The overlays themselves show alerts in multiple ways (image, hype cup, kappagen, event list), stream labels (the text for like latest subscriber), and stream goals. You then put this in as a browser source in your broadcasting software, and it "over-lays" what you are currently doing

Hi guys! I set up GroundControl and made a separate twitch account for my to be Bot. I also inserted the Oauth from the bot account. But when I press Test Bot it won't show my custom bot. If I Disable Custom Bot it shows the SE bot in my chat. What am I doing wrong?

Someone donated to my wife's stream, about $15 but the amount doesn't appear in paypal.
It was done via the streamelements tip page. (I confirmed with the guy, the paypal email is correct and he couldn't have known it otherwise and he definitely didn't refund it)

We dont touch any money from donations. Either the payment didnt go through, which it sounds like it did go through.
Or the email in the donation settings is incorrect which is why it wasnt recieved on your end

Usually paypal stuff shows up in a few moments..also you would have gotten an email about the transaction.
I would doublecheck the email in the tipping settings for your wifes stream - if its correct and its still not showing up have the donator refund the money.
But yeah we just provide a visual element (webpage) for tips, all the money handling etc is all done via paypal, we never see anything. @olive bloom

Make sure when you put it into the broadcasting sofware you put in the widget at 1920, and height at 1080, then hit CTRL+f
If you don't change the width and height, it defaults to 800x600, and you will get the blurryness when you try to fit it to the screen

@nimble zinc you just need to refresh the cache on the overlay. This can be done a couple ways. 1. If you have "Shutdown when not visible" checked, then you just need to hide then unhide the overlay. 2. If you don't have that, then double click the source, scroll down, and click refresh

Unfortunately, since you are streaming straight from a PS4 this is not going to be possible. It would require doing something like having a dedicated streaming PC with a capture card. With this the capture card will get the output from the PS4, and you can then use broadcasting software (like OBS) to add the overlay to composite the video output for your stream

Hello, I have a quick question and it may be really dumb but I want to know if something in my settings is off or if it’s normal. Does stream elements’ alerts go off when the stream is offline? When I test the follow button in my overlay everything works fine but when I ended my stream, someone followed my channel and I still had OBS running but nothing came through. Nothing showed on the activity feed through the app on my desktop either, I just got a notification via email. Very curious. Thank you!

Oh lol. It wasn’t a follow it was a subscription. Even better. But shouldn’t that come up still too? Along with 10 bits they donated ? I used stream labs in the past and just to test out I went on their feed and it showed the two items. Something may be wrong in my overlay or settings. For it not to refresh correctly.

For twitch prime, the user needs to have sharing enabled on https://www.twitch.tv/settings/prime. It's because after someone becomes an affiliate, we need to enable subs and cheers in your streamelements account and that requires logging out and back in to refresh the connection between twitch and StreamElements.
You most likely were still recognized in our system as non-affiliate when that cheer went through
If you see cheers and subs on your SE dashboard now, then from now on you'll receive those activities. (subs need to be shared as mentioned above)

You can add their name as the latest subscriber manually

Yeah. Have all that setup. I'll just go to my custom bot I setup via the stream elements ground control and follow my stream to test if I get a new activity on the feed. Wait 10 mins or so and if it doesn't pop up something else may be wrong.

But why not set your streaming resolution to 1080x720 so the overlays work?
Many people stream games that are 4:3 no need to make the whole stream resolution 4:3 just have letterboxes left and right is still ok in my belives

if you must stream on 4:3 set the overlay to 720p like Kiwa said and on the game capture source press Ctrl+F so it fills screen, it will distort but look better than black bars on the sides @knotty lagoon

Yes, the resolution is the canvas size (the green background in the overlay editor). Whatever it is, the browser source dimensions in OBS must match.
The alertbox is just a part within the whole browser source page

I have 2 overlays, 1 for in game and 1 for lobby ( league of legends)
and my lobby seems to work fine
but my in game doesnt work because my lobby will "overlap" the in game overlay
whenever I try to change the url of my in game browser source it will change back to the url of the lobby overlay

setup 2 scenes, one lobby with lobby overlay in it
another one named game with game overlay and also the game capture
when adding both sources, don't use existing one, make a new one
if you use an existing one, it's same instance so whenever you change url it changes on all browser sources using that source on all scenes
