@fickle obsidian Nvidia always releases a xx50 Ti model like the 550 Ti, 750 Ti, 1050 Ti, etc. So you'll be able to afford one when they do the next generation. They aren't "awesome" cards, but they're good for basic gaming in medium/high graphics.

I was just reading about a similar thing on the spigot site from a few years ago (2016). Someone with far superior specs was having the same problem, and they were told to pre-generate the world a bit. Apparently that helped them, because it was all the chunk generating that was causing certain players to have higher latency than normal. Especially those with high ping to begin with. So, it's server-side mixed with client side.

(minecraft, like other games, uses a whole bunch of things to ensure the server is "online", namely heartbeat packets)

When I ran my own network, I mitigated this issue by setting a very high internal timeout limit, and then using a load balancer in strategic locations to manage sessions. Of course, I was running a full thing so I could keep people in different regions isolated, but one of your best bets right now would be to increase timeout limits and then, if you can, actually put the server on reliable/real infrastructure.

You're hosting a game server in your basement, on what seems like a general purpose computer. That's pretty much asking for trouble.
