I'm also using two items from the Lights menu, the Lab Lamp, which I've scaled down to as small as they'll go. Those are on the walls near the middle. And I use the "Light" which looks a bit light a coleman lantern and gives a yellow light.
Lastly, at the top of the walls, above the decals, are lights that require wired power. These I call sodium lights, but the build menu just calls them 'colored lights.' They take 5 sodium to build, hence my name. Wiring bases for power is a whole conversation. LOL
Other good sources of light that don't require wiring are items that you can collect on exotic planets. But those are spoilers for those who haven't been to exotics before.

The idea for VR when big reminds me of some VRChat stuff; my buddy has a full-scale Sahelanthropus from MGSV as one of his avatars. In VRC, the view "scales" with avatar size so when he's in that model everyone looks like dolls and worlds look like toys and playsets. Moreso because of VR.
I don't think it'd work that smoothly in NMS if scaled up in VR but I kinda now wanna romp around somewhere like New Lennon as a giant and knock over everyone's lego/erector sets (not really) and try to snatch starships from out of the sky. Like a "just right" amount of giant.

Yes, they can be underwater. They can also be on those islands and whatnot. Its pure RNG. For an island it's going to be all luck OR you'll need to rotue power from underwater to the island. If you want to do this and have it look nice, create an underground tunnel (you may get lucky and find a hollow island) and wire the entire grid from below.
Take this pro tip: Invest in an explorer Starship, max out it's launch/landing ability and fly across an ocean planet. You will need to land and take off A LOT. This was a huge pain in my fighter that eats 40% of it's fuel per take off...

@valid mountain I typically search for a building spot by flying along the coast of a planet (or just wherever if no water). If I need to jump in and out a lot, I summon the Nomad, then delete the pad after I summoned it, so I can pretty much travel where I like. Handy if you want to hunt for an EM hotspot.

@granite peak when I was helping @lime verge build a base the other day, I used the Candela plants as cheap no power lighting. I usually use the Calicishroom for doorways and don't use the Candela much myself because they are a little too bright.

I often scale down the candelabra and mask it with a plant.
the calcishrooms would be my fave, but they give off a high hum that gives me a headache, much like fluorescent lights.

Yeah there's always going to be flooding in the transition areas. Make sure your upper part is above the water, and the lower part below. If you have a room that intersects the water line, that's where you will have problems.

One of my more recent bases forewent transitions entirely. I have the base on an island. The circuit board farm is underwater. I simply use a short range teleporter to get between them.

Mining activated indium helps to get the chromatic metal i used to convert gases
i only have a nitrogen mine so i had to spend 20k chromatic metal on sulphurine and an additional 40k on radon

Switch the 2 pulse drive modules in tech to where the blueprint and module are for the weapon in the left corner

Straight lines are good for 3 things, when you have 4 you want squares for maxing, the difference will be pretty small though so I wouldn't obsess about it

When you're building a large base, airless planets have fewer things to draw in, allowing you to build a lot more before you start getting draw-in issues. @hexed axle
And when you're building sky / space bases, the lower gravity makes it much easier to move around.
