We we're actually talking about both shouldn't, and couldn't. For example if you take the Build engine, getting staircases ontop of another staircase, and hooking up a corridor requires a ton of hacking. Ion Fury was basically built as one giant hack. Build engine is great because it can support large open environments, provide a ton of intractability with the environment, but is an absolute pain in the ass to work with. Trying to emulate it with a more modern engine is nowhere near the same as the feeling, or even visually it will be really off.
