The universe is huge, the mechanics are deep… but what’s the purpose? [Suggestion]
First of all, sorry for my English — it’s not my first language.
Don’t get me wrong — I love No Man’s Sky, and this latest corvettes customization update is amazing. But every time I come back to the game, I find myself asking: what’s the point of all this?
NMS has a massive universe packed with mechanics: exploration, base building, fleets, trading, mechs, ground vehicles, frigates, Villages, combat, and now even customizable corvettes… Yet in the end, everything feels disconnected. You mine, you build, you explore — but it never feels like you’re contributing to something bigger.
Meanwhile, games that are much more “grindy,” like Elite Dangerous, manage to keep me engaged. Why? Because there’s a real economy, factions expanding, and a sense of collective impact. Even when you’re doing something small, it feels like part of a living ecosystem.
In NMS, I actually found the new mission panel in corvette really interesting — it’s a great addition on paper. But the missions themselves end up feeling underwhelming, with tasks like “destroy 12 hazardous flora” or “collect X items.”
Things I would suggest: Real factions – imagine being able to pick one and actually fight for it; System conquest – mini wars to expand territory, with ground battles against NPCs.
There’s something missing that makes us actually want to use all those amazing and crazy mechanics the game already has.
Does anyone else feel the same way?
