During the demo game, I had a thought: if there is a Yakuza boss in the game, why can't I illegally repair equipment for him? After thinking about the idea, I came up with the following concept for this mechanic:

  1. As you gain trust with the Yakuza boss, you will have the opportunity to illegally repair equipment (repairing equipment that doesn't have a license). Illegal repairs will generate less net profit for the player, but you can make mistakes during the repair process (such as not cleaning the dust everywhere or not replacing the broken case, etc.).
  2. When the player repairs the equipment without a license, they will need to close the shutters and turn off the lights, as if they are blue in the open, a police officer may appear and take the equipment, as well as issue a fine.

To riff on this a bit, what about doing modifications to equipment. Everyone knows about PS1 mod chips. But you could also do things like adding a light to a GBA or breaking the tabs off of an N64 cartridge slot to make the system play US/JP games depending on the model.

Jailbreaking systems is what i was thinking as well. Roms and emus might be pushing the bounds of safe to put in a game though 😄
