Right, here's the A-Z of what happened from my perspective:

I got a very good start and managed to overtake a few cars off the line. Coming up to T1, I was aware of the top 3/4 cars in a bunch, and saw there was no way I was going to make further headroom. I therefore turned my attention to retaining my position. As I was already to the right of the track, it was unlikely anyone could overtake me into T1. However, they could into T2/3, so my priority was to park my car on the apex, thus compromising their line and allowing me to retain position throughout sector 1.

Unfortunately, I fucked up by braking slightly too late. In an effort to get the car slowed down in time (and not ram the group of 3/4 cars), I locked up. As such, I completely lost steering/further braking control. I was committed to a straight line until I was going slow enough to turn. This + the lack of deceleration due to the lock up caused me to tag a car from that group, which then dominoed into someone getting spun around into T2.

As for the push off track:

Having finally stopped and regained control of the car, I found myself very off-line. My priority was not losing any more positions, so I pushed full-throttle from this un-ideal line, thinking that I would make the corner, given that if you're on the racing line, you can make that corner either full-throttle, or with minimal lift. Again, unfortunately, this was misjudged. I ended up understeering into traditional corner entry, which was being occupied by the Merc. I didn't actually realise I'd understeered so much until I got force feedback from the contact. It wasn't a force; it was merely an unfamiliar line and overly-optimistic throttle deployment.

In article 27 there are a few places where your move was mentioned against the rulebook.
27.4) At no time may a car be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person.
Why was your move dangereous? You are leaving the track, going into the grass (a not so grippy surface) as the gap you were going for was pretty nonexistant.
27.3)Drivers must make every reasonable effort to use the track at all times and may not deliberately leave the track without a justifiable reason.
Drivers will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with it and, for the avoidance of doubt, any white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.
