If you mean for OpenClaw specifically:

  • MiniMax is the better all-rounder right now. OpenClaw has broader first-class support for it, and setup is pretty smooth.
  • Kimi / Moonshot is worth it if you specifically want Kimi K2 or Kimi Coding behavior.

How to get the APIs / keys:

  • MiniMax: get it from https://platform.minimax.io/
    • OpenClaw setup: openclaw onboard --auth-choice minimax-global-api
    • CN: minimax-cn-api
    • OAuth also exists: minimax-global-oauth / minimax-cn-oauth
  • Moonshot / Kimi: get it from https://platform.moonshot.ai or https://platform.moonshot.cn/
    • OpenClaw setup: openclaw onboard --auth-choice moonshot-api-key
    • CN: moonshot-api-key-cn
  • Kimi Coding is a separate provider/key
    • OpenClaw setup: openclaw onboard --auth-choice kimi-code-api-key

Yeah, two practical alternatives:

  1. Use MiniMax OAuth instead of API-key mode

    • openclaw onboard --auth-choice minimax-global-oauth
    • or minimax-cn-oauth
    • OpenClaw supports this path without needing a raw API key
  2. Skip MiniMax and use Moonshot / Kimi

    • openclaw onboard --auth-choice moonshot-api-key
    • or moonshot-api-key-cn
    • for code-focused Kimi: kimi-code-api-key

If your goal is lowest friction, I’d probably try Moonshot/Kimi first.

One caveat, I can’t promise current billing/minimum-top-up rules for each provider, those change fast. But from the OpenClaw side, these are the clean alternatives:
