In the end it comes down to how they set up the destruction. And in battlefield i am sure it is CPU friendly. Many engines does support GPU particles which would be the best to use for debris instead of simulating 1000s of fractured parts of a mesh. But if you look at example UE4 and chaos that can use a lot actual mesh fractures and still run well
