Its ufibys trackset

gritty bone
#

ah

#

couldn't tell cause I've ran with JP+ with auz's rails for its catenary's and depots

#

(seriously, Auz's rail set is the only one with a proper roundhouse depot)

strange quiver
#

Fair fair, its my normal go to

#

But I've been playing more with JP+

#

Also

#

Dual mode version? πŸ€”

strange quiver
#

women only want one thing and it's disgusting

woeful halo
#

I guess I need to genderbend myself then

strange quiver
#

I suppose that's one way to do it lmao

turbid bronze
strange quiver
haughty pollen
#

We can handle it.

woeful halo
#

Sure we can.

strange quiver
#

Transition goals fr

#

this actually looks better than I expected

haughty pollen
#

It's got a hole in it lol (I know it's meant to be there)

turbid bronze
#

BIG

#

BIIIIIIIIIIG

strange quiver
#

but yh, that's tonights test done

#

I'll properly code it on the weekend sometime

#

coding these seems like it'll be a bit of hassle since it'll need both a 9 and 10 long template

turbid bronze
#

Yeah I mean there's the DDA40X and then the DD35A and DD35B (or just DD35 as it was originally known, originally made cabless as a booster for the GP35)

strange quiver
#

yee, what I'm doing here is the DD35 and DD35A just to test

#

but once I've done these, doing the DD40 and others will be easy

turbid bronze
strange quiver
#

tbf they're just long version of normal locomotives, so it'll be easy anyway

turbid bronze
#

yeah

#

but the templates will be useful for some of the other daft steam units later on down the track

strange quiver
#

true

#

but tbf, there aren't that many super long locomotives in Australia (which I wanna work on first)

turbid bronze
#

fair

strange quiver
#

only exception would be the AD60, but the central section isn't that long anyway

turbid bronze
#

either way I could do with more options for 1900-1930

strange quiver
#

soooooooon

turbid bronze
#

your NA stuff picks up pretty well from aboit 1920/1930 so plugging the gap with some aussie stuff would be A-OK to me

strange quiver
#

I'll have more time to practice steam locomotive wheny my contract ends on the 19th

turbid bronze
#

remind me when you start getting around to it I'll port over the purchase menu changes to the aussie sets.

strange quiver
#

I could do some NA steam locomotives, but I still need to research them

strange quiver
#

I'm gonna have to redraw all the sprites anyway

#

at least for the locomotives

turbid bronze
#

keeeeen

dim pulsar
#

I don’t get these messages, was there an aussie reference?

haughty pollen
#

You'll have to be more specific lol

dim pulsar
haughty pollen
#

I was referencing the slogan on the union pacific loco haha

dim pulsar
#

Oops

turbid bronze
#

we must become more incomprehensible

haughty pollen
#

Fucken oath, I'll pop down to the servo to grab a sanga and some durries, then crack a uey to the bottlo to get some stubbies

turbid bronze
#

Stubbies? Don’t you mean a VB farken LONG NECK

#

Get that up ya

strange quiver
#

lazy day, but I suppose I should draw the GP35 before doing the DD35

#

also tomorrows my last day working for the shire, which will be good

versed sparrow
#

Hmmm

#

I wonder if the e60 will be in any future grfs cus the only one that currently have it is the old us train one

haughty pollen
#

The E60 is in a lot of GRFs: 2cc trainset, NARS, and I'm pretty sure Ragin's done it or plans to do it

Good to see that Amtrak's equipment is finally get the modern 21st century upgrade it needs

#

Hopefully VIA Rail here is soon to follow

#

A lot of their equipment is as old if not older than Amtrak's

strange quiver
#

I just haven't been bothered to do either of the freight versions

haughty pollen
#

Easy, just chop off a cab πŸ˜›

mental musk
#

the cab designs are diffrent. Count the windows

But this likely does not matter in such smol scale

mint cargo
#

Since you make the template of DD35, you could use them to make the planed PRR DDR Concept Electric one, the engine cab and design is virtually a DD35 dual-cab electrificated one, to be use along Horseshoe Curve, but the plan as cancelled as PRR and NYC became the PennCentral...

turbid bronze
#

Oooooh

strange quiver
#

actually iirc it's on my list

#

Yee, already got it πŸ™‚

#

could do it...

turbid bronze
#

That thing looks daft. I love it.

#

I love that youve already got so many prototypes and proposed locos that you can basically larp β€˜what if America but different’

strange quiver
#

yeah

#

legit finding these prototypes is one of my main excuses for doing openttd stuff lmao

versed sparrow
#

Some early concept for the acela

strange quiver
#

Yee, already got them on the list :3

mental musk

looks better than the final design

versed sparrow

Wait do you have this on the bucket list im just wondering

strange quiver

I've been dying to see it in game

I wanna focus on my Australian stuff soon anyway

mental musk

Stadler seems to be the biggest manufaturer of DMUs with this construdion layout....

#

Let's salute the ticket inspectors who have to walk through the machineroom with roading diesels on both sides of the corridor to check tickets in the 2nd half of the train 🫑

isn't it a raised floor over the engine?

mental musk

#

I've been on stadler sets in Europe, some are a narrow corridor, some are raised floor

I like the exterior design of the FLIRT-s with the 3rd gen cab

at least the electric version does not have this

severe elbow

at least ours have lights

mental musk
severe elbow
#

still electric

mental musk
#

indeed

#

I think that combined batterry+OHLE MUs are the best solution for partially electrified regional lines

severe elbow
#

nah bi mode it

mental musk
#

on longer lines (long distance, interregional) loco-hueled sets with loco change can work good

#

but each loco change takes some time

mental musk
steep echo
#

just put 3rd rail down everywhere

mental musk
#

OHLE is better

#

as it operates on higher voltages it gives more power

#

more power == more powerfull motors and higher speeds

severe elbow
#

you dont get thrash then

steep echo
#

3rd rail electrocutes dumbasses who stand on it

mental musk
#

generally by batterry + OHLE I mean an MU that can charge it's batterries on the move, whan under wires

steep echo
#

so not an OHLE train with the word battery written on it?

mental musk
steep echo
#

oh yeah, i forgot how you like to explain everything to others as if they're a sped

turbid bronze
#

just synced my fork, yessssss DD35... Okay it's only one view but still :3

strange quiver
#

tbf it'll be easy to finish :3333

#

got most of my weekend work done, so I might finish it tonight

turbid bronze
#

it's pretty much just a GP35 with another motor grafted onto the arse of it right?

strange quiver
#

pretty much

#

its why I drew the GP35, although I didn't code it

#

I should probably code that actually

turbid bronze
#

Yeah I've had a pretty slack weekend. Yesterday I was wiped, slept all day, was awake then til like 7pm then fell asleep again

strange quiver
#

sounds fun

turbid bronze
#

Not really lmao

strange quiver
#

I had a party last night so I feel rough

turbid bronze
#

heh

#

you socialite you

#

I haven't been to a proper party in years

#

everything goes downhill when you get into your thirties

strange quiver
#

tbf they can be a lot, and I'm not that social lmao

turbid bronze

you just wanna be in bed asleep by 9pm

strange quiver
strange quiver
strange quiver

I like electric locos instead

strange quiver
soft stump
strange quiver
#

Yee

#

Its why they're high on my priority list

#

Australia/NZ combined also imported all 3 major variants of them too

strange quiver
#

okay been working through code stuff

#

got some cool stuff to show off tonight

#

ya'll are gonna be eating good

turbid bronze
#

DELICIOUS

strange quiver
#

πŸ‘€

turbid bronze
#

YOOOOOO

#

GP35 and the DD35 gonna make it as well? Honestly can't wait to use them. I need to get a save up to the 1960's first though lmao

#

though I honestly can't wait to start using the triple and quad boxcabs

strange quiver
#

tbh assuming I'm in the mood, I'll probably have the GP35, DD35A/B and Little Joes done by tonight

#

I'm just testing things to get myself familiar with the code

#

the DD35A is gonna be the most difficult, but it should be somewhat straightforward

strange quiver
#

goobers done

#

on github now if ya'll wanna test it out

turbid bronze
#

BIG

#

STINKY

#

❀️

#

I’ll do a compile now

strange quiver
#

have fun

#

although there is a grf in there anyway

turbid bronze
#

Oh yeah that's probably more intelligent

strange quiver
#

also it helps people who don't know how to compile it

turbid bronze
#

Yeah, changed your batch file to copy instead of move?

#

I do the same in my repos, I just leave the raw .grf and the combined .nfo file from the .pnfo's if people want to tinker/play without dicking around with make and GCC (not that much dicking around is required but still)

strange quiver
#

nah, I just compile it and leave it in there

#

I should change it to copy though

turbid bronze
#

green and gold looks very patriotic for my alt history australia

#

Fuck they look so good in game

frosty sand
#

Oh hell yeah

strange quiver
#

Clyde offered then a twin 645 locomotive for the trans-australian service

#

but it would have had a bulldog nose

turbid bronze
#

god pair of gp35's with two DD35's in the middle looks so good

#

So they look fine going around corners. Little bit of clipping with tunnel portals and depots but not an outrageous amount

#

You done good

strange quiver
#

thanks

strange quiver
turbid bronze
#

It's fine. There's clipping glitches even in vanilla OpenTTD with bridges and trains and wires occasionally. I think it's just a reality of the game tbh. It's not especially egregious.

strange quiver
#

yee, it's why I'm not too fussed

turbid bronze
#

Well the good news is with big behemoths like the DD35A and the DDA40X after it taken care of you're pretty much on track to do something similar for the steam locomotives like the Big Boy, the locomotive itself is only 26m not counting the tender

#

Could easily do that as a 10/8 sprite in the same fashion then do an 8/8 or 6/8 tender

strange quiver
#

yee, although tbf the code side of steam locomotives is the easy part

turbid bronze
#

Main body would be about the same size as the DD35A yeah

#

Yeah I don't envy having to draw the sucker. That said, you've got the NARS sprites to work off too.

strange quiver
#

yee, I've got a fair bit of references

rancid bear
#

I might be being a bit of a muppet but I can't get the newgrfs I downloaded from your github to show up in game? Only the older versions (CNALP, CNAPs and NARP) from bananas are there or not there at all in the case of the wagons (NARPWP). Delete the older downloads and there is nothing. JGRPP 68.2 and usually smarter than your average bear lol

strange quiver
#

but they all have a higher version number so openttd shouldn't be having any issues

#

also

#

πŸ€”

#

not realated to any american stuff, but now that I have the code for the DD35, doing the A32D should be easy too

#

omg EMD F50CM

#

it was only a AC testbed built on a SDP40F

#

but it can go in the misc roster

strange quiver
#

probably needs a bit more tweaking, but the GP39 in the ATSF livery is done

#

gonna quickly run through and do the SDL39 now

mental musk
#

ASTF cowl units for passenger trains done?

strange quiver
#

well if you're refering to the FP45, yeah

mental musk
#

I would not be suprised if thay had a couple of serieses of cowl units

strange quiver
#

SDL39 done

#

basically just a GP39 with a C-C wheel arrangement and slightly different radiator setup

rancid bear
#

The DD35's in their diesel glory.... they look fantastic. (I added a tiny invisible wagon between them so I could see your artistry better! Tankers are from NARS, extra CC colours too).

earnest meadow
#

reporting from the JP+ server, maybe we could have Montreal Metro for a future update

strange quiver
strange quiver
#

also now that I think about it, the GG1 was 24m long, so I should probably redo it as 9 long

#

otherwise it's out of scale with everything else

strange quiver
#

also quickly did the EF-3B, since it's just an EP4 with slightly different vents

#

I've got a handful of locos I wanna do today to finish things up, so we'll see how many I get done

strange quiver
#

GG1 fixed with an R1 for comparison

mellow loom
#

Might be worth softening those yellow lines on the locomotives with some more shading, they're a touch stark

strange quiver
#

yee, but it'd require a little more re-working than I'd be wanting to do

#

I'm trying to make the livery such that they work with other stuff, alongside the actual livery, and changing the tone of CC2 would potentially break that

strange quiver
#

DDR 6700 done

haughty pollen
#

Sounds more like a type of RAM than a locomotive

#

Looks awesome though

strange quiver
#

but yh, there's only limited info on this

#

interestingly the blueprint show it with a steam boiler? so I'm guessing this was more mixed traffic?

#

but I've just done it as a heavy freight locomotive

turbid bronze
red stump
#

Have you done any other PRR electrics

turbid bronze
#

Horse steam and Ragins electrics meet πŸ™‚

#

those are some nice pixels

#

Got a little mountain route that bridges some marshland in a valley, used a GE Z-1-A to do the climb back up the mountain

strange quiver
red stump
#

I got some catching up to do

turbid bronze
# red stump I got some catching up to do

The roster is impressive now. Freight wagons really does still need something like Horse to flesh it out, and 1900-1920 is a bit barren until Ragin draws some kettles

#

but from 1920 onwards it's a smorgasbord

Now how about the bigger joes

haughty pollen

strange quiver
#

Pmotors redone using the 9 template

#

also the codes redone so hopefully... doing liveries for these should be a lot simpler

#

will need to do the same for some other locomotives, but that's a future me problem

#

also I hope everyone's christmas went well

#

mine was interesting to say the least...

#

so I'm gonna draw some trains to get my mind of it

#

I've got a few I wanna get through today, and some more code cleaning up that needs to be done

turbid bronze
#

I’m in Hay, I’ve driven like 600-700km today

#

I was two states away this morning

strange quiver
#

you're really just driving out into the middle of nowhere lmao

turbid bronze
#

Yeah Adelaide this morning, Dubbo tomorrow probably, then straight to Brisbane.

#

Maybe Narrabri

#

Depends how many K’s I wanna drive

#

I wanna be home Sunday evening regardless

strange quiver
#

rip, I don't envy that

strange quiver

NH EP-3s done

more boxcabs for the boxcab gods

#

also these new swamps look really good

#

I need to set up a new game just to see more of them

mental musk
strange quiver
#

I didn't have any NH coaches :3

strange quiver
#

New haven EP-2s done

#

now for the Milwaukee's EP-3s

#

also it's funny for a locomotive this big, they only produce 2000hp

#

Americans seem to have a thing for giant vehicles that make no power at all

#

just realised there are only 21m long, so they should be on the 8 template...

haughty pollen
#

What

woeful halo
#

Seems like the script is the same

strange quiver
#

low energy for locomotives today, and I cbf doing freight wagons

turbid bronze
#

Fair

strange quiver
#

so I might finally get around to adding voltages to electric locomotives

strange quiver
#

tsk tsk tsk

turbid bronze
#

πŸ˜›

strange quiver
#

also while I'm at it, I'm gonna modify my stuff to match JP+ better

steep echo
#

based

strange quiver
#

so now the track type colours and naming schemes will match JP+ tracks, which I think is a nice feature

steep echo
#

but dont get too dccaught up in trying to match another set instead of making stuff xddd its not so fucn xd

#

ohhhh

strange quiver
#

I know, it's mostly code cleanup stuff anyway

#

just so they work better together

steep echo
#

eusssss

#

thats god)

woeful halo
#

I should kitbash with sprites for my trainset

#

It's a pain in the arse drawing everything by hand

#

Just need to replicate Andy's Polar Fox somehow

strange quiver
#

tbf most of my sprites I kitbash myself to make new stuff

woeful halo
#

I just realised

#

I can use a lot of UKRS/IH assets for Indian locos

#

The steam locos in particular

strange quiver
#

yee, it's an option

#

done the electric locomotives now, it's gonna be an issue if you play with only this set and intend on using DC locomotives, because this is your entire selection

#

iirc the joes are probably the last DC locomotive introduced into service in the US?

turbid bronze
#

Everything fails back if you’re not running seperate AC/DC?

#

That EP-3 is yuuuuuuuge

strange quiver
#

works fine, just still says the actual OHLE type it uses

turbid bronze
#

Oh no, oh bother, I guess I’ll just have to turn on both electric tracks in JP+ tracks πŸ˜›

strange quiver
#

I could change that... but I think it's fine

turbid bronze
#

Flavour text tells you what it is, rails themselves say AC/DC

haughty pollen
#

JP+ is the same, the locos fall back to ELRL if narrow gauge or voltages aren't available, but the description doesn't change

turbid bronze
#

Also narrow gauge when

strange quiver
turbid bronze
#

I’m playing meandering islands again and I wanna make one of the main islands be narrow gauge just to be difficult to myself

strange quiver
#

as for Australian stuff, I'm still unsure how I'd wanna do it

#

I think for Australian narrow gauge, I'm gonna keep everything as standard gauge unless I can find a reasonable way to do it

turbid bronze
#

Well there’s three main gauges for Australia 😐

#

But honestly you could probably just lump broad gauge SA stuff in with standard and let the banana benders be special

strange quiver
#

I could, but there's the concern of multi-gauge stuff

haughty pollen
#

That's probably what I'd do too, there's plenty of narrow gauge stuff in WA and NZ too

strange quiver
#

like there are some QR locomotives that were converted for standard gauge, and some SAR/NSW locomotives converted to narrow gauge

#

so idk what to do with those

#

the only reasonable solution would be to just re-code them again as narrow gauge, but that's not a great solution imo

haughty pollen
#

Just have them as separate vehicles, it's the easiest way by far

turbid bronze
#

Duplicate them and have a slightly different livery?

strange quiver
#

I suppose

#

but it's also why I brought up that purchase idea with multiple track types in the add on dev channel

#

since it would give a lot more flexibility without much more code

haughty pollen
#

That's a very niche problem and unlikely to be fixed in GRF, to be honest

turbid bronze
#

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about that, just duplicate the suckers and maaaaybe do a unique livery for them.

strange quiver
#

well I'll think about it then

#

lemme arrange my spreadsheet with gauge to see what's required then

#

if it's not too much, I'll see if I can split it

turbid bronze
#

I’m happy to do some grunt work if you can work out what ID’s you wanna allocate etc etc

#

I’ve also gotta do the purchase sprite alignment work on the Oceanian stuff at some point

#

Or were you going to recode that from scratch?

strange quiver
#

I'm probably just gonna re-do it from scratch tbh

turbid bronze
#

Fair

strange quiver
#

I'm gonna have to re-do all the sprites anyway

#

so it's not gonna be much more work

turbid bronze
#

Yeah the good thing is you’ve got all your templates etc in the NA stuff now

strange quiver
#

yee

#

tbh running through and doing new sprites for the Australian stuff should be really easy anyway

#

since I have so much reference material from the NA set too

turbid bronze
#

But yeah happy to do some data processing on narrow gauge if you can let me know what you want

#

That spreadsheet on the github?

strange quiver
#

it's not, but you can find it here

#

I'm just going through now and doing it

#

it shouldn't take too long since already know what gauge most locomotives are off the top of my head anyway lmao

turbid bronze
#

How about the yank stuff? They didn’t have a lot of narrow gauge off the top of my head

strange quiver
#

basically none post 1970

#

it's why there'd be no point including that info in that roster

#

I've got a separate doc containing info on US narrow gauge, but it's not been converted to a spreadsheet yet

#

most of their stuff was a mix of 3ft 6in and 3ft gauges

turbid bronze
#

Yeah you’d just mix that all together

#

Not functionally different enough

#

And yeah, was mostly over by ww2 so it’d mostly be steam and some early diesels

#

Shay’s are pretty important if talking about early steam in the US though

#

So in other words it’s in the fuck it bucket til you get around to steam πŸ˜›

strange quiver
#

pretty much

#

it's future me's problem

#

priority is gonna be Australian steam anyway

turbid bronze
#

Nice

#

Either way I play a mixed roster so Australian steam still scratches that 1900-1920 itch πŸ˜›

strange quiver
#

yeeee

haughty pollen
#

Don't forget about these

strange quiver
#

iirc they're on my Australian roster as something to copy across

#

I've been marking my spreadsheets to indicate trains that are relevant to other sets

turbid bronze
#

Heh, those were repainted green and gold as well, everyone’s copying my normal TTD livery πŸ˜›

strange quiver
#

tsk tsk tsk

#

the thieving bastards

turbid bronze
#

I’ve been using dark green and white a lot lately as well

#

Should probably do group liveries

haughty pollen
#

RGBCC patch when

strange quiver
#

that would make me so happy πŸ™‚

#

that and CC3/CC4

turbid bronze
#

Peter did just merge desert rocks though so that’s gonna be nice. Should make my rock .grf’s for JGRPP redundant once that merges

#

But yes it would be nice if RGBCC got merged.

#

Though I think it was HSLCC to be more accurate

strange quiver
#

is there somewhere I could find more info on it?

#

i didn't know it was an actual proposal

turbid bronze
#

Yeah Peter had a branch and a PR at one stage, not sure what ended up blocking it but there was some pissing and moaning from some obnoxious multiplayer sorts that people could get confused with similar CC’s even though there’s no restrictions on group liveries πŸ™„

strange quiver
#

well that's annoying

#

not really a reason to reject it, especially because it opens up so many more oppurtunities

turbid bronze
#

I don’t think that was the β€˜blocker’ though

strange quiver
#

ah fair

#

okay so going through my list, there are 29 locomotives that were built for multiple gauges (I could have missed 1 or 2 though)

#

the vast majority are Broad/Standard

#

if you filter it down to just Standard/Broad and Narrow, then it goes down to 8 (but 1 is just a cab variant)

turbid bronze
#

I wonder if we could twist @frigid drum's arm to make broad gauge rails for JP+ tracks or its future international variant πŸ˜›

#

they're going to murder me I know it

strange quiver
#

look, if they do it, it'll save me doing it myself πŸ™‚

#

I might while I'm at it split everything by gauge at the ID stage for future compatability

turbid bronze
#

Yeah, plan ahead

#

I guess the good thing is that if you skip broad guage entirely you're only missing out on relatively few locomotives, suburban shit from SA and a few poxy little regional vic railroads. All the freight and interstate passenger carrying trains were standard gauge.

strange quiver
#

true

#

but still, I'll build in broad gauge into the Id allocations so I can include broad gauge in future

Also I might as well add gauge info to even my north american stuff if only so the extra details are consistent

Great thing with how your sets are is you can just have an offshoot with a few engines in it and complement with the others or Horse to fill out a playable roster.

strange quiver

yee, that'd be the plan

#

and a lot of African stuff would be re-used from the Australian set

wait an moment

You are going to remake the 2cc?

strange quiver
mental musk

neat idea

#

but generally a few questions

#
  1. a lot of locos were used in numerous countries/railways
I think that these should have thair start date as date of start of operation in the first operator?
But the name? Factory designation? (These are ususally less known than railroads designations...)
  2. The roaster should be adjusted for good gameplay value, so at any point of gameplay you have locos/MUs for all categories/classes/services no matter what regions do You use
  3. Technical parameters balance, ESPECIALLY passenger carrying stock, as diffrent countries have diffrent norms for amount of standing passengers / squere meter

happy new year goober

versed sparrow

Happy new year to everyone also any big goobers ?

strange quiver
#

okay so first test works well

#

I'm gonna have two different track labels that I'll use

#

so for locomotives that are multiple gauges (like this GM class). There will be a standard gauge variant that's the default, and a broad gauge version that appears only if you have a corresponding track type

#

for locomotives that are a single gauge, if that track type isn't available, then they'll automatically fallback to being standard gauge

#

so stuff like the A class will still be available, despite them only ever being built for broad gauge

#

there are some edge cases that were only narrow/broad, but iirc there's only one

#

also there's a little bit of a difference between a full size GM class and the narrow gauge wagons in horse lmao

crystal crag

turbid bronze

god no

#

three main gauges

#

broad gauge runs all of SA's suburban rail network, and parts of rural victoria. Standard gauge is used for most inter-state freight, and vic and nsw I believe is all standard gauge. QLD is all narrow gauge and some rare standard gauge freight coming in from interstate

#

I don't know what happens in WA and I don't care.

crystal crag

Plot twist it's a fourth different gauge

it's been sorted for a while, prior to any RC

I still don't think there was anything wrong at all with the old method with the parameter.

one too many discussions about it

signal gate

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

#

it was an adventure learning about railtype label resolution order and loading stages

and reserve vs activate

#

anyway @strange quiver you need to use the updated prop 0x34, but I don't know what the state of nml support is

turbid bronze
#

prop 34 was just for HST wasn't it?

strange quiver
#

what even is it?

signal gate
#

prop 0x34 is a list of railtypes

#

instead of a single railtype in prop 0x05

#

was patched in nml in Sept 2025, and in recent tagged releases

glossy compass
#

It's supported somewhere and in the docs

strange quiver
#

also, tested horse with the latest version of JP+ and it works better, just the high speed stuff still defaults to the slower speed because there's not compatability with other sets high speed track

#

so it might be worthwhile for horse to have a paramater to disable that behaviour

strange quiver
signal gate
#

I thought Yozora added the ih_behaviour/lgv_capable badge to JP+

#

but I might be confused with U&ReRMM

#

which definitely has it

turbid bronze
#

The HST stuff works on their high speed tracks

#

He added it to a few, there's a few qualifying options for gottagofast

glossy compass
signal gate

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

turbid bronze
#

My current game is in 1911 so hard for me to test πŸ˜›

strange quiver
signal gate
#

@strange quiver prop 0x34 is useful for:

  • trains that have wide compatibility with type of track
  • dual mode, or bi-mode (or tri-mode) trains
strange quiver
#

I'm just a goober and didn't think to check teh actual train

signal gate
#

prop 0x34 also can cut down or eliminate some of the crazy 'fallback' NML stuff

strange quiver
turbid bronze
#

I thought you already had Ragin? Or maybe I'm halucinating wildly again

signal gate
#

maybe you did

strange quiver
#

Maybe?

#

lemme find a code snippet

signal gate
#

this could be an amusingly pointless chat

#

it will be track_type:

glossy compass
#

_AAE would no longer be needed for example

signal gate
#

and if it's a list you're using prop 0x34

strange quiver
#

like this is how the M8 is setup

signal gate
#

yes, although that looks like it's also using an NML fallback

#

and ELRL is preferable to SAA3

strange quiver
#

probably, this is the fallback I'm using

strange quiver
#

SAA3 is just the tag I'm using

signal gate
#

yeah I'm wrong

#

I misread it as SAAE

#

what's the SBA3, SCA3 etc?

glossy compass
#

Labels that shouldnt be therd

signal gate
#

yeah shouldn't be there

strange quiver
#

yeah, they're useless, idk why they're there

glossy compass
#

SAA3 also isn't even in the list

signal gate
#

yup

strange quiver
#

they're just different track weights and idk why they're there

signal gate
#

was this cargo-culted to you?

strange quiver
signal gate
#

I think this is what triggered my 2025-year-of-railtypes

glossy compass
#

I thought that was speed tbh

signal gate
#

I saw these tables getting handed around

#

wrong

#

by people with no clue

#

copied around all the UK sets etc

#

"people with no clue" sounds judgey

#

I mean "it was all too hard"

#

2nd char is speed

#

and setting it violates diverges from Standardised Scheme

#

so is SAA3 supposed to represent 3rd rail, or metro?

strange quiver
#

just third rail

#

iirc it doesn't make any differentiation for a specific metro rail type

#

although I think "metro" as a railtype is kinda outdated anyway

glossy compass
#

No but you could

signal gate
#

metro is a valid railtype, but not in the standardised scheme

#

it's an alternative world view

#

you probably don't really need a fallback for that one

strange quiver
#

I suppose

#

but regardless, it's not a differentiation I intend on including in all my sets

signal gate
#

track_type: [OHLE_AC, SAA3] might do it

strange quiver
#

if only to avoid track spam, because we don't need two separate third rail track types

signal gate
#

some sets have 4 or 5

#

that's railtypes πŸ™‚

strange quiver
#

tbf lots of track types can be nice

#

but it's also good to keep in simple, when it's reasonable

signal gate
#

so this unit

#

do you want it to run on?

  • 3rd rail tracks from standardised scheme?
  • 3rd rail tracks in old grfs?
  • metro tracks?
  • 4th rail tracks from the standardised scheme?
strange quiver
#

well the M8 I just want it to run on SAA3

#

and it's an easy code tweak to get working

signal gate
#

currently it doesn't run on SAA3 except by accident

#

if you have it working on SAA3, it only works on SAA3 because some railtype grf is handling cross-compatibility

glossy compass
#

3rdr is probably worth usinh too not that I know what tracksets support it but not SAA3

strange quiver
#

if it stops working I can always adjust it

signal gate
#

JP+ sets a very aggressive set of compatibility labels

#

it tries to just make everything work almost everywhere

glossy compass
#

It won't work with sets in the way you would want

glossy compass
#

I know

signal gate
#

well another day, we could maybe simplify it

strange quiver
#

yeee

#

for now, I have some more MUs I wanna do

signal gate
#

are they all ELRL? πŸ˜›

strange quiver
#

well they fallback to that if the right tracktype isn't available πŸ™‚

#

but yh, looking at what I have, I probably want a 50s era third rail MU to bridge the gap between the MP54 and Metropolitan

#

and potentially something in the 90s to bridge the gap between the Cosmopolitan and the M8

#

and so the entire OHLE roster isn't dual-voltage

#

so I might do the ACMU and MR-90

strange quiver
turbid bronze

if there's enough variety in AC/DC then I might start using it seperately in my games but for the moment I'm running combined

strange quiver

the US doesn't really have any DC stuff anymore

turbid bronze

Yeah I work in tech but I don't do software

strange quiver
#

so the US Set will mostly be AC, but...

#

the Australian set will mostly be DC

#

so both together should give a fair bit of variety

turbid bronze
#

I have other things for demonstrating my chops in my particular field.

strange quiver
turbid bronze
#

Hah, pretty sure my github is on my resume as well but yeah

#

Giving a 100ft description of what NFO is to an interviewer is a funj

strange quiver
#

I could imagine lmao

#

I have to be professional on my youtube because that's technichally on my resume

#

tbf I've not mentioned my openttd work in a job application, but I suppose it's a good extra curricular

Ive tried and the best I got "It's probably stress related"

strange quiver
#

rip :/

crystal crag
#

Also agreed on not wanting a software job. The existence of SCRUM makes me not want to work professionally in the field

#

Anyway all that aside keep up the good work drawing pretty pixel trains!

Scrum is an Agile framework for iterative and incremental project management, focusing on teamwork in short cycles called "Sprints" (usually 2-4 weeks) to deliver high-value products, emphasizing flexibility, collaboration, and continuous feedback

#

Conceptually fine but my brain cannot work with the system of having to take on tickets and judge for myself what is the magical middle ground of "Enough to be productive, not too much to overwork yourself, not too little to be slacking", and also daily stand ups to explain what you've done, what you'll be doing, and what problems you had/might have. Just makes me feel stressed out and burn out.

strange quiver
#

fair enough

#

doesn't sound too fun :/

strange quiver
#

MR-90 redone

#

also I'm thinking of my plan for the MU pack to finish up the:

  • RDC
  • ACMU
  • Metroliner
    and then release it
#

since those will all be the final things I'd wanna include in NARP for now

frosty sand
#

Yesss

#

Can't wait to start a new game with Horse 4 and NARP

strange quiver
#

:)))))

#

oh actually, I should do the X2000 too since I'll need that for ORP

frosty sand
#

I have a blurry voxel X2000 you can steal πŸ˜›

strange quiver
#

but I like my own πŸ™

frosty sand
#

Ah, didn't realize you'd already drawn it πŸ˜„

strange quiver
#

I did ages back

#

there's one in both ORP and the original version of NARP atm

#

it's just in the old "oops all noise" style

#

I'm gonna need to redo the push-pull code too so aaa

#

also one thing I just thought about, but irl TGVs have one pantograph for AC and one for DC

#

so I'll need to tweak the VFT code so it can detect that, since they did spec them for both AC and DC

strange quiver
#

Metroliners done

#

got the rebuilt units as the proposed Metroliner II, so they're technichally a proposal and real but meh

strange quiver
#

ACMUs done

#

included a randwom switch so it has a 50/50 change of having an assymetrical cab

turbid bronze
#

I should probably be doing some work

strange quiver
#

basically whenever I finish this stuff up

turbid bronze
#

lol all good, I saw the icon changed so I figured you were somewhere in the guts of it πŸ˜›

strange quiver
#

yeeeeee

#

all good

strange quiver
#

also doing some testing in a game in the 1980s, the first OHLE electro diesel locomotive becomes available is the SD40-DM in 1972

#

so I might quickly do a passenger equivelant, because there isn't one until the DP32AC in 2003

strange quiver
#

Had an idea, basically a GE U-boat combined with part of a little joe to make a weird dual-mode locomotive

#

4500hp on AC, and 1200hp on diesel

#

not sure if I'll keep it... but as a 1950s electro-diesel, it kinda works?

#

my other consideration was just an OHLE version of the FL9, but I feel like this is more interesting

#

also it's an a new haven skin because I wasn't sure what other livery to do lmao

Its on the todo list but I'm not doing it atm

crystal crag

Is the rocket train on the to-do list

signal gate
#

@crystal crag scrum isn't particularly oppressive BTW....I have seen two people really struggle with it, but both of them were really struggling with "holding down a job"

#

I mean jobs....don't suit everyone πŸ˜›

crystal crag
turbid bronze
signal gate
#

yair very much

#

I am a big fan of the principles and effects of scrum

#

but mostly it does this:

  • instead of griping about "we have no process, everybody does their own thing"
  • we can gripe instead about scrum, which creates a team
turbid bronze
#

or gripe about the ticketing system

signal gate
#

exactly

turbid bronze
#

I'm just glad I don't have to fill 35 of 40 hours each week in a ticketing system anymore

signal gate
#

or gripe about why tickets more than 4 points are basically unestimatable

turbid bronze
#

I have to do two different sets of timesheets, but they aren't terribly difficult.

signal gate
#

scrum tends to bomb with a specific kind of person who:

  • neither likes nor understands other humans
  • neither likes nor understands systems
turbid bronze
#

OOOH THERE'S A KOOKABURRA ON MY STREET SOMEWHERE

#

don't normally hear them much in qld

#

they're everywhere in NSW

#

I've seen a few owls so-far

signal gate
#

any dropbears in brisvegas?

turbid bronze

probably

Nice

strange quiver

RDC's done

strange quiver
#

I never get to play with my own sets, so it's nice to actually play with my own trains and them actually look really good in game
