Regarded by some as one of the greatest F1 races ever.
And this puts a cap on 2010 caps folks. What a great year it has been. Looking forward to bringing you guys some more great stuff in 2011! Big thanks to all my subscribers. You guys make this possible and enjoyable.
"There's a Formula 2 race running concurrently"
so, they ran F2 and F1 at the same time sometimes?
lit
yes
yes, i think 1967 was the last time they did, Ickx finished like 4th of the total race with a F2 car
no, Jackie Oliver (founder of Arrows) and he finished 5th. Another F2 driver finished 7th, and with all of that Guy Ligier (founder of well, Ligier) got 1 pt by finishing only 8th of the race, but 6th of the F1 cars
i was looking at the 1964 Spa race
and the last 2 laps are something
so basically
Gurney domiantes the race when he has issues with fuel. Team thinks he has enough left so they make him do the last lap. (Also because brabham had no extra petrol in their hands)
Graham Hill who then takes the lead runs out of fuel while leading on the last lap which would give gurney the lead, but he ran out of fuel a few corners behind
Bruce McLaren then has the lead and he then runs out of fuel on the S/F straight and Clark passes him and wins
Clark doesn't know he's won so he then runs out of fuel in the middle of the track. Lotus sent out one of their cars to try and find him
The officals accidentally throw the checkquered flag to about a few people who were a lap behind

@rustic helm honestly that mclaren livery looks wrong with a peugeot logo
the one on the nose or that on the bottom of the airbox?
both tbh
can anyone identify this car?
it's a single seater le mans-like prototype apparently from Audi, but I can't find anything like that
looks like what can-am became before its death

@old herald
oooooh thank you very much!
is it just me or does the bit in the middle front of the car look like a indycar?

most people only know this car because michael schumacher drove it for a few races
sorry if I sound a bit harsh, but I'm just speaking from my point of view
I've literally never been in an F1 community so I don't really know what the legit fanbase is like

as far as the 1991 Jordan goes, a bit late but methinks that Schumi driving it brought it a fair bit more attention too

Beautiful car
@bright current

@zenith tundra learnt something interesting, Williams was eager to use the Matra V6T they had conceived for 82 (i guess, could be it was made in 82), but it was thrown in the bin because of political reasons in France. Heard about this already,
๐
man i would love to have seen the matra if it was a reality
also i was intruiged on why in 82 Osella were close to Ferrari
the two Enzos
o
if only they supported ferrari engines to osella
it would have been a greater expeirence to the alfa romeo
I think ole Commendatore was not ready to supply other teams with his beloved engines. First supply was with Dallara after he died iirc
I've seen that background so many times ๐

this photo gives me internal sadness
it was very 1984
they took out the turbo adjusters on the cars cus they didn't trust their drivers
only reno did it i think
and fair enuf, cus they kept blowing up the engines
It was weird because Alfa Romeo right before the great year of 1985
got a podium in Monza somehow
that ferrari can say kachoow anytime
What track is that in the first photo?

Might anyone know when these cans are from? Found in a museum
can you touch them
oh
I guess it says melbourne and not adelaide so they must be from the late 90s
They left F1 at the end of 2006
so the cans have to be between 1986 and 2006 ish
i'd take a gander at it likely being between 2002โ2006 as thats when they were title sponsors for Australian GP
and that coincides with 2000-2006 and their title sponsorship with the british grand prix
trying to find out more information, but don't have much more to go on
I thought they were title sponsors for like, way longer than that. I remember fosters sponsoring the aus gp way back in the 80s but i guess i was wrong
but it's definitely between 2002-2006
melbourne was only introduced to f1 from 1996 onward
fosters sponsored the 1993 australian grand prix but did not until 2000
Yeah i know i thought you meant the aus gp as a whole
Your theory makes sense though, thanks for the help
1986โ1993, 2002โ2006: Foster's Australian Grand Prix
1990, 1993, 2000โ2006: Foster's British Grand Prix
The graphics and font look early 2000s ish too
they're also likely to be from different years
so it may actually be that all 4 in the first picture are from 2002-2006 in order
I donโt think they were lined up exactly in order
That's an old car?
Looks so modern
it's before 2000 so yes
I thought it was modern at first too lol
its a mclaren f1
it low-key seems that a lot of 90s stuff seems to look timeless, especially certain cars
anyway
late 90s sportscars look extremely modern
^
the 911 gt1 is another timeless car
Ligier moment.
I was going to post a Toleman but I guess Ligier came up so, Ligier Moment it is.

This car gave some guy named Ayrton Senna his kickstart.
Wonder what he got up to later on. ๐ค
Well I know once or twice he crashed out Prost
Dunno what happened to him after that
Oh he did?
Yeah a few times
Think he got disqualified after one of em and it caused some kind of points fuss
Seems pretty good though.
Havenโt seen him drive.
LMR 12?
yeah but not surprising
the road is cobblestone, not proper asphalt like today, and the cars neither have the aerodynamic grip nor the mechanical grip of today's cars - just look at those slim tyres!
think they couldn't manufacture wide tyres then
pre WW2 Auto Union (Audi) with the V16 engine had dual rear wheels to make it happen
engine in mid central position as well, since it was designed by Porsche
since that image appears to be from goodwood, are you sure that's original?
two years ago in the hillclimb race in my town a really old BMW F2 car participated and the commentator explained that it used dual tyres like in that pic because there was no way to get the original wider rear tyres
ah, good point, i don't know really
1x slim rear
2x slim
this one seems wider, but the legend says it's from 1937
ah neat

things were a bit diffrent
i know this is cherry picking a season but it's not liek Ferrari had constent great tenure execpt the mid 70s to early 80s with the exepction of the 1980 season
you would have seasons like 72 and 73 were their car was nowhere as good as the trio of Lotus Tyrrell and McLaren and generally ferrari never really had a good time pre the whole reset button that was the 1974 season
is it ok to continue here or in #formula-1 ?

the first pic, that's the 95 or 96 model?
both are 96
for high-downforce tracks 95 had a full shark fin, 96 had just an extra wing like what you see in the 1st pic
ok
the very high early side protections for the head are funky
yeah, kind of adds to the weirdness and charm of them, they are like this weird in-between of the older 1993-1995 cars and the "modern" 1997/1998-2003 cars
The low nose 1996 ferrari does look kind of cool to me in a funky way
