I think it was about the fact the game is already a bit cartoonish in it's art direction, so a grinning Angel with a beanie felt like it was only adding onto that.
Which is understandable. The beanie itself is not out of place in a war setting, and actually really works as shown in that screenshot. It just comes down to the tone.

If Angel wasn't shouting the most out of place voice lines during the EoR sequence, I don't think anyone would have cared about it.

Rack up all the kills but it still shows the locked sign on the attachment even though the task has been completed
