Don't worry about the stats right now. Get yourself a rifle that has at least 12 slots and add some S-class scanner upgrades.
2 or 3 of those (you need some more nanites first) will get you a few hundred thousand units for each fauna you scan.

I believe that the screenshots of pre-release builds feature an incredibly solid artistic merit that I hope the game someday reclaims. Yes, the game looks very nice now, and is able to maintain a more consistent visual standard much more than older playable builds, but I still find myself being more artistically inspired by the environments displayed in the pre-release builds. The images are softer and more painterly, the colour palettes more subdued. The texture work used to be a lot simpler too. I don't want to harp on about it though because i'll just sound like somebody that hates the current game, which isn't true.
Those early screens didn't need reworked high definition textures, light shafts, tesselation, draw distance extensions or ambient occlusion to look great, I guess is my point.
