Yeah, info on ships is kind of scarce. Even the stat bars for ships in game could be a little more detailed as far as top speed and handling.

i found a neat ship with about 32 slots that was crashed, but almost every upgrade was broken and it was built for trading, not like my ship, which i use for going long distances and fending off pirates
it can take down a pirate in under a second of firing

well, it was high slots low upgrades. i would have to put a lot of work into it to make it how i like

I found a 25 slot fighter that actually had good placement of the components that can't be deleted on a starship (launch thrusters, hyperdrive etc). It was the first time I could link all three hyperdrive and pulse engine companion units to their respective component. I could only stack one deflector shield companion unit, but with my upgrades weapons that's more than enough. This is the 4th ship I've upgraded completely from scratch and honesty even crafting warp drive theta isn't too bad. I just make sure to use my current one to get to a blue star system before looking for a new ship. That way each planet is guaranteed to have either gold or emeril. Also scrap every companion unit you can before switching to a new ship, I believe you get roughly half of the crafting materials back
