new to formula 1. why do 2 people from the same team play in the same race? wouldn't that just cause more instability for no reason? in addition, if one driver was doing all of the work and the other driver just passes through, it wouldn't be fair for the other driver to win the trophy just because he finished earlier.

There are multiple reasons why, from what I’ve heard it’s so if one crashes the team isn’t just out of the race, along with making it so the team can make more points than one, because if one get last and the other one gets first that’s more points the just getting last.
