I think the main reason this isnt immersion breaking in other games is the presentation. In previous games little attention is drawn to a character's identity other than nationality, usually by having face coverings and generic personalities.

Meanwhile, 2042 actively tells its players that "this is a specific character in the lore, they act like this, and there is only one of them" which makes it both harder for the player to project themselves onto the character, and also makes seeing clones far more jarring

I found a reason I’m inclined to believe as it’s the same for battlefront 2, since bf2’s and bf2042’s conquest modes were reduced to the same bot count but the breakthrough equals seem untouched, it seems to be a method to allow players to actually win games, as conquest in both were notoriously difficult to beat due to how the ai swarm points and turn them into meat grinders through small lanes. This isn’t as big of an issue in breakthrough

The logic they use to direct the bots seem to be a seek and destroy model where they look for each other as best as they can, which can cause issues when they are spread around everywhere

A while back dice did internal testing that showed 32 and 64 player games were the best for bf yet they went with 128 anyways

They focused on battlefield moments so much they forgot to make the battlefield game

I think because of fans who played games like hell let loose or massive multiplayer ww2 that they keep asking why hasn’t battlefield done it.

A friend told me that breakthrough did indeed survive dice’s wrath on solo mode and still supports 64 bots

Anyone able to confirm? I’m not able to play for a while

I like 128 players but :

1. They need to optimize it better
2. breakthrough with 128 players sucks
3. On the other hand, the conquest with 128 players is pretty cool
4. 128 players would work much better with a class system that for some reason they have decided to remove

I don’t know why but only when I play the medic class is when I actually enjoy Battlefield the most
