incredible machine
I love your pics
is that from a game
Don’t think so
no that's a picture
what happened there @zenith tundra
Looks like Brambilla launching off the kerbs somewhere, probably? But I'm interested in the details too. Is that the 761?
https://twitter.com/VAircooled/status/646776145531113473 apparently it was in Watkins Glen in 75 but that's all I found
@monzasgorilla Dijon 1974 & Watkins Glen 1975. Vittorio Brambilla.
was captioned as 99
ah
That's rad
love your pics
Lauda in a March?
yes thats where he started his career
Know what race specifically this is from?
I was kind of a fan of the 721 FWIW
It's... Interesting?
Oh wait, is that at Monaco?
this isn't the monaco hairpin
could be
That should be the one where Beltoise won?
oh it actually is the monaco hairpin
interesting to see it without the huge hotel in the background
Grand Prix de Monaco Formula 1, 14. Mai 1972
25 cars grid wow
There were some big grids through the years
They had pre-quali for a while just to limit out some of the entries of races
Jean-Pierre Jabouille is comentating , amazing
yeah I know that sometimes there were like more than 30 cars and that's why there was the 107% rule so that the slow teams were not allowed in the race
also 3 - 2 - 3 - 2 grid lane spacing
Better version of scots pic🥰
that was insane tbf
he lost his eye in 1971 iirc
when he drove for BRM at the French GP
or 1972.
he won at Le Mans in 1971
with Porsche
this is monaco 1972
ok so he had his acident in 1972 🙂
Jean-Pierre Beltoise in the lead !
won't spoil you
Marko only has one eye?
nowadays, yes. at least only one that works
god I love that colour scheme, ironic because it belongs to a company that kills millions
but when you see Senna's MP4/4 at Monaco, Donnington or Brasil. You don't even care
It's not ironic imo
The Audi 5-cylinder turbo engine is one of the best sounding engine sounds in the world! Audi RS Moments of Truth - 5 cylinder engine 1989 2190cc - 20v - 5 ...
featuring sexual music and i’m not talking about the car sound
Not this again
Porsche was such a good engineer
putting the engine in the back, i think he was the one who came up with this idea
Nah, Benz did it in the 19th century
Autocar Company Inc was the first to employ a mid-engine design in 1901
But, for general rear mount, Benz was soing it for decades before Ferdinand Porsche
Grandpa Ferdinand may have picked up the concept when he was working for Benz though...
I'm not sure on the history of that, just seems like it could have been a possibility to me. Engineers are bad about unseeing design concepts
But did they use this position because of the weight distribution then ? Not too sure.
Benz? Probably not initially, but I'm sure they would have noted an advantage in it by at least the 30s when they were still using the application. Autocar I think specifically designed theirs for weight distribution and torque purposes though

does that pic exist in higher resolution?
I'd love to read the text
ah, found it! https://i.redd.it/ajgpzqvjwuvz.jpg that design would be 4.5 meters long. Isn't that still shorter than current cars?
Current length is over 5m
that's crazy
Lego brick on the back
Is that a 751?
yep
They did a lot of wonky shit with the rear wing for that car
they were trying things
We lost Herd this year, I dunno if I remembered to post that this summer when I saw he died
lost his life yesterday rip
this car looks so good
now that's a sexy looking bike
Thin tyres lol
Very much so
is that Gilles Villeneuve?
it is him
such a sexy car
that moment when u. a ngery

I was thinking about it
When Ferrari introduced their new engines in 1976 in France or somewhere, didn’t it caused major problems at the back of the car
They just hadn't tested them
Lauda had a broken crank shaft, while Rega had another issue with his engine
bad quality but david leslie giving the camera a thumbs up during the 1992 toca shootout at 120 mph battling for the lead lol
rip
toca shootout was pretty interesting
it was almost a race purely for fun
was after the end of the season for no championship points, just for a money prize which was 12,000 in 92
in 93 it featured mr mansell himself
and his crash lmao
Originally captured by rustyfan
the crowd to see mansell was fairly massive i’m p sure
bring back the naughties!!
https://youtu.be/b7OWSo2R2l4 this is pretty much a 15 min video showing mansells race
The 1993 BTCC ToCA Shootout at Donington Park, starring Nigel Mansell in a works Ford Mondeo.
the onboard of the crash is kinda scary cus you never really hear what a driver says while crashing but you can very clearly there
and it was a giant shunt into concrete that knocked him out
That’s enough 90s btcc for me
ah i remember that mansell shunt
it was tiff from TG back in the day that rear ended him lol
mansells fault thou after getting into a massive tank slapper
ye couldn’t bring those cars back in a straight line with no power steering if u over correct
just ended up in his path
isn't it the newspaper from Superman?
yeah, but I doubt it's the same thing on the car
since the Superman one is fictional

what is the man(lying) doing?
It's two person bike racing, he's using the gravity and whatnot to make the bike turn the way they want it to and whatnot
I'm not very technical into it but that's my basic understanding
Sidecar racing, they're providing the force to pull the bike
Those co-drivers in sidecare racing are insane

Jaysus thats a pretty car
Anyone remember that fatal crash of Niki Lauda?
the one where he didn't die ?
^
The non-fatal fatal crash
Anyways I think everyone does, it’s one of the most ‘iconic’ crashes of F1’s history
I wouldn’t really want to call a crash so but you know what I mean, and yes it should’ve been fatal but the only reason it wasn’t was because drivers stopped
Dunno if modern drivers would stop if something like that happend
i’d like to think so
Nowadays they likely wouldn't have to since at modern up-to-date race tracks, especially F1 tracks, have excellent medical workers and track marshalls whi are trained for this type of stuff.
wat tf
I thought the tank thing was his head for a moment
hmm
How even?
Formula 3 crash
So what happened was that a driver went straight into a busstop, the race officials didn't delay the start of the formula 3 race to clear debris, so when this driver went off in the same corner he hit the busstop in a way that made it act like a ramp
Here's the full Story:
Blandford was one of multiple British racetracks at the time that was essentially an adaptive re-use of army facilities from WWII. Unlike most other circuits of this nature, though, Blandford wasn't an airfield, but rather a regular army camp, and the roads used were perimeter roads around the circuit.
It was one of the fastest tracks in Britain then, with F3 cars reaching dizzying speeds of over 100 mph. You may laugh at that now, but back then it was terrifying, and on one May day, Blandford earned that reputation of a dangerous track when Gordon Woods struck a bus shelter on the outside of the track during a sportscar event, with Woods succumbing to his injuries later.
That sportscar race was in the morning, though, and there were plenty more events to be run, like the F3 race going on later. With no time between the races, the now-demolished bus shelter was left in its ruined state, Wood's sportscar was cleared, and the F3 cars took the track.
One of them was Peter Braid, a Major in the army who took up motor racing fairly recently, and already managed to win a few F3 races. On this day he would also be on top. Just not on top of a podium, but a house.
He lost control of his car at the same point that Woods did earlier in the day and headed towards the same bus shelter. However, with the bus shelter in it's current state, it acted like a ramp for Braid, launching his car into the air and on top of the old battalion headquarters, coming to rest precariously perched on the edge of the roof.
Miraculously, Braid escaped relatively uninjured, but it could have been much worse. There was a light pole next to the Headquarters he avoided, he could've smashed into the building, into the ditch preceding the building, and even landing on the roof, he was lucky to land right-side up.
And the best bit, the car was left on the roof for the remainder of the day, spooking other drivers as they continued racing.
lucky man
@worthy flicker 92 finale up there?
definitely spa? it looks like zandvoort to me
Yeah looks like zandvoort around like turns 10-12

Stefan Bellof at the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix. He died in 1985 while racing at Spa.
Cool shot, his Nürburgring lap record stood for 35 years I think
When I went to imola
He still has the lap record
Well Porsche and Timo Bernhard by nearly a minute with the 919 Hybrid Evo, although it counts as an unofficial record @lapis delta
Bellof’s time will probably remain the quickest in racing conditions forever
The lap record is always under an official session
Bellof did his in qualifying with traffic. The 919 did it on a clear track with a car that had absolutely no regulations.
Exactly that’s why it’s unofficial
track record is during any session
lap record is during official FIA sanctioned races

Hapless Tyrrell driver Ricardo Rosset wages war on two fronts: first against the tortuous twists and turns of Monaco's brutal, barrier-beset boulevards, and secondly against mathematics itself, in the form of the dreaded 107% rule. Who will win?
fun fact (it may have been said in the commentary there though, but will post it here anyway): the Tyrrell engineers supposedly changed the letters on Ricardo Rosset's moped saying "ROSSET" to "TOSSER" after the incidents here

Before 2019 id say, mods?
Right
Well what is the idea of Classic, it can be different for different people. If its just something from the past, than 2019 counts? But if before 1999 that also makes sense.
A better way of looking at it is probably just something thats not fresh, or recent in history, so 1999 is fair.
and in that case....
we have #formula-1 for everything related F1 in the last few years and #monaco-gp for the stuff about upcomming season

Center of gravity things
also the feet placement was wack then
crash the front and your legs at the same time
ow
Or have the axles/suspension driven through you legs/feet in a side impact
Hence the shift of the foot position behind the front axle
ye that's what i meant
i believe it was more for frontal crashes that they were moved rly
foot injuries were a big thing
But, the more recumbent seating position is designed to reduce drag and lower center of gravity\
yeah
funny how nobody tried this before Gordon Murray
they were basically lying down in the 60s cars
but once they put wings and sidepods they stopped it completely
Changing design concept and control of things like center of pressure, mechanical balance

The saddest bit is that he could of gotten a podium as well because of the high number of retirements.

the Lancer and the F1-2000
now that is a duo that I can approve of
name a more iconic duo, I'll wait
2000 or 1999 ?
2000 it seems
judging by the white front wing on the Ferrari
that and Mitsubishi used the Evo VI from 1999 to 2001
I thought the 2000 Ferrari had a rounder nosetip
No cause this one also has a curved nose
oh
Didn't know the f399 still had a black front wing though, for some reasons I thought it was white already
yeah it did, though the FedEx logos were white
is it time for a Stratos
yeah I guess
always
posted the 98 Lancer as it seems kinda unappreciated
it's usually always either the Evo VI or VII in games for example and such
