Insane FPS drops and micro stuttering [Question]
My Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D
GPU: RX 7800 XT Speedster MERC 319 OC
RAM: 32GB Kingston 3600MHz (XMP enabled)
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming
Storage: Kingston KC3000 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD
Monitor: 2K (1440p)
My Issue with No Man’s Sky (150+ hours):
Throughout my entire time playing NMS (~150 hours), I’ve dealt with constant FPS drops, stuttering, freezing, and generally unstable performance — even with what I consider to be a pretty powerful system.
I’m genuinely close to uninstalling the game for good. I’ve tried just about everything I could find, including:
🔧 Fixes I’ve Already Tried:
Clearing caches (Steam, shader caches, game-specific temp files)
Reinstalling GPU drivers (I always keep them updated anyway)
Using Process Lasso (no improvement)
Changing Windows performance mode (programs vs background services)
Editing launch parameters (e.g. -numthreads)
Enabling AMD Anti-Lag / Anti-Lag+
Tweaking registry settings based on YouTube/Reddit suggestions
Forcing high-performance mode for NMS in AMD Adrenalin
Lowering every in-game setting, including resolution (no real FPS gain — still ~100 FPS at 1440p)
Monitoring temps — GPU/CPU stay between 70–80°C under load, never thermal throttle
Clearing Windows temp files
Completely reinstalling the game
Reinstalling Windows (literally zero impact on performance)
The Problem:
No matter what I change, the game just refuses to run smoothly. Even on the lowest settings, FPS is stuck around 100, with constant dips, stutters, and freezes — completely killing immersion.
I’ve seen people with worse hardware have better experiences. At this point, I’m completely out of ideas.
If anyone has experienced this with a similar setup — or has any ideas or suggestions — I’d really appreciate it. Even small...
