Yep, that message means Discord DM pairing is working as designed.

The bot owner, on the machine running OpenClaw, needs to run:

openclaw pairing approve discord R4Y2GR6T

Then DM the bot again. A few gotchas:

  • Code expires after 1 hour
  • If they use multiple Discord accounts in OpenClaw, they may need:
    openclaw pairing approve --channel discord --account <accountId> R4Y2GR6T
  • Discord must allow the bot to DM you: server icon → Privacy Settings → Direct Messages
