No problem! Also, thanks. It's a work in progress, but lots of progress is being made. ๐
Even as a WIP it's still amazing... and in all honesty, NMS could be considered a WIP. I still absolutely love it though
That's so true. No Man's Sky, in itself is a WIP game with so much potential.
Working on it ๐
If next doesnโt bring variation and immersion to biomes Iโll just go with your mod ray, once you have it released on ps4 ๐
Looks very good
If you're able to release it on ps4 you'll be my new hero Ray, mark my words
If NEXT brings variation ad immersion to biomes (which it probably will), I'll just push it further
Even with great updates, and polished games, there's always room for improvement and more content
Indeed, a game is like a giant stone that can be sculpted
It's good to see that you have a good vision on it
I have no idea how you are gonna get a mod on PS4 but if you do...great job!
Thanks.
I did modify the ps4 build already
But I have it on hold at the current moment, as I'm really tied up with work on the PC build
So i'm talking out of ignorance because i know nothing, but will we have a mod option in next or in a near future?? (if that's what im understanding, i might be getting it wrong)
It would be awesome to see that, but we don't know for sure @faint trench
@solar violet oh well, i guess i'll just wait for the future and hope that it turns out to happen
@somber marsh I think I just saw something like that on Reddit
Hey guys, could we please keep this convo in #nms-modding
Sure thing @Matthew
Sure thing
@heady phoenix yeah, that was probably me. I have a different name on there. u/LastDaysOnEarth72
@somber marsh pretty sure it was you then. ๐
Iโm pretty sure modding the game on ps4 would require some non-sony approved stuff, like jail breaking, right?
I donโt think you can mod a game on PS4 without breaking something iirc
Going to respond to you in #nms-modding @main dove
As it's quite the contrary in regard to breaking stuff
Just recently uploaded all of my screenshots since the release of the game (I didn't take too many before photo mode)
Tried to share some ps4 screenshots but it gave me errors :/
@main dove mods..?
Is that even No Man's Sky?
ach nevermind
thought you had a really sick cloud mod lol
@main dove
No mods
no way that's no mans' sky
it's hard to tell because it's a bit low res
That's not NMS
lol
That's a real-life screenshot
Or render, hard to tell but def not nms
Looks pretty though ๐
the colors from a distance are what struck me off
probably wanna specify that next time

those are fun to travel around /s
@celest steeple from space station?
Yea
Found a beautiful shot from an older version of @solar violet 's mod. Somewhere in early v10 beta testing
That was a radioactive planet too haha

Beautiful
Thanks!
Wish I could share my recent screens but a bug on ps4 is randomly preventing me from it
Let me guess
You press the share button
and then it doesn't take a screenshot?
Because that's what's been happening to me
Mine takes forever to take a screenshot. I have to sit and wait, but it does it eventually. I think because of 4K
No but then I use the share option in the gallery or when I want to connect an account through ps4 settings, it gives me some errorcode
You gotta share some of those 4k screenshots matthew
Haha, I will soon! I've been too busy playing #other-games haha
Just crafted a warp cell from this monolith
Wait this is not like the others
that doesn't belong here
@dry reef Sorry but you gotta post in #off-topic-bond-james-bond

Sorry I broke the thread...do you think we'll survive???
Can we live another day?
Wont happen again.
@warped thistle Hey nyx sorry for pinging you, but could you delete that pic above. It's not no mans sky related and definitely not a screencap
No, just people trying to follow rules and make sure others follow the rules as well
If you have the power to delete then just delete I'm new here and I was nust being silly. You came on a bit strong. But no hard feelings
Hi. @dry reef this is a screencap of NMS only. Please keep those types of posts in the #off-topic-bond-james-bond side. Thanks
No so difficult and not as rude
I think I said that
Meh
Sorry im just waking up and you felt a little bit d-bag but AGAIN no hard feelings. I hope we could move on and become pals

Please indicate if images are from a modded game!
It's a very important distinction to make.
Spent a few hours working on this template, that I will use for a broader range of things. (Using RaYRoD's Overhaul) WIP Reboot
looks very nice ๐ฎ
Thanks!
havent tried modded bbut that makes me want to lol ^^ i guess this game is an excellent canvas for people to do work on
No Man's Sky to me feels like it has infinite potential, and I love working with this game... as I also see it as an execellent canvas to work with.
infinite potential, huh? ^^
This mod looks pretty cool tbh
@crude slate Yes, indeed! The game's engine in it's current state isn't even using 1% of it's potential.
@languid geyser Thanks!
Yeah i just got it on PC as i have had it on PS4 since launch so gonna start modding it, this is my first pick @solar violet
@languid geyser That's awesome man. Unfortunately, the current public version has certain specific issues leftover (most of them are ironed out). However, I can assure you that I am working hard on a newer, more superior version again. This time I am remaking the entire project from scratch after 10,000 hours invested on the former version. It will be a reboot of the Overhaul mod.
Anyway, here are a few more screenshots from the work in progress new version of 'RaYRoD's Overhaul'
Wow that amazing @solar violet the amount of dedication in this is astounding, terrific job!!
@solar violet make a version with increased leaf densidy please
@solar violet shouldnt you wait until next comes out? you never know what changes theyve made to it ๐ฎ
Hi, @crude slate. I just responded to you in #nms-modding
a glitch that happens when you land in a freighter right after a sentinel space battle (Lvl 5)
literally i went through the ceiling and this happens XD
woah
Noice
"aww this system sucks" "WTF DID U SAY CHILD"
Also look at this majestic guy ๐ absolutely imperial!!
So, I just overhauled the way that the game's engine generates all things. The game is now practically seamless, and you can barely ever see anything generating or fading in (though it still does).
I was also just flying across a planet at full speed and I did not see anything fading in/generating except one or two trees that were extremely far away. Also, this was a dense and tall forest. Every asset in the game now feels like it has always been there, and that it will always be there.
https://i.imgur.com/OEp0BIk.png
Anyway, that's screenshot is a rainforest variant that I quickly made for testing.
that looks pretty amazing ๐ also the seamlessness is very cool, thats a huge for immersion ๐ฎ good job!
Thank you. It feels so much better, without seeing things fade in every few seconds.
Also, the antelopes in this game are really cute. They're one of my fav creatures apart from the Diplos
I love those tendril plants
they give grav ball
heh, but its rare to find a planet that have vortex cube and grav ball. Non-extreme planet
For sure, that's super rare
I do be
Also on PS4 though
Just haven't made almost any progress since it's nicer on PC
are you in eissentam there
lol ok
That looks great!
Thanks! ๐
Is this applied to the grass as well?
Yeah

@main dove what does that mod do?
waw, i cant even say, its all my mods since the start of atlas rises ๐ + lo2k and jhookahs
Oh gotcha haha, thought it was a single thing. I don't mod but it looked different than some of the things I've seen so I was curious. Thanks!
yeah, actually its all splitable on several parts
since its the end of the modding period ( next is coming) i did a version with (almost ) all mashup
Ah very cool. Do you make the mods or just use them?
no no i made most of them, others are from my friends jjhookah and lo2k
wow
They look amazing
thx man
Okay nice! Looking good. I dabbled a little when the game was released but wanted to play so bad so I stopped hahaha.
But yeah with NEXT coming it makes sense to wind down a bit, since you have no way of knowing what will come with it and how it will change the landscape of modding
@wise pivot Do you ever wonder what NMS would be like with the game's generation being overhauled, so that there's practically no fadein?
If you look back at the trailers (or gameplay demonstrations), the transition from space to planet was very smooth. Alongside the casual exploration's generation being very subtle.
Don't want to shoot you down too fast but I don't actually use mods, I like playing the game vanilla. I've seen your photos of that though, looks very cool. I was curious to know though, how do you deal with performance hits from rendering more of the distant fauna and landscape?
P.s. I'm in comp engineering so no need to spare gritty details ๐
Ah, yeah no worries. I'm also an avid vanilla player on PC and PS4 :P
What I'm asking is... "Do you ever wonder, what NMS would be like, with the game's generation overhauled interally?" So, that it feels like the game does not need to generate things consistently.
Also meant Flora, not fauna, guess both apply though haha
And yeah I think it'd be neat to see structures on distant planets for example
It was like this pre-release, as there was barely any need to fadein while flying down to planets, or on planets.
But that's shooting for the moon (no pun intended)
Like right here for example:
https://youtu.be/nmwG6Sj1Yfg?t=196
And this planet makes lovely screenshots โค
Over four minutes of No Man's Sky gameplay footage, which premiered at PlayStation Experience. May contain content inappropriate for children, visit www.esrb...
I think most of the prerelease stuff was due to them not having to load as many assets or something. Each one of the E3 planets was a premade biome, still run through the generation algo of course.
Turns out that's not case. ๐
But even the diplo vids and other things were just using prerendered models with no rigging for procedural animations
Not entirely. ๐
I mean, the ones from the trailer weren't built in a way to be placed into the procedural generation initially, although I'm sure it could be tweaked to work
I've discovered a superformula related mechanism that HelloGames utilized for objects w/o a selectable amount of procedural parts and also for creatures.
They were just models with an animation loop, at least the specific files I looked at were
That talk about "Not a single blade of grass, or snowflake, being identical, or creature" it's true.
Oh yeah for sure
That's what I enjoy haha
Everything's always different, even if similar
So, those diplos that we're referring to right now...
Although (they didn't have proc parts) they didn't need any.
Because they were always drastically different.
As the result of a mechanic that I was the first to discover internally.
The same mechanism was applied to various flora, and other models.
Think of it as a blender plugin, where (the game would morph) these assets on the fly based off of bone structure.
There's oooold articles written about this, speaking of a consistently unique universe. However, (this mechanic is not currently enabled) - And it was very scarcely shown to us pre-release.
Do you happen to have any examples? Also I'm gonna he afk for a bit, I'm on mobile and need to do some stuff around the house ๐ feel free to DM with more though.
The pre-release planets, were also not entirely "pre-made". You see, I have restored/ported various E3/pre-release planets and I understand their biome structure (although it's alien to the game's current biome structure). The pre-release biomes, even that rainforest Oria V were fully procedural biomes.
There were a few scripted events in place, but they had a full on procedural universe.
And all of the assets are still present.
And many of the creaturess there (that are unused) are procedural creatures, but that mechanism was used a substitue for the non-proc part.
Also, it has been thought that "The reason why the game's fade-in and generation" was so sublte, was the result of a lesser finished game.
However, turns out to not be the case.
I've recently overhauled the game's procedural generation, engine mechanic and have created a seamless in-game universe.
I'm kind of sceptical on the "no blade of grass is the same"
So that everything feels as if it was always there, and always will be there in all directions.
@main dove It's quite simple.
Think of Blender.
You can morph, stretch, twist, do practically anything to an object.
mhm
They had that flowing on the fly, for each individual model asset being spawned (rather than duplicate models being spawned identically)
Like a real-time blender morphing mechanism.
Same concept applied to creatures, with rules, in relevancy to bone structure
HelloGames wrote about it.
Very vaguely
๐ค
Love this creature
A variant of this creature was shown in the Stephen Colbert footage
In a trailer, and also in some off the record scenarios.
One of them is a proc model (with several) procedural parts
Hmm I think I do some screenshots today :P
@wise pivot It's all good. Well, depends what kind of example that you're looking for. There's xml data for it. You can also even see it visually when applied. There is still 1 model that has it active.
But yeah, going back to what I first asked... it's 100% possible to replicate old footage in the aspect of seamless generation.
I've recently accomplished that and am planning to record a video for it.
Except this time it's pushed further.
With zero fps cost
Something else to point out, is that this mechanic is currently not used at all.
Adding onto what you said earlier here: "That's what I enjoy haha
Everything's always different, even if similar"
What I'd like to add to what you said was, that the mechanic would make it so that it is not similar at all (and always totally different) - responding to Zoid.
@ Abloid-26, it's a mystery.
As to why not, but it doesn't upset me.
I find it interesting.
There are literally tens of thousands of things that I've seen, that are just not turned on.
And one might thing "bugs" "performance"
Although, I don't know what their reason was.. and I respect and trust HG's
Maybe it messed with other code?
But from my experience, there's no consequences of it.
Nah
Designer choice possibly
I really want to see this stuff in action now
Look at Achaia here for example:
In this photo, you can notice a few thinns.
There is a crescent world variant (I believe that they had them flowing dynamically, while also having eclipses flowing dynamically, planetary rotation which has been seen in-game before, and binary star systems)
in that photo
There's also a more natural lighting
The vignette at the top is (more subtle) - currently the vignette in-game takes up a majority of the screen
In pre-release snaps, they also utilized a great portion of a set of files that handle atmospherics that I have been working with
This has a great deal to do with the visuals taking place here
There is a subtle heightfog on the ground
The terrain on this particular planet was very rough
You can see a singular flyby
(It's possible to do so) - in the vanilla game they are always in groups of 4-5
I added about 3,000 AI rules
for all spaceship activity
When I think of NMS I think of that picture
After looking back at pre-release snaps and footages... I decided to revive freighters that warp into planets, fly on planets, on-planet space battles like the Infinite Worlds trailer (not referring to ai combat) - Like full on planetary space battles as if you would see them in space. Alongside various other things.
Yeah, it's a lovely snap that HG's took
But yeah, @main dove 98% of what I mentioned isn't utilized
Just from that one photo
(Not saying this negatively)
But to emphasize that this is a game with great potential. Not only with what "can be added NEXT"
But what has always been here
And this is a fragment
I've been creating a modernized E3/IGN/Pre-release build for the past year and a half, and every day is a step in that direction. It has required a lot of research, testing, theory, and implementation
If it doesn't, then I will do it
I'm not going to stop until I surpass (what was)
And then I will surpass what surpasses what was.
and then to infinity and beyond
It's a great learning experience, and I'm also learning a lot of inside secrets from the outside in ๐
But if you send me any pre-release photo
Anything
I can label almost anything/everything that is in that picture
What's going on
It's at a point where when I look at photos of NMS and pinpoint everything that's going on.
Read our hands-on impressions of No Man's Sky here: http://www.pcgamer.com/no-mans-sky-hands-on/ And, our interview with Sean Murray of Hello Games here: htt...
What about this video?
I really liked this video
The lush planets look really good
This is an IGN footage video ofc, All of these planets are in the files exactly. Yavil, Yhzeluez, Balari V, and PHlek
Yavil = Lush, Yhzeluez = Scorched, Balari V = Frozen, Phlek = Toxic
I've actually ported/re-created these biomes
I recently ported over the official ecology table from Phlek
Anyway, in one of the IGN footages of Balari V, you can see that the space station (being used at that time) - alongside various older footages was an atmospheric Atlas Station.
Can you share some recreated screenshots of Yavil?
The ground had different triplanar texture mapping within the shaders (to reveal more detail on the terrain and the ground)
I really want to see some sc's of that
Sure

This is from the v10 Overhaul
This is a Yavil variant re-creation
I added that extra, (as it was used in older builds) than the IGN footage build with Yavil, balari v, Yhzeluez, Phlek

And here's a video of Balari V that I ressurected and improved
I'm in the process of translating, converting, re-creating, and integrating all pre-release trailer biomes out of passion into the current No Man's Sky: RaYR...
It's old footage
of an older Overhaul build
From last year
But yeah, sadly not all of the pre-release planets are present
Though the assets are
But that isn't an issue for me
I have a thing for looking at concept arts, fan arts, pre-release photos or footages
As a concept
And re-creating it in-game
Sand planet:
https://imgur.com/1TgCOqL
Is there any strictly-prerelease planet that you would like to see recreated in-game?
That you've seen before?
For the overhaul reboot, I'm going to be heavily focusing on this.
I restored an off the record E3 planet named
"IKOLAMSKY"
Recently
Also, "Yaasrij" from the Portal trailer
Oria V
Sure, I did Oria V in the past... but I am planning to re-do it

Of the old version
Ohhh, I loved those
Those are from the video
"A tour of 5 new planets"
Yes, I'm gonna do that.
๐
yeeet
I don't know
He starts off in the cave
And a bird flies by
And there's mountains and grass
Gonna check quck
Phlek?
We flew to five random planets in No Man's Sky, and this is what we saw.
Right here
omg
NMS on Steroids ๐
Phlek is from the other IGN 5-planet tour I think.
Yup, that's also on my todo list
I restored the Phlek ecology table
Still gotta do the biome
I want to do them all.
That's my goal.
But I'm not just aiming to restore what was.
I'm also pushing it further and creating dozens of variations of those biomes.
While also fusing several multi-biome ish aspects to it
Which will be additional, apart from the original version
That's what the natural game misses, multi-biome planets and planets with different regions, like a north and south pole with different climates
Well, in this case... it's sort of the illusion of multi-biomes. Like, you may cross a sandy desert ish area... only to run into a swampy alienish looking underwater biome (that can fuse with the land), prior to traversing forward into a grassy plains that leads up to a dense forest.... before more dirt.
That kind of stuff happens with the overhaul
Yeah ๐ that's cool
Talking about swamps
I have never seen a swamp in No Mans Sky
They were in the game in 1.0
Stream highlight from: www.twitch.tv/kackishd Showcasing a pretty amazing swamp planet discovered in No Man's Sky, featuring DRAGONS, DINOSAURS, and a HIDDEN...
Beautiful ๐
That picture I shared is a pre-release swamp haha
Oh yeah, I saw that video that you shared before.
It's sort of swampyish
Here is one of my swamp biomes
I am planning to re-do it, but here's one of them:
sec
Is it possible to have crashed underwater ships like in prerelease?
Aand here is "Bubble Swamp Island"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6CAgMpRbT4
Build a home base anywhere you'd like in RaYRoD's Overhaul mod. I built mine on "Swamp Island". Here is a small photo album of this "procedural" biome that I...
No filter or external post processing my friend
That planet just happened to have dense fog.
: O
I have dynamic weather that transitions in real-time
Storms also transiton to grey clouds at times on lush planets
Hahah well that says a lot about me, a natural game player, not knowing the so many features in the mods
And a subtle depth of field kicks in
(Another mechanic) used pre-release
These are all gems from (pre-release builds) that I like to re-realize and do my own take on
Yeah in photo mode you can make the clouds extremely thick, wonder why they haven't implemented that during heavy storms
That's possible too.
For it to flow like that in real-time
I set that up
It really helps with immersion
Exactly
Well, fingers crossed for some more awesome immersion and variation on planets in NEXT ๐ค
Pre-release snap.
I have the pre release artbook, so many designs that haven't made it to this state of the game
Nice!
Before the game's release, (like many others) I loved to watch the footages on replay all day haha
Just wanted to explore these places
As they look amazing.
Anticipating the game's release
But even to this day, that marvel, that internal spark has not faded
I'm just trying to re-make it myself, because I still feel the same about NMS
Those trailers got me so hyped up I was ready to spent 100 euros on it, as I did, I regretted it SO much back then but now that I got to know the ideology of Hello Games, the nice community and just how No Mans Sky is, together with the Steel Casing, the box, the comic book, the art book, it's defenitely worth it after all
Oh yes, they work so hard on their game and listen to their community.
And the game even in it's vanilla state imo is a masterpiece.
Even w/o everything that once was
Yeah it's so unique
I really love indie games
They express more creative freedom
And are typicallly founded upon passion, rather than an ulterior motive for a quick cash grab
And are typically unique
Whether or not it's popular is irrelevant to me
But there's a lot of indie games that are just gems in their own style
That's very true, a lot of triple A dev's should take notes when looking at how Indie Games developers interact with their communities
Lots of the games popular right now have dev's doing what they want often leaving the communities dissapointed
I mean, I know that "Proteus" is basically a walking simulator... but it's a work of art.
You play it, and you just wanna go to those places.
Alike many others
Yea true
They spoil us with creative content for free
It's so neat
Yes but is it me or do herds appear more often now
Not smart or something, but I feel like I see more packs of creatures spawning as like a family
But the herds there, walk in unison
and stay together
Here's a better example
In this gameplay demo

Hello Games founder Sean Murray gives us a guided tour of one planet in No Man's Sky's universe as our month-long IGN First coverage kicks off.
Right here, at this time.
You can see a little herd of creatures in a group, sticking together
Yeh that feels way more natural
And here is the infamous herd rhino from the trailer:

As you can see, it's a procedural model
I wonder what they did, if that was the actual pre-release game, to change it to the 1.0 state with way less immersion and variation
It's a mystery to me, but it doesn't make me angry like it does or did to some people
But I just love to look at it and marvel and replicate bit by bit

It made me angry when I pre-ordered the game for 100 euros to turn out it wasn't like in the trailers, but I got over that about a year ago and I am fine with it now. I believe hello games is gonna work into the directions of the pre-release game, with better fauna and flora and stuff

Honestly, it seems like game is more centered on realism than the nostalgic more painterly style
That was like walking in a painterly 80's scifi novel
And that is honestly so cool
That's what stood out to me the most
The pre-release shaders were far more different than all released versions
True that
But comparing 1.0 to when they changed it to the 1.38 shaders
Don't know the exact update
Yeah, it's a lot different now than then
Yeah and those patrolling sentinel ships ๐
Every planet procedural. Every planet unique. Every planet unexplored. http://www.no-mans-sky.com/ http://www.twitter.com/hellogames Music: http://www.65days...
There's a super short flash of a super formula related tree
This is the very first trailer.
But like the crashed freighter in that trailer
And then literally make it and put it in-game
They implemented that in the game in an update
So just like that, I have faith in Hello Games putting more pre-release stuff in the game the community has always wanted
Which one?
That freighter?
Yea
Nah
That's a different freighter
In an unused directory
The new one is a different model
Yeah okay but the concept
Yeah, the concept. Indeed.
However..
The concept in that photo is deeper than you think ๐
Those sentinels are actually patrolling that freighter and are baited too it for a specific purpose
(There's data in the files with that unused freighter) for that
Also, that planet, that terrain, the vibes there man........ โค
The investigating sentinels really complete it, wonder why they haven't put that with the update
There's only so much that can be implemented within a set timeframe
But, it's possible that they didn't plan to
Picture of some sort of space port in the art and concept book
Huh wdym
Yeah hahah

See the near identical building? ๐
The most wicked landscape in the artbook
Was actually about to mention that next hehe
Hahah aye
Yeah so close to the planet
It's a concept art replication
I managed to convert an Atlas Station into a fully functional space station
I put a space station inside of it too
And allowed them to loom in the atmosphere
Here is one of them:

They dynamically show up
There have been times where they have
looked as if they were on the planet
like that old pre-release photo
And one time it crashed into a planet
I noticed that ๐ awesome work
Thanks:)
He took the pose
Lol
@copper pine - Are your shots from yesterday PS4, PC modded, or PC "real"?
You mean vanilla.

So it's sized down

Lo2k did awesome clouds
It's a shader related mod. I re-worked it further.
@main dove No more pixelated clouds.
You gotta show some screenshots
Sure, I can take some. However, it's one of those things that are better seen in motion.
Formerly, awesome shader mods like (Lo2k's True Clouds) shown in that pic, which is a great improvement to the game...
Would improve clouds, but also further pixelate things (on occasion)... which he talked about.
As a side effect, to the shader adjustments.
However, I worked a fix for it.
It would usually occur when flying down to a planet
or at night time
But now it's consistent all around, at all angles, at all times of day/night with any color... like this photo:

@main dove the clouds are from lo2k ๐ (true clouds )
Man I want those clouds in next
look amazing
great job ray
and lo2k
I swear y'all makin some crazy stuff
Thanks man!
Lo2k's true clouds, + the adjustments that I made and other shader changes feels great in-game.
Hopefully, on NEXT we'll see that new cloud tech ๐
i prefer lo2k version :p
@main dove What would you like to see in-game?
I prefer our more-improved version.
Hmmm
You know
I don't know
It's only when you add things
When you add your own stuff that makes me think "Damn I want that in vanilla"
otherwise I have no idea
When I finish my PS4 port, what would you look forward to the most?
