Just handcrafted another 400 proc biomes with rules and algorithms (713 in total) now
And also imported every version of No Man's Sky into Atlas rises (1.0, An alternate 1.0 style, Path Finder) while still keeping the path Atlas Rises base game planets
Aiming for 1,000 for my v10 release... but the biome mod will also be a standalone when it's done.

The way that I prefer to handcraft procedural biomes with rules and algorithms is similar to the way Sean demonstrated in pre-release footage.
I start off by creating a "flat terrain template". Then I add planetary features like terrain, hills, resources, mountains, rivers, craters, crevaces, arches and various other things. Then I start by adding various algorithms and rules on different levels, and level of detail.

Rewriting the terrain generation file. It was a pain. Like 500k lines... but
damn i never knew there where souch mods out there, only played on vanila..
The result ended in a near infinite terrain variety but makes sense
For eg...
One was totally flat
Another had giant mountains
Another was an island water world with cave islands:
Another was a giant cave
Another was floating islands with thick heightfog
Another 2 were super spiky
Another was full of beaches
Another two were swirvy and full of ridges
Another was made compeltely out of heridium
Another was made out of chrysonite
Another had giant floating mountains with steps
Another was a giant purple island on a water world
Another was swampy
Another was super foggy
But the vanilla planets are still out there
As well
These type of planets should be fairly rare
But that's just the voxel noise generation
Aside from additional biomes being added
There's a lot more out there

In the end, Hello Games gave us a beautiful game. I also respect that they actually "paved way" for modders to mod the game; rather than closing it off.
I'm glad that they put so much effort into this game, even after a year + duration. I do play vanilla on my ps4, but it's awesome to see what can be done with this game. It makes the time worth iit; although it's tedious... yet fun. 😃

@proven current The last pit that I jumped into had spiky ground in some areas, while in other areas there was water, and in some other areas there with deep (2016 style) caves with predator creatues, and sandy slopes. I provided way to get out though. But it's like an entire sub biome a lot of times.

Synonymous to what I mentioned earler... (about 85%) of planets have vanilla terrain. 5% has slightly altered than vanilla terrain with more varied resource deposits, and 10% has a lot of crazy variations. I took those snaps because I like these planets.

Can't really make that statement on the basis of a few handpicked snaps though, when it's pushed out you will see. I haven't seen it all, and will continue to see more variations.

How varied are those animals you sent in reality?
Like, this is the exact same as the trailer
The E3 creature models are not proc gen for the most part. However, there are quite a few handcrafted variations of those non proc gen models done by HG. There are a few ways that I can approach this.
Some of those ways, are in that log above.
I'll give a few examples of some things that just came to my mind (but I'm down for any suggestions).
I could restrict those Oria V type creatures (including) several that we weren't shown in trailers, give them all various animations; different class roles (uncommon, rare, and common) (predator, passive) and assign them with rules to appear on certain regions of an Oria V biome type based upon the terrain tiling; like "Caves, mountains,base terrain, or assigning certain creature role types underwater".
Apart from that, the sizes will be procedural for those creatures with a min/max cap. There are other things that I may do to them creatively, as what comes to my mind.

It's rendered the way planets face in relevance to the position of the sun. Coded in the GLSL shaders which gets quite complex

Making adjustments to my Modernized, Classic E3 HUD. Making this required hacking the executable in real-time and creating my own real-time HUD editor. It also required working my way through 11 million lines of xml scripting and various testing. (WIP)

Currently working on restoring unused biomes by Hello Games. I also decided to add collision to these old props by calculating the geometrics of those objects and linking them to the specific models, and I attached them to other files in order to make them mineable, and different props (depending upon their rarity) give different resources and they are scannable. I'm trying to give them all purpose. Once I take care of all of the collisions, and re-texturing for some low poly things, I'll start handcrafting biomes for these unused assets. Sort of like I did for this E3 Crystal Forest Biome.
In short, it's for v10 of my overhaul. I'm currently at 801 additional biomes.
At the moment, all versions of No Man's Sky are integrated into one. So, the 2016 (1.0) version planets/biomes being completely identical from space and on the surface are here, a modded 2016 style, the foundation update planets, the path finder planets, and the Atlas Rises planets exist... alongside several hundred procedural biomes that I handcrafted with rules and algorithms.
Currently making/adding more content creatively and ironing out some things and am on a bug hunt, seeking to ensure consistency 😃

My goal/inspiration has been a cross between E3 style nostolgia with a modern vibe but linked to the initial game's aesthetic with a few rare exceptions. To not stray from the original game's intended lore/style, to not break the default vibe, but to enhance it.

Yeah, I'll continue to take my time. I'm on week 4 so far, which this is the only thing I've been working on from the time I wake up until the time I sleep pretty much. Excited to finish it, hopefully sufficiently. So I can work on adding more content afterwords and a few other projects.

-Made clouds slightly more transparent (Used Lo2k's true clouds as a base to make my changes)
-Higher Resolution Cloud Noise
-Distant Planet Color Adjustments
-Adjustments to the global coloring, now less red
-Landscape fog slight reduction
-Made skies even more clean
-Adjusted rim lighting
-More Level Of Detail Adjustments
-Subtle nebulae
-New Transparent/clean Binocular UI (Thanks to Lo2k for helping me with this file)
-Re-made an instagram filter removal shader in my own way
-Greatly increased the E3 styled Shaders, DOF, Gaussian Blur, and Lensflare effects
-Slight Terrain Adjustments
-Improved FXAA subpixel anti aliasing
-The core mod now contains a version of space that I altered, which is dark; but not fully black and has space clouds but nebulae. The space dream mod by Lo2k still works (included in the space dream folder as an optional replacement if you would an alternate version)
- E3 Style Glowing Cubes that visibly glow slightly longer and also glow slightly longer underground
- Fog adjustments
- Configured E3 Style Shaders with Dof, Gaussian Blur, and Lensflare adjustments

- I overhauled all of the creature animations. All creatures also have their own sizes, scales and movement speeds.
- I split all creatures into several variations, uncommon, rare, and common
- Adjusted Rainforest Rodent Spawn Rate
- Adjusted Rainforest Butterfly Spawn Rate
- Adjusted Rainforest Glowbug Spawnrate
- Walkers and drones can now spawn underwater; but rare
- Slight predator increase
- Re-added missing rare cave drones and cave quads
- Roaming sentinel size and spawn adjustments (more rare and can vary in size)
- Underwater Predator Group Alterations and Spawn adjustments depeneding upon day or night
- A lot of creatures are restricted to lush biomes, but now all, and I will soon link certain things to custom biome types. For eg, Oria V creatures will only spawn in the Oria V biome.
- Even less overhwelming amounts of creatures (creature discovery should be more special)
- Added mountain quadrupeds
- Added mountain prehistoric creatures
- Added rare Oria V Rhinos that Roar. (Still working on making them kill-able, and also for them to attack you, and potentially knock down trees)
- Walkers that give wanted level can occasionally appear on dead only biomes (varying depending upon the day)
*Only two can spawn in a group at a time here, and they aren't constantly all over the place (leaving the beauty of the biome itself without being too crowded). Shooting sentinels (even randomly roaming ones) now can give you a wanted level.
- Caves can be more dangerous. Chances of spiders, rare drones, and rare quadrupends (Varying depending upon the biome type and time of day)
- More underwater wildlife on certain biome types and slightly more predators
- Adjusted Life Chances again (to prevent overwhelming amounts of creatures that were still around on certain biome types)
- Lots and lots more
- Added All Oria V Creatures and made them rare + Linking to specific biome types based upon rules.```

I see, that may be possible. I'll have to look into it. The files that I hate working with the most are the UI files. Making an E3 styled inventory required me to work my way through 11 million lines of xml to get it right.
And to make that E3 HUD properly, I had to hack the executable and created a mini real time HUD editor.
But that's a nice aesthetic to have

I believe that they can adjust it on the screen to their liking and it will auto generate it.

I just got a depth of field working without ReShade or photo mode.(Time to adjust it more) to blend in with E3 style height fog, and other fog density variations depending upon the weather.

When you script it do you still need to search the galaxy until you find one?
Indeed! There's exploration incentive, and a need to travel the galaxy in casual play. I usually force a specific biome to the type I'm making, when making it, for quick handcrafting.
So far... all of the 2016, two alternate 2016 versions, foundation, path finder, atlas rises, Darconia city biomes (added at request), every variation of shaidaka's biomes + custom variations I made of his (used with permission), Civilizations by Redmas (Imported with permission), Unused Biomes by Hello Games, Default Atlas Rises Biomes, and a bunch of other biomes that I custom made is in here right now. Including an unused underwater biome, rare (unused) levelone objects, default levelone object alterations, various rare objects, a cross between 2016 - Path Finder - Atlas Rises spawn density placements, modded building placements , and cave biomes, + a few unused biomes at the moment. + Lots of other good stuff. Every version of No Man's Sky in one.

That's cool, well.. I don't think that you can land on a water planet. But if there's sparsed out islands, you can.

I just found this Frozen Fractal Cube biome that I made a bit over a week ago. This is my legit first time ever seeing it. I also found some other procedural biomes I handcrafted for the first time. 😛
@solar violet why do those clouds look so good? What did you do to them?
@lucid shell It's a cross between Lo2k's true clouds, and some other changes I did to them (alongside other GLSL shader enhancements, and some other things)
Here's a full log of a few "brief" explanations of "some" of the things I did so far, for v10. I'lll release everything publicly as soon as it's fully polished and I'm done making content for it.
@solar violet one of the things that makes NMS clouds look bad is that they seem to be rendered on a 2D plane (I am not referring to the whole planet texture). And when you fly your ship towards them they lose all shape and get weirdly diffused. Is there a way arround this? Also can clouds be rendered from further away (let's say from space)?

Annoying glitch that affects my experience on shuttles and long-necked haulers...

it always happens
its different that the glitch that most people knows anyways
for this is that, everytime you enter the ship, the cockpit would shift to random direction
its quite annoying, therefore restricted the type of ships i would get. It happens to: Shuttles, Long-neck Haulers, Explorer of a type of cockpit, and some Exotics
just to avoid this bug..
doubt so, it doesn't happens to Fighters, Hauler without long neck, Explorer of a type of cockpit

Then they suddenly move very natural and cool
No idea why
And with pretty bad I mean compared to what you saw on original trailers (the old portal trailer specifically)
