Github of the developer is pretty empty. the recent activity was in Jan in private repo. Even though it's possible to find their linkedin profile and looks genuine, is it worth the risk?

Hi @waxen nova , I have released Version 0.18.55 which addresses the "Can't select remote server" and "Can't return to opening wizard" feedback points. This was super valuable because it made me realize I have some terrible UX on that area. I would really appreciate you trying again and let me know if you encounter anything else. For the "local agent not discovered" point, I'm still digging, I couldn't find the cause yet, It works on my machine 😄

update: v0.18.56 is out with more fixes

  • local agent not discovered (the "it works on my machine" bug is squashed)
  • remote VPS wizard now fully navigable
  • wizard back/reset working

also re: the notarization question earlier from @_ — that's on the roadmap. notarizing requires an Apple Developer account ($99/yr) which i'm setting up. in the meantime you can allow it via System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway after the gatekeeper warning. the source code context and linkedin are both real, but totally understand if you want to wait for the signed build.

@coarse rover , @silent hull . It will work, yes. Currently we're facing an issue with agent discovery, but we're working on it. The goal is to fix it by the end of the weekend. I'll keep you posted

quick update on Tailscale — the agent discovery fix is in and it should work now. if you're connecting via Tailscale, just add your VPS using its Tailscale IP in the server setup. let me know if you hit any issues, happy to help debug

@covert gate AgentPen connects to your OpenClaw gateway over SSH — it doesn't expose any new ports or services. your gateway stays exactly as you've configured it (loopback-only by default). the only surface is the SSH connection itself, which uses your existing key/password auth. nothing phone-home, no cloud relay unless you explicitly set one up in OpenClaw

@plain linden yes, if you've set up tailscale serve on your VPS, just use the Tailscale hostname or IP when adding the server in AgentPen. it'll connect over SSH through the tailnet the same way. works fine as long as your machine is also on the tailnet

Thank you for the feedback @bleak mural ! I'm currently in a weird spot. I don't know if I should continue building it since openclaw no longer works with claude subscription and it pretty much sucks with openAI. I invested quite a lot of time in Agentpen and I'm not sure if it's useful anymore.
