Prisoner of War (POW)
POWs are defined as anyone who is a members of a nation's armed forces or in a militia with all of these four distinctions:
- Command structure
- Distinctive signs or uniform
- Carrying arms openly
- Following laws of war
Commander
The leader of the unit, interchangeable with the Acting Commander.
Acting Commander
The person acting in the place of the commander.
Command Staff
Personnel holding senior leadership positions responsible for planning, oversight, and command of operations, including the Commander and subordinate officers.
Delegated Command
The temporary transfer of authority from a superior officer to a subordinate.
Area of Operations (AO)
The designated zone in which operations are being conducted. This is generally considered anywhere outside of your faction's vessel/installation.
Rules of Engagement (ROE)
Directives that define when, where, and how force may be used.
Hostile Personnel
Any individual or group demonstrating intent or capability to inflict harm on personnel, civilians or objectives.
Non-Combatant
Individuals not actively participating in hostilities, generally civilians.
Protected Persons
Civilians, medical personnel, surrendering combatants and any individual otherwise safeguarded under the laws of war.
Lethal Force
Force intended or reasonably expected to cause death or serious bodily harm.
Non-Lethal Force
Force intended to incapacitate or compel compliance without causing death. Less-than-lethal weapons that still deal minor amounts of damage such as baton rounds are counted as Non-Lethal force.
Secure Area
Any location defended by your faction that has at least one full line of fortifications or five or more posted guards.
Personnel
All members of the applicable faction.
Auxiliary Staff/Support Crew
Non combat roles that provide logistical, police, medical, or engineering support.
Flight Crew
Pilots and Dropship Crew Chief.
Third-Party Personnel
Individuals or groups not affiliated with the primary factions (OPFOR/GOVFOR/CLF) involved in the operation.
Dropship
A large transport aircraft used to deploy or extract personnel.
Fighter
A smaller aircraft used for CAS, utility and small scale transport.
Combat Information Center (CIC)
The command and control hub of a ship or installation.
Special Weapon
Any weapon not issued to general members of the faction, usually acquired from the special weapons vendor.
