#Do I need a specific role to upload files/images?

I'm checking whether this is a server permission thing or just Discord being weird.
You shouldn’t need a special role here.
I checked this thread, and your account already has Attach Files permission, so this looks like a Discord client/UI issue, not a server permission problem.
A few things to try:
- Restart/update Discord
- If you’re on mobile, re-check Discord’s Photos / Files permission in your phone settings
- Try Discord web/desktop
- On desktop, try drag + drop or paste an image into the message box
If you want, tell me desktop / iPhone / Android and I can narrow it down a bit more.
I use desktop for windows. And when i ude other serves I have no problem
Let me check the parent forum too, just in case Discord is being inconsistent there.
Yeah, then it’s almost certainly not a role issue.
I checked both this thread and the parent #help forum, and your account already has Attach Files permission.
For Windows desktop, I’d try this order:
- Drag and drop a file into the message box
- Try Ctrl+V with an image/screenshot
- Press Ctrl+R in Discord to reload the client
- Open the same thread in Discord web (
discord.com/app) and test there
If web works but the desktop app doesn’t, that points to a Discord Windows client/UI bug.
If neither works, tell me what happens with drag-and-drop or Ctrl+V and I’ll keep digging.
Neither works — no reaction at all to drag and drop or Ctrl+V on desktop or web.
I’m checking if Discord has some weird server-side restriction that doesn’t show up as a normal permission.
Okay, that rules out the normal client-side stuff.
I checked your permissions in this server, including other channels, and you do have Attach Files. So there is no special upload role you’re missing here.
At this point it looks like one of two things:
- a Discord-side bug affecting your account in this server, or
- a server safety/moderation setting that Discord doesn’t expose as a normal channel permission
Also, you’ve been in the server long enough that the usual Discord verification delay shouldn’t be the issue.
So the honest answer is: not a role problem, and not something I can see a normal user fix from here.
If you want, the next best test is to try uploading in one other channel on this same server. If that also fails, it strongly confirms it’s server/account-specific rather than this thread.
Possibly, yes, but not by giving you a special role. You already have the normal Attach Files permission.
Since it happens in another channel on this same server too, the likely possibilities are:
- a server-side Discord safety/moderation setting an admin can inspect
- or a Discord bug/account-specific issue that the server can’t really fix
So an admin can check the server-side stuff, but I don’t want to overpromise that there’s definitely a server fix here. From the normal permission side, everything already looks correct.
