#Ragins Train Sets
1 messages Β· Page 20 of 1
ah
couldn't tell cause I've ran with JP+ with auz's rails for its catenary's and depots
(seriously, Auz's rail set is the only one with a proper roundhouse depot)
Fair fair, its my normal go to
But I've been playing more with JP+
Also
Dual mode version? π€
women only want one thing and it's disgusting
I guess I need to genderbend myself then
I suppose that's one way to do it lmao
π
We can handle it.
Sure we can.
It's got a hole in it lol (I know it's meant to be there)
at least the front didn't fall off
but yh, that's tonights test done
I'll properly code it on the weekend sometime
coding these seems like it'll be a bit of hassle since it'll need both a 9 and 10 long template
Yeah I mean there's the DDA40X and then the DD35A and DD35B (or just DD35 as it was originally known, originally made cabless as a booster for the GP35)
yee, what I'm doing here is the DD35 and DD35A just to test
but once I've done these, doing the DD40 and others will be easy
tbf they're just long version of normal locomotives, so it'll be easy anyway
yeah
but the templates will be useful for some of the other daft steam units later on down the track
true
but tbf, there aren't that many super long locomotives in Australia (which I wanna work on first)
fair
only exception would be the AD60, but the central section isn't that long anyway
either way I could do with more options for 1900-1930
soooooooon
your NA stuff picks up pretty well from aboit 1920/1930 so plugging the gap with some aussie stuff would be A-OK to me
I'll have more time to practice steam locomotive wheny my contract ends on the 19th
remind me when you start getting around to it I'll port over the purchase menu changes to the aussie sets.
fair fair
I could do some NA steam locomotives, but I still need to research them
sure, but I'm probably just gonna restart the Australian stuff
I'm gonna have to redraw all the sprites anyway
at least for the locomotives
keeeeen
I donβt get these messages, was there an aussie reference?
You'll have to be more specific lol
This⦠and the messages nearby
I was referencing the slogan on the union pacific loco haha
Oops
we must become more incomprehensible
Fucken oath, I'll pop down to the servo to grab a sanga and some durries, then crack a uey to the bottlo to get some stubbies
fuck up cunt
Hello guys
Hi
lazy day, but I suppose I should draw the GP35 before doing the DD35
also tomorrows my last day working for the shire, which will be good
Hmmm
I wonder if the e60 will be in any future grfs cus the only one that currently have it is the old us train one
The E60 is in a lot of GRFs: 2cc trainset, NARS, and I'm pretty sure Ragin's done it or plans to do it

Hi. I'm Sam, a railfan based out of Eastern Massachusetts. I film trains from all around the world and make narrated videos explaining how the railroad works. Thanks for watching and I'll see you out on the mainline...
Good to see that Amtrak's equipment is finally get the modern 21st century upgrade it needs
Hopefully VIA Rail here is soon to follow
A lot of their equipment is as old if not older than Amtrak's
well I've already done the passenger version
I just haven't been bothered to do either of the freight versions
Easy, just chop off a cab π
the cab designs are diffrent. Count the windows
But this likely does not matter in such smol scale
Since you make the template of DD35, you could use them to make the planed PRR DDR Concept Electric one, the engine cab and design is virtually a DD35 dual-cab electrificated one, to be use along Horseshoe Curve, but the plan as cancelled as PRR and NYC became the PennCentral...
Oooooh
are there any references for that?
actually iirc it's on my list
Yee, already got it π
could do it...
That thing looks daft. I love it.
I love that youve already got so many prototypes and proposed locos that you can basically larp βwhat if America but differentβ
yeah
legit finding these prototypes is one of my main excuses for doing openttd stuff lmao
Yee, already got them on the list :3
looks better than the final design
Ooooo thats cool to know
Wait do you have this on the bucket list im just wondering
thats probably why they rejected it
plus it looks a tad soviet
Just realized that the name little joe was shortened as the original name was the little Joseph stalin
On the steam list yh, but thats not being worked on atm
Ooooo thats good to know
I've been dying to see it in game
Well it probably won't be for a long while yet
I wanna focus on my Australian stuff soon anyway
Sure take your time
on the USSR State Railroads these were ment to be called Class A electric locomotive
A of course means American
And manufacturers designation is 2-D+D-2 406/546 8-GE 750-3300V
MILW classed these as EP-4 and EF-4 depanding on the presence or lack of equiptment to heat coaches
whaaaaat?
It looks like NSB (Norway) MUs
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/ff/NSB_Class_73_near_DombΓ₯s_4.jpg
borders russia, close enough
Seprate machineroom coach in the middle of the set
Stadler approved π
stadler hate this design wdym
Stadler seems to be the biggest manufaturer of DMUs with this construdion layout....
Let's salute the ticket inspectors who have to walk through the machineroom with roading diesels on both sides of the corridor to check tickets in the 2nd half of the train π«‘
isn't it a raised floor over the engine?
in FLIRT type the machine room is wider than the passenger coaches
I've been on stadler sets in Europe, some are a narrow corridor, some are raised floor
so dull and dark in there
hardly see a thing
It is an walkway through an mid-train machineroom
What were You expecting?
some lights at least
at least the electric version does not have this
at least ours have lights
electric
I mean OHLE, not batterries
still electric
indeed
I think that combined batterry+OHLE MUs are the best solution for partially electrified regional lines
nah bi mode it
on longer lines (long distance, interregional) loco-hueled sets with loco change can work good
but each loco change takes some time
π€
just put 3rd rail down everywhere
OHLE is better
as it operates on higher voltages it gives more power
more power == more powerfull motors and higher speeds
you dont get thrash then
3rd rail electrocutes dumbasses who stand on it
generally by batterry + OHLE I mean an MU that can charge it's batterries on the move, whan under wires
so not an OHLE train with the word battery written on it?
batterry power on non-electrified lines
OHLE power on lines with OHLE
With juce going both to the motors and to the batterry to charge it on the go
oh yeah, i forgot how you like to explain everything to others as if they're a sped
just synced my fork, yessssss DD35... Okay it's only one view but still :3
tbf it'll be easy to finish :3333
got most of my weekend work done, so I might finish it tonight
it's pretty much just a GP35 with another motor grafted onto the arse of it right?
pretty much
its why I drew the GP35, although I didn't code it
I should probably code that actually
Yeah I've had a pretty slack weekend. Yesterday I was wiped, slept all day, was awake then til like 7pm then fell asleep again
sounds fun
Not really lmao
I had a party last night so I feel rough
heh
you socialite you
I haven't been to a proper party in years
everything goes downhill when you get into your thirties
tbf they can be a lot, and I'm not that social lmao
you just wanna be in bed asleep by 9pm
I suppose, but we'll see
tbf I'm like that now lmao
women only want one thing
side view looks alright, so running through and finishing it should be straight forward
yeah, I love it so much
I like electric locos instead
Hello, have you drawn the EMD G12? Just curious :p
No, but I will at some point
Good to know :p
I was in a train pulled by one yesterday thinking about how many of them there are, they got exported everywhere
Yee
Its why they're high on my priority list
Australia/NZ combined also imported all 3 major variants of them too
okay been working through code stuff
got some cool stuff to show off tonight
ya'll are gonna be eating good
DELICIOUS
π
YOOOOOO
GP35 and the DD35 gonna make it as well? Honestly can't wait to use them. I need to get a save up to the 1960's first though lmao
though I honestly can't wait to start using the triple and quad boxcabs
tbh assuming I'm in the mood, I'll probably have the GP35, DD35A/B and Little Joes done by tonight
I'm just testing things to get myself familiar with the code
the DD35A is gonna be the most difficult, but it should be somewhat straightforward
Oh yeah that's probably more intelligent
also it helps people who don't know how to compile it
Yeah, changed your batch file to copy instead of move?
I do the same in my repos, I just leave the raw .grf and the combined .nfo file from the .pnfo's if people want to tinker/play without dicking around with make and GCC (not that much dicking around is required but still)
green and gold looks very patriotic for my alt history australia
Fuck they look so good in game
Oh hell yeah
tbf AN basically considered something similar in the 60s...
Clyde offered then a twin 645 locomotive for the trans-australian service
but it would have had a bulldog nose
god pair of gp35's with two DD35's in the middle looks so good
So they look fine going around corners. Little bit of clipping with tunnel portals and depots but not an outrageous amount
You done good
thanks
yeah, not too much I can do about that iirc
It's fine. There's clipping glitches even in vanilla OpenTTD with bridges and trains and wires occasionally. I think it's just a reality of the game tbh. It's not especially egregious.
yee, it's why I'm not too fussed
Well the good news is with big behemoths like the DD35A and the DDA40X after it taken care of you're pretty much on track to do something similar for the steam locomotives like the Big Boy, the locomotive itself is only 26m not counting the tender
Could easily do that as a 10/8 sprite in the same fashion then do an 8/8 or 6/8 tender
yee, although tbf the code side of steam locomotives is the easy part
Main body would be about the same size as the DD35A yeah
Yeah I don't envy having to draw the sucker. That said, you've got the NARS sprites to work off too.
yee, I've got a fair bit of references
I might be being a bit of a muppet but I can't get the newgrfs I downloaded from your github to show up in game? Only the older versions (CNALP, CNAPs and NARP) from bananas are there or not there at all in the case of the wagons (NARPWP). Delete the older downloads and there is nothing. JGRPP 68.2 and usually smarter than your average bear lol
iirc it should be a case of deleting the old ones
but they all have a higher version number so openttd shouldn't be having any issues
also
π€
not realated to any american stuff, but now that I have the code for the DD35, doing the A32D should be easy too
omg EMD F50CM
it was only a AC testbed built on a SDP40F
but it can go in the misc roster
probably needs a bit more tweaking, but the GP39 in the ATSF livery is done
gonna quickly run through and do the SDL39 now
ASTF cowl units for passenger trains done?
well if you're refering to the FP45, yeah
I would not be suprised if thay had a couple of serieses of cowl units
SDL39 done
basically just a GP39 with a C-C wheel arrangement and slightly different radiator setup
Super weird, thats how I thought it would work. Anyway, I downloaded the whole repository instead of the individual files and now the copied newgrfs are working. Sprites are banging, huge fan of the Oceania sets so looking forward to this pack!
The DD35's in their diesel glory.... they look fantastic. (I added a tiny invisible wagon between them so I could see your artistry better! Tankers are from NARS, extra CC colours too).
reporting from the JP+ server, maybe we could have Montreal Metro for a future update
I really should do my own tankers at some point...
Its on the cards ;3
also now that I think about it, the GG1 was 24m long, so I should probably redo it as 9 long
otherwise it's out of scale with everything else
also quickly did the EF-3B, since it's just an EP4 with slightly different vents
I've got a handful of locos I wanna do today to finish things up, so we'll see how many I get done
GG1 fixed with an R1 for comparison
Might be worth softening those yellow lines on the locomotives with some more shading, they're a touch stark
yee, but it'd require a little more re-working than I'd be wanting to do
I'm trying to make the livery such that they work with other stuff, alongside the actual livery, and changing the tone of CC2 would potentially break that
DDR 6700 done
that's why it's so expensive π
but yh, there's only limited info on this
interestingly the blueprint show it with a steam boiler? so I'm guessing this was more mixed traffic?
but I've just done it as a heavy freight locomotive
oh neat!
Wow this rules
Have you done any other PRR electrics
Horse steam and Ragins electrics meet π
those are some nice pixels
Got a little mountain route that bridges some marshland in a valley, used a GE Z-1-A to do the climb back up the mountain
pretty much all of them iirc
that looks really good
I got some catching up to do
The roster is impressive now. Freight wagons really does still need something like Horse to flesh it out, and 1900-1920 is a bit barren until Ragin draws some kettles
but from 1920 onwards it's a smorgasbord
tbf there's 6 locomotives, that's plenty π

I want more new train grf on the online content on mobile

Ok, that will be 11,50. Do you want some soda with that?
The prr did have some "creative" minds
Yes pls
Ok y'all heard of the little joes
Now how about the bigger joes
What does mobile have to do with it? Online content is the same
Well some grf isn't available on mobile so can't play certain sernarios
It has nothing to do with mobile. Either your game version is too old, or they're not on there at all and you need to get them manually.
Anyway this is not the place for it
Okie
so, if the smaller one was an Joe, this would be the Tzar
Or maybe this would have been the Saint Joseph ? π
More like a Ho-Ho
π
it seems to have 2 subframes, with 4 bogeys each
Likely bogeys 2,3 and 6 and 7 are mounted the way thay can svivel sideways
tiny joe
Pmotors redone using the 9 template
also the codes redone so hopefully... doing liveries for these should be a lot simpler
will need to do the same for some other locomotives, but that's a future me problem
also I hope everyone's christmas went well
mine was interesting to say the least...
so I'm gonna draw some trains to get my mind of it
I've got a few I wanna get through today, and some more code cleaning up that needs to be done
Iβm in Hay, Iβve driven like 600-700km today
I was two states away this morning
you're really just driving out into the middle of nowhere lmao
Yeah Adelaide this morning, Dubbo tomorrow probably, then straight to Brisbane.
Maybe Narrabri
Depends how many Kβs I wanna drive
I wanna be home Sunday evening regardless
rip, I don't envy that
NH EP-3s done
more boxcabs for the boxcab gods
also these new swamps look really good
I need to set up a new game just to see more of them
NH boxcab with... CN coaches?
I didn't have any NH coaches :3
New haven EP-2s done
now for the Milwaukee's EP-3s
also it's funny for a locomotive this big, they only produce 2000hp
Americans seem to have a thing for giant vehicles that make no power at all
just realised there are only 21m long, so they should be on the 8 template...
Even the locomotives had a malaise era π
I love big boxcabs
more boxcabs for the boxcab gods π
wanna hear an joke?
What is it
Big bloxy, black, technologically obosolite in the moment it was designed, slow, smokes a lot, consumes a lot of electricity and cuts carrots into 5 pices?
||Romanian build machine for cutting carrots into 4 pices||
What
I heard about the Soviet one that cuts apples into pieces
Seems like the script is the same
low energy for locomotives today, and I cbf doing freight wagons
Fair
so I might finally get around to adding voltages to electric locomotives
π
also while I'm at it, I'm gonna modify my stuff to match JP+ better
based
so now the track type colours and naming schemes will match JP+ tracks, which I think is a nice feature
but dont get too dccaught up in trying to match another set instead of making stuff xddd its not so fucn xd
ohhhh
I should kitbash with sprites for my trainset
It's a pain in the arse drawing everything by hand
Just need to replicate Andy's Polar Fox somehow
well you're more than welcome to steal from me
tbf most of my sprites I kitbash myself to make new stuff
I just realised
I can use a lot of UKRS/IH assets for Indian locos
The steam locos in particular
yee, it's an option
done the electric locomotives now, it's gonna be an issue if you play with only this set and intend on using DC locomotives, because this is your entire selection
iirc the joes are probably the last DC locomotive introduced into service in the US?
Everything fails back if youβre not running seperate AC/DC?
That EP-3 is yuuuuuuuge
absolutley not >:/
works fine, just still says the actual OHLE type it uses
Oh no, oh bother, I guess Iβll just have to turn on both electric tracks in JP+ tracks π
I could change that... but I think it's fine
Yeah that actually looks perfectly fine tbh
Flavour text tells you what it is, rails themselves say AC/DC
JP+ is the same, the locos fall back to ELRL if narrow gauge or voltages aren't available, but the description doesn't change
Also narrow gauge when
well I do wanna do a north american narrow gauge set at some point, but that's a future me problem
Iβm playing meandering islands again and I wanna make one of the main islands be narrow gauge just to be difficult to myself
as for Australian stuff, I'm still unsure how I'd wanna do it
I think for Australian narrow gauge, I'm gonna keep everything as standard gauge unless I can find a reasonable way to do it
Well thereβs three main gauges for Australia π
But honestly you could probably just lump broad gauge SA stuff in with standard and let the banana benders be special
I could, but there's the concern of multi-gauge stuff
That's probably what I'd do too, there's plenty of narrow gauge stuff in WA and NZ too
like there are some QR locomotives that were converted for standard gauge, and some SAR/NSW locomotives converted to narrow gauge
so idk what to do with those
the only reasonable solution would be to just re-code them again as narrow gauge, but that's not a great solution imo
Just have them as separate vehicles, it's the easiest way by far
Duplicate them and have a slightly different livery?
I suppose
but it's also why I brought up that purchase idea with multiple track types in the add on dev channel
since it would give a lot more flexibility without much more code
That's a very niche problem and unlikely to be fixed in GRF, to be honest
Yeah I wouldnβt worry about that, just duplicate the suckers and maaaaybe do a unique livery for them.
well I'll think about it then
lemme arrange my spreadsheet with gauge to see what's required then
if it's not too much, I'll see if I can split it
Iβm happy to do some grunt work if you can work out what IDβs you wanna allocate etc etc
Iβve also gotta do the purchase sprite alignment work on the Oceanian stuff at some point
Or were you going to recode that from scratch?
I'm probably just gonna re-do it from scratch tbh
Fair
I'm gonna have to re-do all the sprites anyway
so it's not gonna be much more work
Yeah the good thing is youβve got all your templates etc in the NA stuff now
yee
tbh running through and doing new sprites for the Australian stuff should be really easy anyway
since I have so much reference material from the NA set too
But yeah happy to do some data processing on narrow gauge if you can let me know what you want
That spreadsheet on the github?
it's not, but you can find it here
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Fj6Y5M03zOG2wjGIkY0y61pFTRm4pEQkCMxz0FVdcgI/edit?usp=sharing
I'm just going through now and doing it
it shouldn't take too long since already know what gauge most locomotives are off the top of my head anyway lmao
How about the yank stuff? They didnβt have a lot of narrow gauge off the top of my head
basically none post 1970
it's why there'd be no point including that info in that roster
I've got a separate doc containing info on US narrow gauge, but it's not been converted to a spreadsheet yet
most of their stuff was a mix of 3ft 6in and 3ft gauges
Yeah youβd just mix that all together
Not functionally different enough
And yeah, was mostly over by ww2 so itβd mostly be steam and some early diesels
Shayβs are pretty important if talking about early steam in the US though
So in other words itβs in the fuck it bucket til you get around to steam π
pretty much
it's future me's problem
priority is gonna be Australian steam anyway
Nice
Either way I play a mixed roster so Australian steam still scratches that 1900-1920 itch π
yeeee
Don't forget about these
of course π
iirc they're on my Australian roster as something to copy across
I've been marking my spreadsheets to indicate trains that are relevant to other sets
https://www.thedieselshop.us/White_Pass.HTML bit of info on the White Pass & Yukon stuff here
Heh, those were repainted green and gold as well, everyoneβs copying my normal TTD livery π
Iβve been using dark green and white a lot lately as well
Should probably do group liveries
RGBCC patch when
god please
that would make me so happy π
that and CC3/CC4
Peter did just merge desert rocks though so thatβs gonna be nice. Should make my rock .grfβs for JGRPP redundant once that merges
But yes it would be nice if RGBCC got merged.
Though I think it was HSLCC to be more accurate
is there somewhere I could find more info on it?
i didn't know it was an actual proposal
Yeah Peter had a branch and a PR at one stage, not sure what ended up blocking it but there was some pissing and moaning from some obnoxious multiplayer sorts that people could get confused with similar CCβs even though thereβs no restrictions on group liveries π
well that's annoying
not really a reason to reject it, especially because it opens up so many more oppurtunities
I donβt think that was the βblockerβ though
ah fair
okay so going through my list, there are 29 locomotives that were built for multiple gauges (I could have missed 1 or 2 though)
the vast majority are Broad/Standard
if you filter it down to just Standard/Broad and Narrow, then it goes down to 8 (but 1 is just a cab variant)
I wonder if we could twist @frigid drum's arm to make broad gauge rails for JP+ tracks or its future international variant π
they're going to murder me I know it
look, if they do it, it'll save me doing it myself π
I might while I'm at it split everything by gauge at the ID stage for future compatability
Yeah, plan ahead
I guess the good thing is that if you skip broad guage entirely you're only missing out on relatively few locomotives, suburban shit from SA and a few poxy little regional vic railroads. All the freight and interstate passenger carrying trains were standard gauge.
true
but still, I'll build in broad gauge into the Id allocations so I can include broad gauge in future
Also I might as well add gauge info to even my north american stuff if only so the extra details are consistent
It's a functional patch (this is an old version which is why the GUI is a mess)
oooooh, that would be really cool if it were added
Yes, hopefully someday
CN Z-5-a?
also I am pretty sure that you can add some more AC units
SW1200MG
if you want more DC locos you would likely have to go flip through lists of industral locos
the weird and fascinating world of industral railways...
GE 125t?
Kennecott Copper GE 125-tonner 402 on display at the Oquirrh Mountain Mining Museum βo the Deseret Peak Complex Here is a photo before the new paint job: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=254898&nseq=9
it apears that 125ton was an generic designation of various types...
Electric bogaloo
One of 2 bo-bo-bo electric locomotives in the us
I want to use this grf on mobile tbh
maybe... I do wanna do them and they wouldn't be that hard
but this week is also going to be busy for me so we'll see what I can do
also been playing sega rally again, and the safari stages make me wanna do an african train set again...
heheheh
time for tropic refurbishment set to return
that had a bunch of african trains in it
Great thing with how your sets are is you can just have an offshoot with a few engines in it and complement with the others or Horse to fill out a playable roster.
yee, that'd be the plan
and a lot of African stuff would be re-used from the Australian set
but... Australia/NZ first, and steam locomotives too
Steam locomotives in that style would be interesting
well I'd just be copying Iron horses style
how about...
kit bashing steam and diesel sprites into some diesel-hydraulic siderod-type shunters?
Those types of shunters were never common in North America or Oceania
also they just never existed
there really wouldn't be any reason to combine a steam-diesel powertrain
also been looking at railways in Thailand and they have some neat stuff
I think he means stuff like that #1019109703453790298 message
they've got an electic mix of boxcabs that all look like they'd belong in Australia
yee, Malaysia has lots of cool stuff too
tbh i'm surprised more south-east asian stuff didn't make it into 2cc trains back in the day
ah yeah fair
Tinny wanted to make south-east Asian stuff if JP+ were ever to be completed
do it, or I will π
South America, Africa, or South East Asia are the 3 regions I'm trying to decide between focusing on next
We'll see who gets there first π
:)
tbf I have been looking into doing an updated version of 2cc trains again
I found a spreadsheet with all the previous content and I've been sorting it out
I've also been going through and identifying what stuff I can copy from sets I've already done
with how fast I can draw trains, it's probably doable...
it also lets me cover a few of the regions I want to, without dedicating all my effort into a specific set
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) (lit.β'Malayan Railway Limited'; Jawi: ΩΨ±ΩΨͺΨ§Ϊ€Ω ΨͺΨ§ΩΩ Ω ΩΨ§ΩΩ Ψ¨Ψ±ΨΨ―β) or colloquially referred to simply as KTM, is the main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia. The railway system dates back to the British colonial era, when it was first built to transport tin. Previously known as the Fede...
goofy ass thing
but also, if any of you wanna look at my spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vnk6-x1mOb2-fPq3FrOk2TPbE96qZwj5x-SEoMiFPOc/edit?usp=sharing
I add things to it occasionally
I've become a bit too obsessed with spreadsheets lmao
prism
actually looking through the 2cc roster, there wasn't anything from south east asia in there
seems like a weird region to skip
There isn't much but there are a few Indonesian locos
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) (lit.β'Malayan Railway Limited'; Jawi: ΩΨ±ΩΨͺΨ§Ϊ€Ω ΨͺΨ§ΩΩ Ω ΩΨ§ΩΩ Ψ¨Ψ±ΨΨ―β) or colloquially referred to simply as KTM, is the main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia. full Gronk! grf?
Oops! All Gronks!
every English Electric 350hp 0-6-0?
it'd make a fun game at some point
Huh, the Indonesian locos are under the Oceania region for some reason
but yh, if I were to do a new version of 2cc I'd wanna focus on locos that were sold to multiple regions first if anything
like these KTM Class 20s were also sold to Egypt and Rhodesia/Zimbabwe
so that's 3 countries knocked out with on loco
tbh a new 2cc roster could be made better through adding a few more select locos
tbf I guess it's oceania, depends where you draw the border
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ebrg16/20328825414 basically class 37
12SVT (1,500 hp) Class 20 Co-Co Diesel Electric built by English Electric for Malayan Railways. This design was the first main line diesel loco to be introduced to Malaya, in 1957. A total of 26 locomotives were delivered, and immediately took over the principal express services, and could also be seen on freight. The class is now out of servic...
My thought exactly, I originally wanted to have multi-region locos too but that was rejected
any particular reason?
The coder didn't want to, that's all
when I was looking at the 2cc roster, there were a lot of odd choices that felt weird
liek the F40PH being in Panama, and the C30-7 in Estonia
that's why some of my locos ended up in weird regions
which feels dumb, like it'd be better to have more unique locos for those countries
strange
The 2cc set had a lot of wierd conflicting ideas lol
a lot of the locos were drawn just fo fill perceived gaps in an era and region
KTM class 22 design also went to Congo https://www.flickr.com/photos/124446949@N06/50406116777
yeah, it feels like the roster wasn't very well thought out
2CC, but with badges? π
I'll probably keep tinkering with it in the background, but I feel like I know where to go with it
especially now that I'm more experienced drawing/coding and researching obscure trains
It wasn't, people basically added whatever they felt like drawing
yee, perfect candidate then π
sure π
that'd do it
but yh, gonna work on this more later, I've been addicted to sega rally because I'm stuck in 2010
priority is North America and Oceania anyway
steam locomotives too
I need to keep on track lmao
Hehe, the 2cc trainset also feels very 2010 to me
that's the main trainset I used back then
yee, so it could use an update
also if only to bring the graphics more in line with what we expect today
No need to redo every useless engine
and gauge/voltage support would be great to havve
yee, now that I know how to do it, it's something worthwhile including
still have to work out how to do the gauge stuff first
but... I'll be doing that with the Oceanian stuff regardless
i love the way it looks
wait an moment
You are going to remake the 2cc?
it's a consideration
neat idea
but generally a few questions
- a lot of locos were used in numerous countries/railways
I think that these should have thair start date as date of start of operation in the first operator?
But the name? Factory designation? (These are ususally less known than railroads designations...) - The roaster should be adjusted for good gameplay value, so at any point of gameplay you have locos/MUs for all categories/classes/services no matter what regions do You use
- Technical parameters balance, ESPECIALLY passenger carrying stock, as diffrent countries have diffrent norms for amount of standing passengers / squere meter
yee, those are all things to be considered
I find it funny how there's vnr coaches but not a single vnr engine to pull em
They call me 007
0 new trains drawn
0 showers since christmas
7 angry emails to the landlord about getting the hot water fixed
I guess today's theme is gonna be smelly locomotives
I should do more ALCOs lmao
it very much is π«
also tangent, but I just noticed that in the EMD catalogue, locomotive names are displayed as "SD-38", while everywhere else they're displayed as "SD38"
guessing EMD did this for a bit, then dropped it later
the current catalogue lists it as the "SD70ACe"
I have a terrible idea...
DD90MAC with ~12,000hp?
Yes!
onto the goober list it goes...
At this point i think you might need to break your landlords water heater
well I don't know his address π
tbf it's also been the real estate (who's managing the property) that has been shitty
I emailed the landlord directly and he immediately replied lmao
my time living in rentals and working as a town planner has radicalised me against real estate agents I stg
Well
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
ALSO YESSSSSSSSS
Real estate agents are literally the devil. Mine hasn't been too bad though here in brisbong
They gave us a newsletter email before christmas with their closure times and a dedicated maintenance companies number for any issues lol
:3
yh, they did that for a us too
they just don't check it until they get back, which raises the point of why have the emergency email there in the first place!
but legit in my work as a planner, the amount of dumb shit real estate agents say/do is frustrating
so many of them seem to think they're planners too, despite not being qualified, and give people the worst advice
like telling someone if they buy a property they could subdivide it (despite it being too small), or telling someone that the property is fine with no issues (despite an easement under the house, or the house not being approved and being constructed in a zone that doesn't permit houses)
I've only been a working planer for a year and I have so many stories of me having to clarify to people that their real estate agent lied to me that it's genuinely concerning
Ever had a cold shower?
Theyβre quite nice
I have and it was not nice
its hot over there at the moment no?
yeah, but the water that comes out my taps is really cold
not sure why, but at my parents place it comes out warm in the summer
ive only ever had one cold shower that i enjoyed and it was after a full hour or more of an extremely intense game of ultimate frisbee in the middle of the summer
Huh
I just realized the only steam loco that has a stop speed of over 62 mph in the 2cc narrow gauge trainset is the sar class 25
Cold showers in summer are good
I Want to play a game only if the goober designs. How much of theses designs are made too?
none, I've only done the side view as an experiment
but actually completing them wouldn't be hard
sooooooon
Have the bastards fixed your hot water yet?
I legit would stay with family or at a hotel if i was in your position
Being unable to wash with hot water sounds like a sensory nightmare
oh yh they fixed it this morning lmao
turns out emailing the landlord directly and not going through the real estate is how you get things fixed
also I'm kinda curious, I wonder how many unqiue locomotives I've done for NARP so far...
I reckon around 70
it's 148
oh no...
I should really look into integrating badges...
happy new year goober
You too nerd
Happy new year to everyone also any big goobers ?
okay so first test works well
I'm gonna have two different track labels that I'll use
so for locomotives that are multiple gauges (like this GM class). There will be a standard gauge variant that's the default, and a broad gauge version that appears only if you have a corresponding track type
for locomotives that are a single gauge, if that track type isn't available, then they'll automatically fallback to being standard gauge
so stuff like the A class will still be available, despite them only ever being built for broad gauge
there are some edge cases that were only narrow/broad, but iirc there's only one
also there's a little bit of a difference between a full size GM class and the narrow gauge wagons in horse lmao
creating a list of Australian/NZ steam locomotives, and I've noticed that a certain track gauge is over represented when it comes to tank locomotives
tank locomotives for days
koninchewa....
Well yes
Nz had a ton of tank locos
What?
it means good morning in Japanese
I just wrote this, becouse the lit ^^^ is mostly composed of 1067mm locos
and 1067 is the track gauge used in Japan
i don't think that means anything in any language
New Zealand is fully 1067β¦
The states of Western Australia and Queensland are mostly 1067mm as well
First county I think of when someone mentions 1067mm is New Zealand
Had 1067 before Japan infact
I suppose now v15 is out, I should update my NARP stuff on Bananas...
I'm gonna have to update the MU pack actually...
hnnnng
I find it funny how the 2000 class has 2 motors instead of 1 motor and 1 coach
which 2000 class? I'm also not sure what you mean?
This 2000 class the jumbos
They look neat
every time I see the trains here in qld they just look like cute little chibi trains
coming from a broad gauge state to fucking narrow gauge
I never actually looked into this now that I think about it do they still use different gauges over there or is it standardized
god no
three main gauges
broad gauge runs all of SA's suburban rail network, and parts of rural victoria. Standard gauge is used for most inter-state freight, and vic and nsw I believe is all standard gauge. QLD is all narrow gauge and some rare standard gauge freight coming in from interstate
I don't know what happens in WA and I don't care.
Plot twist it's a fourth different gauge
sounds like something they'd do
QLD also has like 600mm super narrow gauge sugarcane trains
but those are local railways
nods
Does anyone?
Melbourne suburban is all broad gauge too
Perth suburban is mostly narrow gauge but most regional/long distance lines are standard
ah interesting, I though it was only vic regional that was broad
like little local lines or something
Vic was all broad gauge originally but some lines have been converted to standard
okay MU code heavily updated to take advantage of a lot more sprite stacking, still got some tweaks I wanna do, but this would make doing MUs easier. Also they now respond to being on/off the OHLE
pretty much. There's been plans to convert more of the regional lines, but they've all faultered
What i mean is that the sprite shows both of them having power cars
All of that stuff is incredibly old and going to get redone entirely.
the only current stuff is the North American stuff and that's not on bananas yet
Oh yh that'll be fixed
Cool
retweaked the single MU code, so now we're using sprite stacks
love single coach ohle units
also removed the "can_attach_wagon" control, so now you can do what you want, plus they automatically lower their pantographs when off the overhead line
they're so cool π
Also the DD1 code seems to have broken despite me not touching it for months?
okay turns out I broke the 5 template lmao, fixed now
Could have been me, I was screwing with the templates remember
Are you using the random flip flag for these?
nah, reverse probability
Yeah that's what I meant, I think
That's the way to do it these days :)
yee π
also applying for jobs rn, and I finally applied for that one that Deutsche Bahn keeps spamming me with
and they seem to like switching from english to german mid application which is fun...
but that's done, so more trains
slowly tweaking the MU pack a bit, code and everything should be good to go.
I'm gonna focus on a smaller selection to remaster solely because I'm not super bothered to focus on MUs atm
Yeah I often find MU's to get a bit samey after a while
I liked NARS MU's because there weren't many of them and they were usually all super different to each other
yeee...
tbh I'm probably not gonna do too many, and I'll focus on unique ones
but long term I'll aim to have a plethora
that said, NARS had the TTDPatch engine limits, whereas you've gone m a x i m a l i s t
I'm close to Openttds engine limit with the locomotive set π
also you really are doing everything you can to avoid drawing steam locos aren't you π
no.... I'm just trying to get NARP ready to go
I expected v15 to take longer to release
but in the background I've been prepping my docs to start assigning ids to steam locomotives
M8s done π
m8s always looked overdesigned to me
like they have so much going on that it's a little hard to actually see details
I can see that, but they're still cool imo
now just remove pantos, redesign the roof and...
M7 done
Scroll up
All the middle coaches built have pantographs though
Yeah, but pantograph code is hard
So it gets code designed for Australian EMUs
1 pantograph per 2 coaches?
Maybe, but idk how to modify this code to do that
Oh I thought that was what happened in the oceanian set
yep
@strange quiver still using IHBA?
time for upgrade?
iirc I removed it since there didn't seem to be a point
but I should probably re-add it again
tbh idk what to do with it
Pretty sure nothing will support it now that horse doesn't even use it
we should probably sort your railtypes out
it's done in Horse 4
I'll go have a look then
iirc I tested horse 4 with JP+ and it still makes its dedicated high speed track appear
doesn't on my side
Bananas JP+ might
I still have to test my theoretical nml code for implementing fallbacks for ac/dc
Iirc v4 does something similar and works so it should be no issue
ah okay then
the situation between Horse and the AC/DC current types in JP+ is best not looked into π
just squint, and assume it's ok
In fairness I did experience the dedicated tracks showing up even with the latest JP+ tracks from GitHub⦠but going from Iron Horse RC3 to the release seems to have removed the issue
π€·ββοΈ
it's been sorted for a while, prior to any RC
but there's quite a lot depends on grf load order, state of railtypes in a savegame etc
I've been running all the RC's and not had that issue.
could make it so they use an AC track type if a dedicated one is available, but otherwise just do the normal ELRL track type if one isn't
that's how my stuff is set up
I believe that's how JP+ does it anyway
tbf I probably stole it from them π
My bad, could well have been using the older banana version of JP tracks⦠ignore me
anyway, nobody is complaining, and I don't use JP+, so it seems there are two sets of happy campers
Yeah I've been following it pretty closely
yh, but I use horse and JP+ π
all is for the best in this the best of all possible worlds
I still don't think there was anything wrong at all with the old method with the parameter.
one too many discussions about it
Could have just popped a warning if you detect another track grf with the parameter still on but we're past that point now
New method is cool and "automatic"
π€·ββοΈ
it was an adventure learning about railtype label resolution order and loading stages
and reserve vs activate
anyway @strange quiver you need to use the updated prop 0x34, but I don't know what the state of nml support is
prop 34 was just for HST wasn't it?
what even is it?
prop 0x34 is a list of railtypes
instead of a single railtype in prop 0x05
was patched in nml in Sept 2025, and in recent tagged releases
It's supported somewhere and in the docs
also, tested horse with the latest version of JP+ and it works better, just the high speed stuff still defaults to the slower speed because there's not compatability with other sets high speed track
so it might be worthwhile for horse to have a paramater to disable that behaviour
fair, is there any benefit to changing though?
I thought Yozora added the ih_behaviour/lgv_capable badge to JP+
but I might be confused with U&ReRMM
which definitely has it
The HST stuff works on their high speed tracks
He added it to a few, there's a few qualifying options for gottagofast
I think you did at one point for testing
π€·ββοΈ
My current game is in 1911 so hard for me to test π
But I distinctly remember testing it myself
it does
@strange quiver prop 0x34 is useful for:
- trains that have wide compatibility with type of track
- dual mode, or bi-mode (or tri-mode) trains
I'm just a goober and didn't think to check teh actual train
prop 0x34 also can cut down or eliminate some of the crazy 'fallback' NML stuff
okay I'll have to look into it then
I thought you already had Ragin? Or maybe I'm halucinating wildly again
maybe you did
_AAE would no longer be needed for example
and if it's a list you're using prop 0x34
like this is how the M8 is setup
This has some
yes, although that looks like it's also using an NML fallback
and ELRL is preferable to SAA3
probably, this is the fallback I'm using
yh, but this is an AC OHLE and 3rd rail unit
SAA3 is just the tag I'm using
Labels that shouldnt be therd
yeah shouldn't be there
yeah, they're useless, idk why they're there
SAA3 also isn't even in the list
yup
they're just different track weights and idk why they're there
was this cargo-culted to you?
probably lmoa, but I also know how it works now so it's an easy fix
I think this is what triggered my 2025-year-of-railtypes
I thought that was speed tbh
I saw these tables getting handed around
wrong
by people with no clue
copied around all the UK sets etc
"people with no clue" sounds judgey
I mean "it was all too hard"
2nd char is speed
and setting it violates diverges from Standardised Scheme
so is SAA3 supposed to represent 3rd rail, or metro?
just third rail
iirc it doesn't make any differentiation for a specific metro rail type
although I think "metro" as a railtype is kinda outdated anyway
No but you could
metro is a valid railtype, but not in the standardised scheme
it's an alternative world view
you probably don't really need a fallback for that one
I suppose
but regardless, it's not a differentiation I intend on including in all my sets
track_type: [OHLE_AC, SAA3] might do it
if only to avoid track spam, because we don't need two separate third rail track types
tbf lots of track types can be nice
but it's also good to keep in simple, when it's reasonable
so this unit
do you want it to run on?
- 3rd rail tracks from standardised scheme?
- 3rd rail tracks in old grfs?
- metro tracks?
- 4th rail tracks from the standardised scheme?
well the M8 I just want it to run on SAA3
and it's an easy code tweak to get working
currently it doesn't run on SAA3 except by accident
if you have it working on SAA3, it only works on SAA3 because some railtype grf is handling cross-compatibility
3rdr is probably worth usinh too not that I know what tracksets support it but not SAA3
well it works fine with JP+ and U&RERMM
if it stops working I can always adjust it
JP+ sets a very aggressive set of compatibility labels
it tries to just make everything work almost everywhere
It won't work with sets in the way you would want
already do π
I know
yee
well another day, we could maybe simplify it
are they all ELRL? π
well they fallback to that if the right tracktype isn't available π
but yh, looking at what I have, I probably want a 50s era third rail MU to bridge the gap between the MP54 and Metropolitan
and potentially something in the 90s to bridge the gap between the Cosmopolitan and the M8
and so the entire OHLE roster isn't dual-voltage
so I might do the ACMU and MR-90

I'm a busy woman π
it would be iirc
I feel like these should be more descriptive but I'm also not a professional
It's fine for personall projects IMO, I mean if you're trying to get a job as a software developer you might want to use it as an example that you can be profeshunal but yeah
also I might try and include some DC MUs for variety
if there's enough variety in AC/DC then I might start using it seperately in my games but for the moment I'm running combined
yeah, I don't want a software job lmao
yeah, that's the problem though
the US doesn't really have any DC stuff anymore
Yeah I work in tech but I don't do software
so the US Set will mostly be AC, but...
the Australian set will mostly be DC
so both together should give a fair bit of variety
I have other things for demonstrating my chops in my particular field.
I think you're a coward if you're not willing to show a potentil employer a commit called "big stinky"
Hah, pretty sure my github is on my resume as well but yeah
Giving a 100ft description of what NFO is to an interviewer is a funj
I could imagine lmao
I have to be professional on my youtube because that's technichally on my resume
tbf I've not mentioned my openttd work in a job application, but I suppose it's a good extra curricular
"I'm gay and I have a tummy ache :("
Story of my life tbh, also those commits are more descriptive than mine
if you have a lifelong stomach ache you should get that checked out π
Ive tried and the best I got "It's probably stress related"
rip :/
Also agreed on not wanting a software job. The existence of SCRUM makes me not want to work professionally in the field
Anyway all that aside keep up the good work drawing pretty pixel trains!
thanks nerd!
scrum?
Scrum is an Agile framework for iterative and incremental project management, focusing on teamwork in short cycles called "Sprints" (usually 2-4 weeks) to deliver high-value products, emphasizing flexibility, collaboration, and continuous feedback
Conceptually fine but my brain cannot work with the system of having to take on tickets and judge for myself what is the magical middle ground of "Enough to be productive, not too much to overwork yourself, not too little to be slacking", and also daily stand ups to explain what you've done, what you'll be doing, and what problems you had/might have. Just makes me feel stressed out and burn out.
MR-90 redone
also I'm thinking of my plan for the MU pack to finish up the:
- RDC
- ACMU
- Metroliner
and then release it
since those will all be the final things I'd wanna include in NARP for now
I have a blurry voxel X2000 you can steal π
but I like my own π
Ah, didn't realize you'd already drawn it π
I did ages back
there's one in both ORP and the original version of NARP atm
it's just in the old "oops all noise" style
I'm gonna need to redo the push-pull code too so aaa
also one thing I just thought about, but irl TGVs have one pantograph for AC and one for DC
so I'll need to tweak the VFT code so it can detect that, since they did spec them for both AC and DC
Metroliners done
got the rebuilt units as the proposed Metroliner II, so they're technichally a proposal and real but meh
ACMUs done
included a randwom switch so it has a 50/50 change of having an assymetrical cab
I know!!! I'm gonna update it either later today or tomorrow
basically whenever I finish this stuff up
lol all good, I saw the icon changed so I figured you were somewhere in the guts of it π
also doing some testing in a game in the 1980s, the first OHLE electro diesel locomotive becomes available is the SD40-DM in 1972
so I might quickly do a passenger equivelant, because there isn't one until the DP32AC in 2003
Had an idea, basically a GE U-boat combined with part of a little joe to make a weird dual-mode locomotive
4500hp on AC, and 1200hp on diesel
not sure if I'll keep it... but as a 1950s electro-diesel, it kinda works?
my other consideration was just an OHLE version of the FL9, but I feel like this is more interesting
also it's an a new haven skin because I wasn't sure what other livery to do lmao
there was also an SPV prototype with this type of streamlined cab
Maybe make it?
Its on the todo list but I'm not doing it atm
Is the rocket train on the to-do list
@crystal crag scrum isn't particularly oppressive BTW....I have seen two people really struggle with it, but both of them were really struggling with "holding down a job"
I mean jobs....don't suit everyone π
I recognise that it's more a personal issue with the system than a system issue, yeah
also depends on who's implementing it
yair very much
I am a big fan of the principles and effects of scrum
but mostly it does this:
- instead of griping about "we have no process, everybody does their own thing"
- we can gripe instead about scrum, which creates a team
or gripe about the ticketing system
exactly
I'm just glad I don't have to fill 35 of 40 hours each week in a ticketing system anymore
or gripe about why tickets more than 4 points are basically unestimatable
I have to do two different sets of timesheets, but they aren't terribly difficult.
scrum tends to bomb with a specific kind of person who:
- neither likes nor understands other humans
- neither likes nor understands systems
OOOH THERE'S A KOOKABURRA ON MY STREET SOMEWHERE
don't normally hear them much in qld
they're everywhere in NSW
I've seen a few owls so-far
any dropbears in brisvegas?
probably
there's one in zoo in my town
I love it's wonky proportions lol
SPV2000 done in the same livery as the one my friend tortures because they're a psychopath
Nice
RDC's done
I never get to play with my own sets, so it's nice to actually play with my own trains and them actually look really good in game
What pack is that dam from?
it's one of the Auz ones
