Here’s what the Galactic Atlas has to say about knowledge stones. It says that a knowledge stone is an ancient prose device that is created with the intent to preserve and pass on the many different words of an alien language corresponding to the lifeform's species that is inhibiting said star system.

The Nomad’s Guide to the Galaxy also mentions knowledge stones. It says the best use of a knowledge stone is to take pictures of them in a cluster and add tiny little speech bubbles to anthropomorphize them.

It says that the mental effect of doing so is nearly equal to the positive mental exercise of trapping a fellow nomad in a nearly indestructible structure using the terrain manipulator.

The Guide also tells you from which subreddits the most karma you can expect, where you can discover such clusters and which specific spawning rules these curious formations are dictated thereupon.
