monza 2019 repeat
hmmm
De Oliveira had to give up ByKolles Le Mans seat
The 2010 Formula Nippon champion and long-time Nissan GT500 driver revealed he tested the ByKolles ENSO CLM P1/01 last year and that plans were also made for him to be part of the team's line-up for the preceding FIA World Endurance Championship round at Spa.
But Japan's strict immigration rules prevented de Oliveira from taking up the seat, as leaving the country would have prevented him from ...Keep reading

RAST PODIUMMMM
how does Le Mans work? Team with the most ammounts of laps at the end?
yes
aight
wait it's indy500 this weekend?
oh shit
correct, 23rd of august
yes indy takes like a month
most of it is practice
lol how much practice do you need on an oval
i'd imagine it gets boring
in the race too
This week probably qualifying shootout
lol how much practice do you need on an oval
@lament dove you'd be surprised my guy
i mean
Indy seems like your average oval, but every turn is so different than the last that even in simulators it takes a damn long time to master
what could you do for 2 weeks straight
running different scenarios, tires, fuel loads?
Work on your lap times to try to get the best quali result?
ok but why not every other event like this then?
It's just an extended period of practice, it's the biggest race of the season and one of the 3 (4) biggest in the world, of course everyone wants a ton of practice so they have a shot at the win
The prestige of winning Indy is higher than winning the damn IndyCar championship
Yeah, just Indy seems like a simple track for the period of practice and preparation given so I can see how it's confusing
But you've gotta consider that these guys are running laps that go down to the hundredths, thousandths in the splits between them
The higher up you qualify, the better, as the race is almost 50% luck
Also more drivers attempt to qualify than actually can do the race, look up Fernando Alonso being pushed out
It's 50% luck because you have to rely on your own pit strategy beating everyone else's, not having a blown tire, fuel issues, suspension issues, you have to worry about the looming threat of your wing having damage if you so much as tap another car, these aren't like GT cars or even F1 cars. These guys are going so fast that one mistake can mean anything from an extra long pit stop to a near-fatal crash. You just have to know the track, make your overtakes stick, and hope you don't have anything bad happen.
Yeah, those things can take dents and bumps and just have minor drop in performance
In an IndyCar, you bump someone and suddenly half your downforce is gone
do their oval setups even produce a lot of downforce in first place?
No problem man
Uhh the setup is really just to make the car fast as possible from what I know. I don't know much about what they do to the car irl, but in my sim experience I've always just tried to work on the car taking corners smoother and working on the perfect gear ratios. The wings don't need to be changed much, but I'd bet they do change that for downforce irl.
considering how fast indy actually is and how small the margins are to be fast and the danger of it, it kinda makes sense
there’s not that many practice sessions really
7 practice sessions over a course of 9 days
I mean it’s a lot in comparison to other races but yh
Normally the first week of the month is for the Indy GP
Then 5 days of practice, qualifying on Saturday and Sunday, 2 more days of practice on Monday and Tuesday, Final practice on Friday, then the race itself on Sunday
I've actually never watched the Indy 500 or Monaco GP, always watched the Coke 600 pre-race instead because I didn't watch IndyCar often and didn't know F1 existed
Now that NASCAR'S rule and car changes have pushed me out of the sport, I can enjoy the thrill of open-wheel racing on ovals
Hopefully see Castroneves get another 500 win and secure a seat at Penske for next year
nahh he didn't get pushed out of penske @tawny hatch
he kinda left himself
he's pretty happy where he is
I know he's not being pushed out
Just I want him to have a secured seat for Indy for as long as possible
I never actually got to see Castroneves win Indy, so I wanna see it someday
Toyota prepares to give low-downforce aero Spa debut
The Japanese manufacturer's pair of TS050 Hybrids will have a new look this weekend as the WEC resumes following the coronavirus-enforced shutdown, having run in high-downforce configuration for the first five rounds of the 2019/20 season.
Toyota trialled its low-downforce aero in a private test at Paul Ricard last month as it bids for a third consecutive victory at Le Mans to go with its 2018 ...Keep reading

Aubry tests positive for COVID-19, two teams affected
Frenchman Gabriel Aubry, who races for the JOTA Sport-run Jackie Chan DC Racing LMP2 squad, has received a suspected COVID-19 diagnosis.
His participation in the Spa 6 Hours on Saturday now rests on a second test undertaken yesterday proving negative.
The Algarve Pro Racing LMP2 team is also affected because Aubry raced for it in last weekend's European Le Mans Series ...Keep reading

Spa WEC: Rebellion, ByKolles outpace Toyota in FP1
Norman Nato topped the times with a 2m02.469s set early in the 90-minute session aboard the solo Rebellion R-13-Gibson he shares with Bruno Senna and Gustavo Menezes.
That gave him a margin of just over a second ahead of the ByKolles team's ENSO CLM-Gibson P1/01 in which Oliver Webb posted a 2m03.515s.
The best of the Toyota TS050 Hybrids was the #7 entry which is running the ...Keep reading
Waffle won Final Race

h
lmao
Lmao , vandoorne smash champagne bottle
Well
He got it into the pits
Also was that driver error? I’m not well versed on ovals but it looks like he clipped the grey curb on the inside
yes driver error
touching that doesnt often end well
its angled differently to the tarmac so to touch it takes away downforce and its also not as grippy a material
could have been saved but he turned as soon as he touched it which kinda sealed the deal
then lost grip at the rear trying to correct
also outside the "groove" / the racing line there isnt as much grip so as soon as you're up there it becomes quite hard to get back without either crashing or losing a ton of time
not impossible but if you're going there unexpectedly it goes wrong
infamously shown by jr hildebrand in 2011 which is still a heartbreak to this day
fucking noob alonso
happens most years
macca sp have chevy this year so he has a good chance at being quick

Aubry, Algarve Pro forced to sit out Spa WEC race
A second positive test undertaken at Spa for Aubry, an LMP2 race winner with the JOTA Sport-run team in the 2018/19 WEC, has ruled him out of the Spa 6 Hours.
He was initially tested in Paris earlier in the week, the results of which were positive but inconclusive.
Because the Frenchman raced in the Spa European Le Mans Series round last week with the Algarve Pro Racing ...Keep reading
Spa WEC: Rebellion stays on top in second practice
Gustavo Menezes ended up quickest aboard Rebellion's solo R-13 with a 2m00.878s lap that put the car half a second up on the best of the Toyotas TS050 Hybrids.
The pair of Japanese cars led the way initially before Norman Nato went fastest in the Rebellion with a 2m00.987s, which Menezes then improved upon by a tenth.
A qualifying simulation lap from Brendon Hartley produced a ...Keep reading

Spa WEC: Rebellion tops shortened third practice
Gustavo Menezes sat at the top of the classification with the fastest time of the event so far in the solo Rebellion R-13 when the red flags came out halfway through the one-hour session.
A drain cover had detached itself from the kerbing at Turn 14, and after efforts to effect a quick fix the session was called off with just over 10 minutes left on the clock.

Spa WEC: Rebellion beats the Toyotas to pole
Gustavo Menezes and Norman Nato set a combined average time of 1m59.577s at the wheel of the #1 R-13 to take top spot for the car that has topped every session so far this weekend.
The #8 Toyota shared by Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley was 0.840s down in second, while Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi qualified the sister #7 TS050 Hybrid third ahead of the ByKolles ENSO CLM P1/01.

Brendon Hartley, who qualified second in the #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid together with Kazuki Nakajima, believes that the race pace of the car they share with Sebastien Buemi will give them a shot at victory.

People here on Italy say things like: "Sic put a patch this time for Vale"
I am not a very religious person but damn they could be right...
now that I think about it that might just have been the moment Valentino decides to quit
I've never seen him look so shaken like that before
You know... I don't want to sound like I know what he's thinking...
But he's a MotoGP driver
He has been for more time than anybody else on that grid today
He knows the risks, he even lost a friend because of MotoGP
If it was for things like this He would have retired a long time ago
Even Maverick risked his life when he almost go hit by Dovizioso
And he's still there tho...
Yea I don’t see this being a tipping point tbh
He must’ve been scared shitless but he has legit been through worse, with the whole Simoncelli thing
He’ll be ok. These riders are strong mentally
Everyone would have been shaken after he dodged two bullets literally
That’s so scary to think about. Not one but TWO bikes
And every true driver would keep racing
Yeah... that was not lucky
That was something else...
Exactly. They know the risks. They know that they could die every time they go out and ride. It’s a part of the job. If they aren’t willing to accept that, they maybe aren’t fit for it. The shit that Rossi has seen? I think he’ll be ok. No doubt he was scared in the moment but seriously, who wouldn’t be
Even if it were a small percentage. Even if it was that 1% risk of losing your life. They know the risks of the job

The onboard makes it even scarrier
You could see only the bike flying at god knows what speed
Probably the fact that it would have been...useless?

Yea I’m glad
It really dwells on your mind
Shit like this is like a slap in the face and it really shows that they are still human
Well said
if I were rossi and the other guy I would just retire instantly and buy a lottery ticket with that luck
As if I wasn’t grateful enough for these guys. I love each and every one of them for even jumping onto those scary ass bikes
You can love or hate whatever driver you want
But you must acknowledge that every single one of them has balls of steel and that deserves a bit respect even if you despise a certain driver
For sure
Even F1
I might dislike some
But Jesus, what they do out there? No way can that be ignored

Kaz Grala just finished P7 at nascar cup at daytona road course
it is his first ever race in cup, as a stand-in for a driver with corona

and it was not done all via strategy
fantastic performance
and to add, nascar has not had a cup race at the daytona rc before either

The fuck is happening
Takes a special mindset to want to even get on these bikes and race more after something like this
I agree
t1 at daytona rc is death
i absolutely hate daytona rc
turns are so weird
and annoying
and not enjoyable
I love the road course, so tough
Nice test track for making setups and trying out new cars
tru
But T1 is an absolute bitch
The first horseshoe, the kink, T6, bus stop are all great for me
Only one I dislike is T1 just because so many times I go wide and invalidate my laps
same lol
These dudes are arguing with me in the IndyCar discord that if the yellow didn't come out Dale might not have won the 1998 Daytona 500
I choose to believe their arguments are all invalid as we are doing it in the shitposting channel
I mean, anyone who believes Dale could have lost that race has to have been dropped on the head pretty hard as a baby

Laurent suffered a major shunt at the high-speed Blanchimont corner towards the end of the penultimate hour of the six-hour contest, destroying the #36 Alpine-badged Oreca 07 he shares with Andre Negrao and Pierre Ragues.
It marked the end of a long run of points-scoring finishes in the WEC for the French squad dating all the way back to the 2015 Nurburgring round.

Merhi stays with Eurasia for Le Mans after WEC return
Merhi made his first WEC outing in three years last weekend as he raced alongside Nick Foster and gentleman racer Nobuya Yamanaka in Eurasia's Ligier JS P217 in the LMP2 class.
The trio endured a difficult weekend in one of only two non-Orecas in the field, ending up 18 laps down at the finish due to two lengthy trips to the garage to address gearbox trouble.

@lethal steeple I just read about that earlier today and I think the concept sounds extremely interesting, except for that part about the championship being a mix of real and virtual races
separate esport-championships are one thing, but to mix it with the real driving... doesn't sound very good tbh
wait what
so like
remote cars?
or like
theres a virtual race and then a real race
translated from a German article via DeepL:
"The teams have two drivers for each car - one for the real races and one who will participate in the e-sport events, which are also part of the championship. The results of both races are equally divided in the championship standings so that in the end one team is declared the overall winner of both disciplines."
i mean they still have a few years to develop the concept fully so maybe they'll change it?
Aww when i first read it i thought it would be like gamers controlling actual race cars like a video game
The actual idea is dumb

ByKolles hails "best ever performance" in LMP1 at Spa

The car was able to maintain third position behind the two Toyota TS050 Hybrids until just before the halfway mark of the race.

You think Pol will be able to master the Honda?
I got into MotoGP and F1, full time, at around 2017 btw. Barely knew a thing beforehand and I’m still learning a whole lot
@lethal steeple
I do know about the whole riding style, the bikes best suited for certain riders and so on
Ducati’s move with Dovi was a bad idea. I’m very interested to see how Miller will handle it though
And Bagnaia, fuck

Like how with Marc, they’ve developed the bike to best suit Marc and really, only Marc. Nakagami and Crutchlow might be able to ride them but I don’t think they could get to the bikes full potential like Marc can
You think Pol will be able to master the Honda?
@old snow No
I dont think anyone will be able to tame the Honda bar Nakagami
He's been doing wonders on Sunday
Even better with the other races Moto2 and Moto3
Hard to watch both f1 and motogp though
Right now i’m just watching what i can of motogp live before f1 starts and then watch the rest on replay
Ducati’s move with Dovi was a bad idea. I’m very interested to see how Miller will handle it though
@old snow I was away from the scene when the news broke, no idea what happened but I had the feeling it was going to happen
@lethal yacht alonso can win as long as these boys do well
agreed
@lethal steeple after hearing that they just couldn’t find common ground over and over again?
Yea, you could sense it wouldn’t work out
It’s a lot deeper than just money I believe and it doesn’t surprise me
Apparently, they hadn’t even gotten to the financial talks yet
Aprilia is his only possible choice now
You say that but...
Rossi for Petronas too
Your predictions?
Interesting. Zarco to Pramac Ducati, hmm
You honestly see them gunning for Bagnaia to the factory team?
Lorenzo and Pecco
I’m seeing people say it’s too early
Claudio hates Lorenzo's guts
While Luigi loves him
They certainly don't want Crutchlow back
So like. Only 2 choices for the factory team
Was Crutch a rider for Ducat earlier on?
Oh and Iannone...yeaaaaaa erm
Pramac's rumours is majorly pointing to Jorge Martin, currently contracted to Red Bull KTM, Enea Bastiannini and Luca Marini
Seems so odd to me
Zarco has a contract with Ducati, not Esponsorama btw
I think Ciabatti even confirmed the rumors of them looking into those few
That's why I think they can put him on the Pramac
Don't see him in the factory team because you know what happened last year
How he dipped? Lmao
How did he even do that? Was there a contract clause somewhere that I missed?
My eyes hurt from just looking at that
EHRA Racing
@lethal steeple who’ve you got your money on this year?
Hard to say
I'd kill to have Fabio win it
First ever satellite champion in MotoGP if so
I’d love to see the kid up there
But not without a fight
He doesn’t have to “prove” anything
It would just be sooooo fucking awesome to see him battle it out with Marc
We've had many years where it was possible
2004, 2005 and 2006 were big ones
the factory Honda was nowhere as good as the satellite teams until 2006
he's alive
Imagine if Rossi was 0.1 second faster
god
would be WAY more tragic
miracle that everyones alive
I'd kill to have Fabio win it
@lethal steeple honestly same, just someone other than Marquez
im sure glad i can see it
Is "air fence" the same as catch fence?
think so
I'm not sure how to imagine the change tbh
you mean like the one that Zarco's bike flew through
dang!
hot...
those huge bars that go through the middle of the "kidneys" look a bit odd. I'm wondering if that's something safety-related?
that looked funnier that it probably should
what an idiot
I did this on rfactor

DA RECESHUN
America moment
Everyone who loves old NASCAR knows that the chase, cookie cutters, and the loss of Dale killed NASCAR, but people like her are always like "but ratings were still high!!!1!1!" Of course they were, because longtime fans were lenient and gave the sport 4 years to go back to normal before they left.
I'm planning on getting into WRC next month when it return. I'm well familiar with the Irish Rally Championship, but what should I need to know about WRC before watching it?
I just recommend the app or smth so u can follow when stages start and if u don’t have anything to watch it on there’s a discord with wrc streams
All u need to know is the cars are cool as fuck👍🏻
can I get a link to the discord with all the streams on it?
I'm planning on getting into WRC next month when it return. I'm well familiar with the Irish Rally Championship, but what should I need to know about WRC before watching it?
@glad lance the biggest difference between WRC and most local/national championships is that in a WRC-Rallye, the last stage is the so-called "Power Stage". Drivers can earn points based on their stage-standings just like in e.g. a F1 race.
So even if you're dead last in the overall Rallye standings you can get many points by being quickest in the Power Stage

Kawasaki have had their hand at MotoGP, right?
But they don’t have the funds and it didn’t go well for them
It could've went marvellously in 2009 had they not withdrawn
they had The bike
and a killer lineup
Hopkins-Melandri
only if they get millions of investment
not anymore
Ducati, Honda, BMW, Yamaha have catched up to Kawasaki
majorly just Ducati
Redding and Bautista are now in the game
Hot
The back is so thin
dorna forced kawasaki to stay one more year in motogp, because their contract was until 2010 before the withdraw due to the recession, in change of having their name completely removed with the bike being auctioned to potential privateers
Interesting backstory. So they just couldn’t afford it anymore?
yeah, the recession fucked kawasaki hard
they actually could afford to continue until 2010
Damn. No team sponsors?
he managed 2nd place with the kawa
if it had factory support it could've possibly even win

Speaking to motogp.com pitlane reporter Simon Crafar on Saturday at the BMW M Grand Prix of Styria, Ducati Corse Sporting Director confirmed that the Bologna factory will decide who will partner Jack Miller in the factory Ducati Team in 2021 “before Misano.”
Ohhhh shiiiit
Chatting to Crafar during MotoGP™ FP4, Ciabatti confirmed Ducati and Bagnaia have agreed a new two-year deal. Ciabatti also said that Zarco will also be continuing with Ducati in 2021. However, Ciabatti affirmed that he and Ducati are still deciding who to put in the factory team.
“Yeah, it’s true we agreed a deal with Pecco for two years. It’s too early to say if it’s with Pramac or the factory team. We also continue with Johann Zarco and will make up our minds just before Misano.”
so its either so its either Pecco or Zarco, no Lorenzo
