I don't know how much damage they do to a new player without a lot of protection, but I just generally let the glowy jellyfish hit me. Doesn't do much, except knock my aim askew.

They don't do much, but they're annoying
I lose about half my shields when a whole cluster of them hit me
And that's with 3 S class shield upgrades stacked next to each other

Grouped up like that without full S protection, and not paying attention can get your shields down pretty quick.
