Projected feasibility: 2/10
Impact: Significant. I believe reworking the way supply works would greatly add to the routine of operating the Nest, making you plan firemissions in advance and keep stock of your ammunition, think about positioning and threat from the enemy.
Detailed description: The idea lies in the fact that a walking turret with 800mm rounds would be a nightmare to keep supplied by truck.
So, to counteract that, I have thought of the following: When requesting materiel, shells and gunpowder should be moved by rail to designated depots, instead of instantly teleporting to your Nest.
The implementation would include railways and depots being present on the map in predetermined or randomized positions.
Upon request the player would send a communique to command requesting a shipment of required shells to a depot of the players choosing. After the request, a train with supplies will arrive to the depot and unload, leaving the supplies present for the player to pick up.
The player would direct the nest to approach the depot and load up on shells.
If the player decides to loiter in the vicinity of the depot, or fire upon the enemy while close to it, the ensuing counter battery fire may damage or destroy the depot, rendering it inoperable, adding the risk/reward factor to staying by a supply depot.
Extra information:
Conditions: On prolonged missions it will add an element of planning and positioning, making you keep your nest on the move, which I believe has a great value of discouraging complacency in gameplay.
Rarity: Depending on specifics of missions, it may or may not play a role if the mission is designed with the Nest deep within friendly lines, for example. However playing to the mobile nature of Iron Nest, I believe, would be a very immersive experience.
Effect: It grounds the Nest as a behemoth that is tough to take care of. Makes you really appreciate how HUGE THIS THING IS.
