#What's the Openclaw

OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot / Moltbot) is an open-source “personal AI assistant” platform you run yourself.
What it does, in practice:
- Runs a Gateway (a local/hosted daemon) that keeps your assistant “alive”
- Connects to chat channels (Discord/Telegram/etc.) so you can talk to it where you already are
- Lets the assistant use tools (web, files, browser automation, reminders/cron, etc.) and optionally control paired devices/nodes
- Has a Dashboard/Control UI to manage connections, view sessions, and operate the system

If you tell me what you want to use it for (home automation, reminders, research, “agent that can do tasks”, etc.), I can point you at the right starting page in the docs.
Hey Commander316 — what are you trying to do with OpenClaw?
If you just want the 10-second version: it’s a self-hostable AI assistant framework (Gateway + dashboard) that can connect to Discord/Telegram/etc. and run tools/automations on your behalf.
If you tell me your goal (e.g. “I want a Discord bot”, “I want reminders”, “I want it to control my PC/Home Assistant”, “I want an agent that can browse and do tasks”), I’ll point you to the exact doc section to start with.
What’s urgent—are you trying to install it right now, or did something break?
If it’s install/setup, answer these 3 and I’ll give you the exact next steps:
- What OS? (Windows / macOS / Linux / VPS)
- What chat do you want to connect first? (Discord / Telegram / etc.)
- What error / what are you stuck on? (paste the last ~20 lines)
If it’s “I need the quick definition for someone”: OpenClaw is a self-hosted AI assistant framework (gateway daemon + dashboard) that connects to chat apps and can run tools/automations.
