But in Vietnam, even more in Thailand, they only accept cash or QR payments. These QR payments only work with Vietnamese (and Thai) banks. In Thailand it's not possible to open a bank account as a tourist, and apparently you can do it at one bank in Vietnam, so I will try that. It would be funny if I could finally pay with QR, because sometimes it's quite convenient if you don't have enough cash or don't want to spend cash

it's quite odd. the smallest street vendor will not accept card but they will always have a picture of a QR code so everyone just pays each other using their phone, but us tourists have to use cash

But I really dislike Hanoi so to go all the way back up for that section would probably be wasteful; it’d take more than a day by train or a flight to Hanoi. If I fly I’d end up in Ninh Binh, meaning I’d probably have to go back to Hanoi to fly out of there anyway

yes, twice a day, but it's not super convenient to cross into Thailand because my plan is literally to go the other direction, into China

#

but I will definitely 100% one day, I only have to go from Laos to Thailand or vice versa, maybe next year. Thailand 100% is way more of a challenge because Thailand actually has branch lines and junctions. They have a proper network. Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam basically only have one or two railway lines and they all originate from the capital city
