Sadly that's one of the problems with NMS is that all ships and freighters (apart from your own) are highly prone to "clipping" through stuff (especially bandits in their ships that decide to hide "inside" the freighter you're trying to protect).
Most likely just a prop @warm summit.

I just remembered it being one of the assets in the game that wasn't used until now. A mod put them in game but I don't know if it suffered from "clipping" issues or stuff.
I don't use mods however.
I'll play with mods when the game is in a more refined state and HG decides to accept them in a non-hacky way (aka switching files around and such).
Personally, I would have loved to see a lot of the other objects/structures used in game (especially those really tall trading stations, so long as they have stairs/elavators to get up/down in case).
That and the trees do need a bit more... I'm not saying better foliage but a bit more of "height" perspective (they mostly look all "the same" height wise).
I know one mod does add more depth to them, keep forgetting the name.
I just hate the idea of using mods that do "hacky" kind of things (namely altering files instead of working like a "overide" styled mod so it doesn't mess with the original assets/files).

My best guess is that they didn't expect you to get 5* agro and survive. Every time it happens, I kill everything and then maintain my alert. When I try to land, thousands of drones spawn and I drop to 12fps. Can't kill them. And whenever I look that way (even from space) everything disappears.
More glitches (sorta) Having a too-tall ship and landing middle/middle of your freighter makes it poke through the floor. Not game breaking but interesting.

a partially underwater base would be really cool btw. i found a building that was in a very shallow pool of water. it didn't go into the building or anything, and you couldn't go under the water, but it was surrounding the building and made splashy noises as you run around in it. if that building was a base, i would've claimed it. then just a little out from the building, the water got deep and there was the ocean.
