipulator at all.

Patterns in Time Quest Stuck [Question]

Hey all! So I'm stuck on the part of Patterns in Time where I have to collect a Vy'keen artifact and return it to the cartographer. I found the ruins which for me are underwear. I got a Trident Key, but I can't find the chest anywhere. The marker is in the center of the ruined tower, and I can't find a chest anywhere. I've tried other suggestions. I've warped through a black hole, I've bought a dagger and an effigy but couldn't turn either one in, and I've waited for time to pass but nothing has worked. I can't reset the quest either no matter how far away I get (I'm on PlayStation). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For the Love of the Atlas, Stop Rolling Back! [Discussion]

Three times in three days my settlement has rolled back in the mission log: every time this gets patched on Steam. And every time, I was building something new that gets erased and I'm back to building a landing pad. I have three now...no saloon, which I started yesterday, no market, which I started the day before, and none of any of improvements I paid the debt for. Just the option to build another landing pad. It's worse than when we couldn't progress at all. It would probably work if HG would just quit messing with it. I've sent enough bug reports (no, it's not my graphics drivers, guys).

I'm trying to grow a settlement here, not build an airport.

A beginner looking for some tips [Question]

So I'm playing for the first time since launch, and I've been enjoying the first couple of hours. I built a very meager base and then jumped to another system and ended up on a weird space station. I'm just curious if I should just continue following the "story" or if this is more of a thing where I need to forge my own sort of objectives?

I really want a freighter with a bunch of ships but I don't really get the economy of the game and just to upgrade my ship a little I would need to like quintuple my money. Are there certain tricks for getting my little space empire started while I look for some strange alien?

Why use Living Ships? [Question]

I just got my first Living Ship and now learned that you cannot upgrade the storage and can only (to my knowledge so far) upgrade it by Void Eggs randomly found by Pulsing. I've just been wondering why you would even use Living Ships in the first place when it is so outclassed in storage space? Combat maybe? I like the weapons on the Living Ships, kinda.. I can definitely understand using it for looks, cause it looks sick.

So after todays patch on steam I have an issue. I opened my game and the normal game save that I have 60 hours on is converted somehow to a Community Expedition and none of my friends can join without starting all over again as the expedition. Creature Companion Expansion Idea [Suggestion]

Started playing again with Frontiers and now Glitch creatures are adoptable expanding the range of things i want to raise. In light of this the 6 companion limit seems far too little. Yet increasing it seems like a band-aid cause i would just run up against the new limit too.

My solution?

Rework the "Stasis Device" to actually be a useable tool. Use it on one of your six current companions and it stores them in your inventory. It would work much like creature eggs, except it would save whatever name you gave the occupant...

and once that is made, we might get a Cold Storage construct to specifically store Occupied Stasis Devices in, so they dont take up room in other inventories. Or being able to placed an Occupied Stasis Device in a player base as a creature display...

Building parts changing appearance? [Question]

Been trying to build a little something, and I noticed a section of my walls, that looked as it should when I built it, just... randomly changed appearance after a while. This seems to be happening with every wall type now, and I can't wrap my head around it. Is this normal? Supposed to happen? Something specific that triggers it? Can it be helped or should I sit back and wait for a fix because it's a legit bug? Sorry if this has been brought up before and I missed it, but I'm so confused...

Nms on quest 2 [Question]

I have a pc with a 2080 super, and an i7 8700k, I see plenty of people running it with less than what I have pretty well with the quest 2, and I just can’t seem to get it to do right… I got it to be somewhat playable, then it just stopped. By somewhat, I mean horrible tearing on edges of stuff when I turn my head, micro stutters every 2 seconds, and black screen on the edges when I turn my head every 10-15 second. I KNOW it can run much better than this… I just don’t know what I am doing wrong.

Anyone figure out a good way to use ladders with new (post Frontiers) base parts? [Question]

Couldn't really expand too much more on my main base or use many of the new base parts in a way I liked, so I decided to make a new main base in a better location and just use my old one as a farm... gotten pretty far into my new base so far and loving all the new options, but I can't find any way to place ladders on non prefab structures. The free build option is great, but still makes it hard to line up the ladder correctly with the ground... and if I try to line it up by free placing cuboid structures (since the ladders will attach to those and I can line them up by attaching them to base parts) then the ladders get deleted when i remove the cuboid structure. Anyone have any suggestions?

Stuck on mission Patterns in Time [Bug]

So I found the anomalous structure asked by the Korvax cartographer, problem is: closest land is more than 1 hour away. I did concentric cicrle flight patterns for around 10 minutes searching for the closest place to land and this was it. Nothing else. Do I really have to spend 1 hour traveling to the quest location? Is there a way I can get another planet/location?

So my beautiful settlement on a paradise planet is broken even with latest update and I can't progress. So I decided to start new settlement and I found the perfect planet. Expedition 3 ship roulette. [Question]

I am trying for the little bug ship with no big wings. I have restarted about 20 times so far, completely shutting down the game and restarting expedition but I keep getting the 2 huge winged ship.

Has anyone else had luck switching up ships? My first expedition I got the octo ship which was cool, I finished that expedition then did another and got the bug with the 2 huge wings, just finished that expedition.

Now It just keeps giving me that same ship with the 2 huge wings..

Notification won't go away [Bug]

For a few days now I've had a notification in the bottom right saying a settlement building is under construction, use a space station teleporter to return to your settlement and view progress, however I'm not building anything currently and I've tried tracking other primary and secondary missions but it never disappears and stops me from seeing current objectives, anyone know how to fix this?

Help! Bugged "Base Computer Archives" Mission [Question]

I was messing around with some of the base buiding and I wanted to do the next step and do the Base computer archives mission. But when I try to progress and open the base computer up, there is no options to search the archives. I tried looking some videos up to fix this but nothing works. (Also the videos are from 3+ years ago and don't think they still work IF they ever did)

So what is the lore reasom/ connection between drop pods and inventory upgrades? [Question]

Might be a bit nit picky, but ive noticed a bunch of stuff in NMS that just doesnt really make sense from a lore or immersion perspective.

For example, where are drop pods dropped from and why do they give inventory upgrades?

And atlas passes. The description says they are given to travellers to access high security areas...but we craft them ourselves, no one gives them to us. Does that meen they are counterfeit? Are we illegal?

I now have a total of 4 marketplaces and 1 more being built because the game REFUSES to offer me anything else.

Suggestions for future content. (My wishlist) [Suggestion]

Multiplayer Overhaul, At least for starting a new game. It is really weird when starting a new game with someone. Would be nice if things were completed together for the tutorial. Making things more about working together instead of just being in a group together. Automation/Factory Base parts. Would love to be able to have things auto crafting or being moved from a storage to refiner and back into storage. Or being able to create assembly lines, Being able to create stasis devices is pretty annoying. But it would be less annoying if I was able to create a factory to build them for me. This could take time to do, but you would just have to insert the base ingredients and overtime it would start popping out Stasis Devices every X amount of time, assuming you know all the recipes required to make them. Also in this would be just Refiner improvements. Sitting in one area for 20+ minutes because I have to wait for refiners so my stuff doesn't disappear is not fun. Having upgradable tech or tech that can be attached to things like storage depots that would allow for the transfer of stored material to be transferred into storage units or an automatic crafting device would be nice. So you could transfer things automatically from other bases/farms. Not gonna go into detail because many have suggested it. Randomly generated dungeons on planets. Derelict freighters but on a planet. Only have some kind of randomly generated boss fight at the end. Like a Sentinel Mech, or some weird Alien tentacle monster. Combat overhaul would be cool. Some Melee multi-tool stuff would be neat. Like a beam sword that comes out when you melee. uhhh... Deployable drones. You know... stuff Kind of connected with 3 and 4. But maybe some RPG elements in a NMS kind of way, so instead of allocating stats, we have new technology. So imagine being in a group and you go to some kind of Dungeon and you have...

I'm sure I'm not the first one to suggest this. Imagine, there could be a global chat in the game and it would really bring it to life even more! Meetups could easily be arranged providing you could share glyphs easily and the anomaly would be a popular hub for not just missions but proper trading as well.

Zoology Milestone Troubles. Does this usually mean its a worm? [Question]

Hey travelers, it feels like half the time I try to complete the fauna scans for a planet I always get all but 1 or 2. I'll spend more time trying to find the last fauna then I do finding all the others combined. I'll try to find natural caves but usually nothing in them. I'll jetpack around a good distance, stopping every so often and pointing my scanner at the ground to no avail. Feels poopy :(

Any tips/tricks for those? Or just #dealwithit ?

Killed in Nexus by player [Question]

Has anyone had this happen?? I had just loaded into the anomaly and some player's ship was firing off what looked like missiles or something. He killed like 10 players at once. I didnt get a screen shot in time. I play on Survival...had to reload a save like 30min before that happened...really sucked.

Skip the nexus? [Question]

Im restarting survival and was thinking of doing a No nexus run.

i already have another survival save but its kind of easy.

im not experienced in the game but the nexus makes some settlements redundant.

was also wondering can a planet be drained from resources? or do they respawn?

i also notice that if you leave a system and comeback , buildings replenish themselves (nanites etc)

Con's of having multiplayer on: 1. Tons of glitches and game crashes, in particular in expeditions. 2. A guy giving me 250M worth of AI valves at the beginning of the game; me non realizing that such an amount would ruin the game progression for me. 3. Another guy putting a short range transporter on his base that sends you directly inside a volcano. 4. Another guy shooting people from his ship in the Nexus. 5. 200 nonsensical buildings and juvenile messages around every rendezvous point or living ship quest objective.

I need a solution to leave calypso, no more portal? (Frontier) [Question]

Hello,

I guess I hate calypso so I wanted to jump to the center of the galaxy but I'm like at 400.000 from the center... And I don't have the atlas quest.

So I searched a solution on internet and I found someone posted a portal localisation next to the center of Calypso.

But is there something wrong with Frontier Update? I can't find any portal anymore. I bought event more than 20 Planetary Chart with Alien Cartographic Data (regarding this tuto: https://www.usgamer.net/articles/no-mans-sky-how-to-find-portals-in-2020-synthesis-update)

But I found couple monoliths with questions but when I have the good answer I just win items or race popularity... Nothing else

I Lost track of a Save Beacon - What went wrong? [Question]

I think I'm using the save beacon wrong. I'd appreciate any guidance.

I took on a settlement protection mission. On the settlement planet, I decided not to pursue the settlement mission mid-way and in the midst of local exploration, I hit save on a waypoint. I then came upon an observatory tracking an ancient ruin on a neighboring toxic planet. I jumped planets started the ruin mission and realized my existing toxic protection wasn't adequate. So I put down a save beacon next to the ruin. While I didn't hit 'save' on the beacon, I thought my steps were enough to retrace later.

I then visited a couple of space stations to pick up an exosuit toxic upgrade and when I returned to the system I could no longer locate the save beacon. Moreover the original 'Settlement Mission' planet is not in my visited list. What would have been the right way to save and find the location?

Keybind Remapping for movement controls of Exocraft is missing [Bug]

I belong in the 10% of the human population who is left-handed. Piloting the Exocraft (especially the Nautilus) is a nightmare. I implore the development team to add a remapping option for the movement of the Exocraft. It is hardcoded to be WASD.

Not having the option to change this is absurd. I've been seeing discussions from many years ago of people requesting it. Please do it. I really believe I'm not asking too much from the development team, as this can be tended to in literally ten minutes with a few lines of code.

I flaired this post as a bug, because it's an absurd omission and makes part of the game unplayable.
