@snow snow is the rest of their PC up to date? like are they on the latest windows 10?

#

i know at some point one of the nvidia drivers wouldn't install unless you were on the latest windows version, so if its saying there are no updates perhaps that might be causing it?

#

but i think that was sometime around the fall creators update in like october

So i have a question...I have just purchased this game recently and i am having trouble running this game bc of my bottleneck. I have a GTX 1070 8gb i5 6500 3.2ghz 8gb ram single channel. Any suggestions or youtube videos that will help with extreme optimization.

#

Getting new hardware this year just wanna be able to play well before then.

molten bramble
#

Seems like the specs are just enough to meet minimums. Are you asking about settings or are you trying to overclock your machine?

#

Oh, 6500 vs 6600, on mobile and didn’t catch it.

covert heron
#

that single channel ram isn't helping either

molten bramble
#

Not much difference until you get into overclockjng it looks like, then the 6600 takes off.

steep gust
#

@covert folio undervolt the CPU and let it draw more power

#

If you have an open RAM slot then add another stick

#

Let the GPU draw more power (if you can keep it cool)

unique copper
#

Anyone good here regarding networking issues? Lol

molten bramble
#

😮

keen forge
#

What network issues @unique copper?

molten bramble
#

@unique copper could you be more specific?

unique copper
#

Right, i have 350 mbps internet and 25 upload usually. So i have had zero issues in a very, very, very long time playing on the east coast in America with my friend and all of a sudden my ping has gone from 89-92 (great days) to 115-119 for no god damn reason. I stopped playing bf for nearly 2 weeks to play the red dead redemption beta, but i can't ask EA, people here because they've ignored me or on the forums because i have to have an account connected to Origin.
Have they moved the servers?

molten bramble
#

Are you playing EU servers perhaps?

#

I have a 4ms ping on average on NA servers, but if I play EU I am about 50-65ms.

unique copper
#

I can play on my servers, i just want to know why the hell the ping is 119 all of a sudden on EC when it's been fine for a year + lol.

keen forge
#

Oh man EU servers

#

They are something else

unique copper
#

My friend can't play on mine, as he's in America and would get 147 ping

keen forge
#

Hey, if you get 160+ ping it gives you a little “where to aim” marker to account for it xD

unique copper
#

My ping on EU is 33/34 or 36 sometimes, but it's so annoying not having normal ping and i've asked my ISP about faults but none are there

#

I was wondering if they'd moved the servers or some crap

#

To ourofmyreachville lol

#

*out

molten bramble
#

So you’re in EU or NA?

keen forge
#

In England I get good ping but the lag icon things occasionally, I think the servers are just a little stressed or whatever

molten bramble
#

On mobile, roles don’t show for me.

unique copper
#

EU, trying to play East coast servers with a friend

#

As i said my ping used to be 92 there, now it's unreal

molten bramble
#

Hmm, I used to have that trouble on both Deutsch Telekom and O2 wireless.

unique copper
#

Punishment for me playing the red dead beta lol

molten bramble
#

It was something with issue at their DSLAM on the first one, on the second, just poor coverage.

unique copper
#

Was fine 2 weeks ago and now it's just plain bad. No packet loss and i am not trying to play during peak US times either

molten bramble
#

That’s weird. Does any other game service or website lag?

unique copper
#

For me, no just BF 1. I tried to change my nat type but that was just annoying

#

Only on East Coast the lag happens for obvious reasons, but 115 is not playable because everyone is a ninja

molten bramble
#

Might be a NAT issue, or you could just be getting throttled by the provider.

unique copper
#

Apparently i have no caps etc from my provider

molten bramble
#

Are you wireless in the home or wired?

unique copper
#

Wired

molten bramble
#

All appropriate ports open? Any port mapping?

unique copper
#

Nope, tried to do that also but it made me crazy lol

#

Wanted nat type 1 as it's the best apparently, i'm using nat 2 now

#

Always have been on nat 2

prime jasper
#

Hey is this where we can post about the issues we're having?

molten bramble
#

There are some websites out there that have walk-through a on ports for routers.

#

@prime jasper if tech related yes

unique copper
#

Yeah, i saw them but my god my head wanted to explode

prime jasper
#

I got Battlefield V for Xbox and everything was great but now I'm not gaining progress for achievements, reviving squad teammates and capturing the flag don't credit the achievements?

molten bramble
#

@unique copper Well, you’re not really helping your situation then by eliminating the immediate possibilities.

unique copper
#

I tried to PF and DMZ, but after looking at guides it seems they are old because the screenshots do not match my router page

molten bramble
#

@prime jasper For something like that, you might want to ask in #battlefield-legacy-titles to see if anyone else has encountered it, but otherwise EA Answers HQ is your best bet.

#

Heavily appreciated man, thanks!

molten bramble
#

No worries

keen forge
#

Assignment issues are/were a huge issue recently - don’t know if they fixed

unique copper
#

I'm just confused as hell, because it was fine 100% then it just went up like a rocket on the ping. Even at Christmas when everyone had holidays i had no issues lol

#

EU = great because they are my servers... East Coast = annoying

molten bramble
#

@unique copper You need to take your time and use a little of the ole noggin buddy, scrub through the most similar bits. Packet filtering and port assignments are two different things, work with the latter and leave the other alone.

unique copper
#

I'll try port forwarding

molten bramble
#

Ah, port forwarding. PF for me means packet filtering.

unique copper
#

Having nat type 1 apparently makes every game better, but i only need it for bf 1 lol. Because GTA, red dead etc etc all work perfectly

molten bramble
#

I don’t think port forwarding will be necessary, just open the appropriate ports unless you have statically assigned internal routing.

#

What router are you using?

unique copper
#

Well, i run my router via the "hub" my isp gave me because the wi-fi from said "hub" is crap. Asus ac3200

#

Triband

molten bramble
#

And do you have a factory or alternative firmware?

unique copper
#

Factory

#

Upgraded it recently and it's still the same for bf, not like that would do anything lol. Also, i have tried bf 1 via my internet service providers "hub" and the ping remains at 115-119

molten bramble
#

The hub sounds like a modem and WiFi combined device.

unique copper
#

Yeah, it's in modem mode now so i can use my router

molten bramble
#

Do you need a router between them?

#

Do you have more than one machine?

#

Most modems have their own DHCP service embedded.

unique copper
#

Well, the hub has the internet coming through it so i need to use an ethernet for my router to get internet

molten bramble
#

Have you tried removing the router and direct connecting to the modem to eliminate the possibility of a janky device?

unique copper
#

Yeeep, tried that and resetting everything

#

Factory resets i mean as well as switching it on and off

molten bramble
#

No difference?

unique copper
#

Still 119 mega ping lol

molten bramble
#

You connected your eth0 to the modem, no router in between you’re saying?

unique copper
#

Connected my ps4 to the "hub" for the direct connection, but the ping is still high. Got my router connected (which i plug my ps4 into) and it's still high

molten bramble
#

Sounds like the bottleneck is your ISP. I would suspect either interference on the lines (that happens as lines degrade or are damaged), you’re being throttled by the ISP, or the lanes at the server (or somewhere in between) are being capped.

unique copper
#

This hub device has 2 modes, one has the wi-fi turned on and you can use it for a solid connection too. I have it in "modem mode" so the wi-fi is off via said device and i use my own router. But you have to plug a router into the hub to get the internet connection/wi-fi. I have looked and i have no caps etc or faults, i think it's the bf servers

molten bramble
#

See if your ISP has a different subnet they can swap you to perhaps? Most ISPs worth their salt are multi-homed.

unique copper
#

I'll ask them to perform checks again, because it's not normal

molten bramble
#

If it’s BF/EA load-balancing, then there is probably no solution since I would imagine they would be attempting to manage saturation.

steep gust
#

Check your router / modem settings to make sure everything looks okay

unique copper
#

I'll try just using the "hub" for port forwarding and see if that works

#

As it seems a lot easier to do than on my router

molten bramble
#

I’ve not dealt with your router myself, but I am sure there is a write up somewhere. Just takes patience to go through it and familiarize yourself with the terminology.

latent light
#

$380 spent on a guitar, could of gotten a rtx 2060

#

coarse nimbus

@steep gust so yeah undid the sata cable last night plugged back in then it just sat on the mobo loading screen not booting.. so I unplugged the sata and power and restarted and everything was fine.

Perhaps I'll have to find another sata cable and try it again.

If the HDD went bad it would show black section of the partition instead if the Normal blue? It was basically looking like a drive that just didn't have allocated drives

steep gust

@violet plank Uh 64c EYPC not Threadripper

#

Big difference

#

And that 64c CPU wont support windows

#

Windows already shits itself with 36+ threads

#

violet plank
#

you're right ofc,i mixed them up

latent light
#

the Threadripper 2990WX gets held back because of the Windows kernel scheduler bug

#

Microsoft is currently working on a fix for AMD

#

this is due to windows not being able to handle the architecture well

#

on linux, these problems don't show up

#

even Microsoft uses Linux when they need performance.

steep gust
#

Its not just the 29900WX

High thread count CPUs as a whole

Its just the 2990WX really suffers from it, the 7980XE doesn't have as many issues

molten bramble
#

@coarse nimbus You’re running an m.2 SSD and have two HDDs—did you just install the SSD?

coarse nimbus
#

nah, last night i kinda typed what happened

#

basically found out that one of my 1tb wasnt on my computer screen

molten bramble
#

The SSD die?

coarse nimbus
#

the 4 partitions on it just disappeared

#

nah ssd is fine its the old 7200rpm

molten bramble
#

Oh, the HDD. That was the issue you were mentioning about it disappearing—I think it was you.

coarse nimbus
#

but its still there in disk manger and hardware manager

molten bramble
#

Someone asked if you’d checked the cable.

#

So I have had that happen twice in my lifetime—one was a bad cable, as odd as it may sound, and the drive still showed in the manager. The other was a bad write and somehow overwrote the MBR on the HDD.

#

Getting on PC, one moment.

#

Okay, back now.

#

@coarse nimbus What steps have you taken so far to troubleshoot?

#

Starting with the physical since the software end is clearly showing the drive exists.

#

@coarse nimbus Have you swapped the cable out yet?

#

@coarse nimbus Have you recently updated BIOS firmware at all or any settings related to drives?

coarse nimbus
#

i did disconnect the sata and then when i tried to plug back in and reboot it sat on the mobo screen it sat on the loading screen not booting so i turned it back off then unplugged it

steep gust
#

hmmmm

#

is your bootloader on the HDD?

#

Because if so

#

Big fucking rip

coarse nimbus
#

figuring that at 10 30 at night it wasnt time to trouble shoot more

#

no its just a storage drive

#

and no havent done a sata cable swap yet, waiting for the new drive to come in at this point, no bios update

#

afaik tuesday night I shut down everything was fine, ~17 hours later i started it back up on wednesday and after that i noticed a desktop icon was no longer what it should be, went to like the generic missing file type image

#

and then little bit later i discovered the partitions are missing in the file explorer but they are showing up in blue in the disk mang like they were there just missing a drive assigned to it

#

but for some reason i was getting an error code about my disk mang program needing to be updated in order for anything to be done with it thonk

molten bramble
#

@coarse nimbus Hmm... first, have you scanned your drives for malware? Next, I'd swap that cable before anything else. Third, if it's a MBR issue, that could be cryptonite, but not entirely irrecoverable--you might end up with corrupted files or missing files though. There are several utilities available to recover data from drives--ideally ones with a boot sector intact. Also, do you hear the platters spinning at all when you start it up? Any clicking sounds? Grinding? I've recovered data from drives with a secondary motor, but that's a painstaking process, especially for high capacity drives.

steep gust
#

I meant is your windows bootloader on your SSD or HDD?

coarse nimbus
#

woahping Ive scanned the remaining drives, nothing seems to be on there. I havent investigated the drive while under power if its spinning at all, would probably have to remove it from the case and just keep it on the desk for that

#

and isnt the bootloader on the drive with windows installed on it? which would be my m.2

molten bramble
#

@coarse nimbus Typically yes, though each drive in your machine has some manner of boot sector/table/volume boot record (VBR) that provides information regarding the structure/filesystem/partitioning on the drive.

#

Since it's a storage drive and not your system's SSD, then you could have a bad boot sector, VBR, or even a boot sector virus that corrupted something.

#

@coarse nimbus Did you mention all the partitions were void? As in it's just showing one whole volume and it's not segmented?

coarse nimbus
#

no, it still had the 4 different partition boxes that I created on it, and they were all showing blue, in the disk management page, just missing the drive letters on the boxes

molten bramble
#

Weird.

coarse nimbus
#

fingers crossed the sata cable just went wonky? LUL

molten bramble
#

Mid-way through the page it mentions your scenario.

@pallid idol VSYNC is something that will give faster response time if you turn it off, but you'll have screen tearing if you don't have GSYNC on your monitor

storm osprey

i saw a video that said thats illegal

steep gust
#

@latent light That isn't fully legal

#

but once you open the GPU its up to you to prove you didn't damage it

latent light
#

how would you prove that in court

#

oof

#

It means that actions taken by then end user to obtain a 3rd party repair or service that the OEM does not provide for free under their warranty can not void the warranty unless they can prove the 3rd party repair or service caused the problem stated in the warranty claim.

Upgrading the thermal paste would not affect the voltage controller for instance. If the GPU died from overheating and it has aftermarket thermal paste or the cooler was reinstalled incorrectly, then they can deny. If it died because one of the mosfets shorted and drove 12V into the core, it doesn’t matter if it had a liquid block on it, they would be responsible to replace under warranty.

Warranty stickers are them being lazy and/or cost savings in so far as having an easy out to deny service.

If dude could send it to Gigabyte and ask them to upgrade or replace the thermal paste and they did that service for free, then sure they could deny it because he decided to do it himself.

steep gust

My GPU has a tamper sticker

my rx 580 never had a warranty sticker

steep gust

Its a tamper sticker legally

latent light

so if I take it apart without fucking something up I should be ok

I don't want to take it apart because the thermal pads will probably rip apart

#

I don't have extra thermal pads lol

steep gust

They shouldn't if you don't tear the cooler off

I know, getting a new mobo

storm osprey

...

latent light

might as well get something new

jaunty sonnet
#

What would you recommend?

latent light
#

tbh you could get a i7-2600K or a 2700K and it won't be different to a 3770K

#

a 2600K can overclock to at least 4.5 GHz

storm osprey
#

if you dont want to get new ram, whatever is the newest platform that supports ddr3

jaunty sonnet

Not even a little bit?

#

I don't want new RAM just bougt 16gb

@storm osprey I will look around cheers mate

latent light

I’m real happy with the MSI MEG Z390 ACE @jaunty sonnet

jaunty sonnet
#

@covert heron About £400

covert heron
#

yeah in your budget range id be looking for used probably

#

not sure where you could get a new 3770k anyway

#

like here in 2012 a new 3770k was like $350ish or less

jaunty sonnet
#

Would like a second hand one not new

covert heron
#

definitely would be a pretty big upgrade from that i5 2400

jaunty sonnet
#

Deffo

covert heron
#

my 3770k was a really good overclocker, easily hit 4.8 on air with barely any additional voltage

#

kinda ran into wall at 4.9 though and needed a lot more

#

but yeah id say if you can get it for your budget of ~200 including mobo that isn't a horrible deal

jaunty sonnet
#

Don't know how to overlock though, is it easy?

covert heron
#

its reasonably straight forward

#

it takes a bit of time to make sure its stable and all that

jaunty sonnet
#

Ah right

covert heron
#

but its basically bumping up clock til it has issues, bumping up V until it stops and then repeating this til you hit the thermal limit

#

you can find guides specific to your cpu which w ould be a good starting place

#

but 3770ks generally overclocked really well based on the small sample size of all my friends who had them

#

it was a monster of a cpu, i literally had 0 reason to upgrade until this 8700k came out and there was finally a 6 core chip in that price range

molten bramble
#

^ same, I had a Q9650 prior to the 8700K that OC’d the crap out of, but hands down this CPU is way better.

#

Not even in the same dimension.

covert heron
#

like prior to 2012 you saw pretty big increases each generation

#

but like 3770k -> 4k series -> 6k series -> 7k series was very marginal improvements

#

especially if you had a 3770k that OCd well

#

like maybe 30% improvement over all those generations

#

definitely not enough to justify a whole new build

storm osprey
#

i have a 4790, at 1440p, i still get 100+ fps in just about everything with mixed settings

#

still waiting to upgrade

covert heron
#

i wanted to upgrade since like the 6700k came out but i just couldnt justify it

#

never had a pc last like 7 years before with only gpu upgrades

#

i guess i only got 6 out of it since i built this other one last year

storm osprey
#

my first pc so im lucky

covert heron
latent light
#

@molten bramble 8700K paired with a 1050 Ti is a bit weird

#

you plan on getting a GPU upgrade?

molten bramble
#

The 1050Ti is a holdover from@the prior build, eventually it will be the secondary card and I’ll be picking up a better one later on. Gotta buy some stuff for the kids, priority. 😊

latent light
#

lol

molten bramble
#

Will be bumping up the memory before I buy a new card though. For now, it does just what I need.

latent light
#

only have 8GB?

molten bramble
#

@latent light 16Gb, I’ll be looking for a good deal on 32-64Gb arena.

latent light
#

16GB is far plenty if you play games

minor turret
#

maybe he plays civilization

storm osprey
#

or, with his specs hes doing work stuff, but games on the side

steep gust
#

@molten bramble DDR5 is coming soonTM

#

So spending more than $150-200 on DDR4 isnt recommended

#

So you can get a good 2x8 kit or a meh 4x8

storm osprey
#

but will cpus support it?!

molten bramble
#

I’ll be on the lookout for it.

steep gust
#

DDR5 requires a new IMC

molten bramble
#

And yes, the PC is used for much more than gaming. However, a game like Cities : Skylines relies heavily on memory when using custom assets.

#

I do play Civ 5 / 6, but on the Mac.

steep gust
#

Even heavily modded it shouldn't be pulling more than 10-12GB

molten bramble
#

Premiere can be a resource hog for editing/encoding

steep gust
#

Which reminds me I have an extra 2x8 kit of DDR4 in my desk

It's even B-Die

Just not RGB

molten bramble
#

@steep gust Depends on the detail, but I try to find assets that are low tri count by default.

steep gust
#

More details will crush your GPU

storm osprey
#

EXTRA 2x8?

molten bramble
#

GPU is running solid surprisingly, even on the previous build, but the memory was a massive bottleneck on it.

#

It’s nice to stretch the legs with this one.

steep gust
#

@storm osprey yes extra

molten bramble
#

Sorry, on mobile.

steep gust
#

I have a 2x8 kit of Hynix CJR right now because RGB

#

The 2x8 kit of B-Die is black / red

storm osprey
#

should have sold that when prices were hot

#

or do you keep it as backup?

molten bramble
#

I don’t get the attraction to RGB, but to each their own. I try to put as little of that in my builds as possible.

steep gust
#

I bought the black/ red kit when prices were mildly hot

storm osprey
#

i like SOME rgb

steep gust
#

RGB ram will be the only real RGB component for me

#

I wont bother with fans

storm osprey
#

mouse, keeb and aura inside

molten bramble
#

I only have RGB fans, and that’s enough for me. I don’t like something distracting my eyes from what I am trying to focus on, especially if working with Photoshop.

steep gust
#

I paid $170 for the black / red kit (3000 16-16-16-36)

I paid $140 for a G Skill RGB kit that is rated for 3600 16-18-18-38

#

I will make nothing selling my extra kit

#

So if I ever need 32GB I can

#

*before I upgrade to a maximus XI Apex or Z390 dark

molten bramble
#

I’m probably going to just get another pair of the current Corsair 3200 x16Gb and stick to 32Gb for now.

steep gust
#

Dual channel is important

#

You have literally half the possible bandwidth

molten bramble
#

Unless I can find a good deal on 2x DIMMs @ 32Gb

steep gust
#

And I wouldn't recommend 3 sticks on a dual channel board

molten bramble
#

Staying away from Crucial, had so many issues with the brand in recent years.

steep gust
#

Your IMC shits itself then

molten bramble
#

Corsair has been on the last two builds

steep gust
#

Crucial = micron boyo

#

So you literally have an issue with the physical IC manufacturer

#

Which cuts you out about 1/3 of all DDR4

molten bramble
#

Dunno, but got three bad batches in ten years from them.

steep gust
#

RAM has lifetime warranties happy

molten bramble
#

Warranty isn’t going to compensate me for downtime. 😁

steep gust
#

Generally RAM issues are not the actual stick going bad

molten bramble
#

I’m taking my time though, not in a rush. I’ll find the deal that works.

steep gust
#

At least for DDR4 / DDR3

#

I heard of people having DDR2 kits randomly die at 'safe' voltages (max daily when overclocking)

molten bramble
#

DDR4 seems much more stable than the DDR2 on the last build.

steep gust
#

Tech has matured a lot

molten bramble
#

Indeed

steep gust
#

DDR5 launch tho

#

Its gonna be X58 / rzyen all over

molten bramble
#

Well, the board can handle it and the i9, but I’ll save that for now.

steep gust
#

Since they have to make a new IMC

#

Intel "hold my 10nm yields"

#

Intel's IMC is rock solid right now

They fuck up that with DDR5 and big oof

molten bramble
#

I haven’t even OC’d the 8700K yet, it’s been fast as shit compared to the last build.

steep gust
#

8700k needs a delid to overclock properly

molten bramble
#

I’ve considered it.

steep gust
#

I would recommend it eventually

#

With a tool the only risk is user error

#

*a good tool

molten bramble
#

860 EVO is like 60-70 bucks right now, surprised.

#

500Gb

steep gust
#

It might still be cheaper to buy two 500GB over 1TB

#

But having a bunch of drives notlikethis

molten bramble
#

Well, one I use for system, want one more for the scratch and get it off the storage platter.

steep gust
#

I want a 128GB drive for benching

#

I dont want to neuter my main windows install

molten bramble
#

Looking at maybe picking up an m.2 instead, and running the system from there/

steep gust
#

M.2 SATA over NVMe

molten bramble
#

Then use the other for the scratch.

steep gust
#

NVMe isnt worth it for 99% of users

#

Unless you move 10GB+ files a lot

molten bramble
#

Video, easy 10Gb

#

RAW collections snapped from the D4 can get big as well.

steep gust
#

But are you transferring from a drive that supports NVMe speeds?

#

USB 3.1 is nowhere near close enough

molten bramble
#

If I am batch processing and the transferring, yes.

steep gust
#

Still generally not worth the cost to consumers tbh

#

Waiting an extra 15-30 seconds never killed someone

molten bramble
#

Workflows can be setup that automates the process, so I can go through a load of up-to-1Gb files x 300 in a session.

steep gust
#

See 1Gb files arent large enough to validate NVMe

molten bramble
#

Import is the longest bit of it, but USB3 handles it a lot better than previous.

steep gust
#

It doesn't have enough time to flex itself

molten bramble
#

If it’s video, that’s a much different scenario.

#

I tend to future proof builds though, never know what new massive something to overwhelm the machine is around the corner.

steep gust
#

SATA 4 when thonk

molten bramble
#

I’d rather have something and not need it than vice versus.

steep gust
#

PCIe 4.0 is coming

molten bramble
#

Stupid autocorrect.

steep gust
#

And with that

#

Faster storage

molten bramble
#

👍

#

I offload everything to the NAS drives, only storage is for current projects.

steep gust
#

PCIe 4.0 will do nothing for GPU / multi GPU tho

x8 vs x16 on GPUs ks literally nothing

#

Even for multi gpu

molten bramble
#

Maybe benefit for modeling using say titans or something? I know some data scientists here doing that.

#

More lanes seem to make them happier.

#

National Science Foundation does that kind of stuff, but I think they’ve got a farm for it.

steep gust
#

Very few GPUs can saturate x8

#

And the companies buying GPUs with workloads that can, can afford server CPUs with tons of lanes

#

There are 32x slots for a reason

molten bramble
#

Fair enough

#

It’s freezing in the flat right now, don’t think Nest is working properly. Sucker is jumped up to 80 and it feels like 60. 🤔

steep gust
#

For consumers the only advantage of PCIe 4.0 is faster storage

Which I'm not complaining

molten bramble
#

Definitely something weird, just turned this sucker up to 90 and nothing. Reads 74... wtf

#

Outside is 22...

steep gust

Only 22?

thats a lie, memory OC for ryzen is essential and pretty cancer unless you pay iron price for proper binned b-die

steep gust
#

No?

latent light
#

3200 MHz is perfect for ryzen

#

any higher and you need to loosen timings

steep gust
#

You get little after 3000-3200 on both Intel and AMD for gaming

minor turret
#

not if you find the proper kit, and i had a significant performance boost from 3200 to 3533

#

admittedly with 16-18 timings but still

#

on both

latent light
#

the difference between 3200 and 3533 is maybe 1-2% in games lol

minor turret
#

no its more significant if you want 144+ fps gameplay

#

id argue its more around 5-10% in select titles

steep gust
#

It's a good lesson on just because its B-Die doesnt mean its good

#

Rzyen as a whole has solid memory support now and you can easily buy a 3600mhz 16-18-18-38 CJR kit and with some tweaking get it to run

all of these use the reference PCB

can i leave my pc in sleep mode and download steam games?

unborn cliff

@pallid silo if u just leave it there with the screen turned off and such.

#

i dont think itl stop

#

otherwise tjeck ur windows settings, just make it just sleep on auto

vernal spire
#

sleep mode pauses everything but saves it in your RAM i think

or something like that

#

dont use sleep mode for downloading anything

i learned it the hard way

@molten bramble those aren't amazing prices

molten bramble
#

Hence the posts.

steep gust

Also that ultrawide looks like shit

#

I bet it's only 1080p vertical thonk

molten bramble
#

I dunno, it sort of grows on you as you look at it up close.

#

They’re running some shit multiplexer in the back which makes the presentation less than spectacular.

quaint topaz
#

Right now on amazon you can get a 500gb ssd for like $50

sonic osprey
#

yes that is 3840x1080 ultrawide, I have that

#

DFHD = dual full HD

latent light
#

$100 for a 250GB NVMe SSD isn't good

you can find 500Gb for that price online

tepid river
#

Crucial m.2 sata 500gb 50 dollars

Or euros

Amazon

sonic osprey

I think I paid like 270e for 1tb m.2 NVMe

you can crossfire RX 480 and RX 580

just a rebrand with tiny higher clocking

@molten coral

molten coral

Mhh alright

#

I only buy the SSD's from samsung NeutralRooFace

latent light
#

Crucial are best value

#

1TB Crucial MX500 only $135 and same speed as a Samsung 860 EVO

molten coral
#

Every SSD I own is samsung so i'll just stay with it.

No reason to

molten coral

¯_(ツ)_/¯

latent light

never stick to the same company, go with the product that suits you and has the best value

steep gust
#

Pretty much every drive can saturate SATA 3

molten coral
#

I tend to stay with one brand if I like it and i'll just keep doing it.

steep gust
#

So the only thing you possibly could get with samsung is write endurance

But you hit a point of diminishing returns with write endurance. Who cares if its 50TB or 100TB when you only write 10TB across the entire lifespan of the drive?

#

And that attitude is why Asus got away with a shitty ass Z390 lineup and people still pay a goddamn premium for it

latent light
#

Asus has a lot of fans

#

@steep gust Gigabyte has the best Z390, who else has good Z390 boards?

#

MSI?

#

ASRock?

steep gust
#

EVGA currently has the best

latent light
#

oof

steep gust
#

With the Z390 Dark

molten bramble
#

@sonic osprey how much did you pay for the display?

steep gust
#

The Maximus XI Apex is released in Europe so we will see how it goes up against the Z390 Dark

#

But most people dont need an XOC motherboard and gigabyte has most of the lineup covered

#

Asus motherboards aren't bad, they just aren't worth the premium charged and with the false advertising

#

4 phase VRM ran in parallel =/= twin 8 phase

latent light
#

what's better 4+3 or 5+2

molten coral
#

Tbh, I don't really care if I pay a bit more for a brand I trust. It's the same with everything else, like people buying gillette shaving blades above some chinese knock off. It's just because they trust the brand and know how good the quality is.

molten bramble
#

@molten coral Same, my SSDs have all been Samsung. I had a Crucial one, and it completely fritzed—lost a lot of data, won’t buy the brand again for SSDs.

#

@latent light I have a Z390 MSI, solid.

I bought a kingston one because it was cheap on amazon, hasn't failed me yet

@molten bramble bought it like a year ago, for about 1100

molten bramble

Ouch

molten coral

My 4TB HDD is in pretty bad shape as well tbh but I don't really care if it dies at this point. Nothing of value will be lost. Just a lot of movies and some games.

keen forge

Yeah I'd only lose games and a couple minor programs if mine died

molten coral

I've 2,5TB in SSD, I only have my HDD because I had one laying around LUL

sonic osprey

@molten bramble yea, it was not cheap when it first came out :D

molten coral

I've been tempted to get the 43'' for a while now

molten bramble

I don’t use the SSDs for storage, it was a project edit and set me back two weeks. Luckily I lost no source, just the edit collection, project, effects, etc.. I never store both together.

Anyone still running RAID setups?

molten coral

I think the 49'' will be a bit too much for me.

I think a 1050 Ti will do 80-100 fps on the lowest settings on BFV

molten bramble

Thinking of getting the display first and then a new card.

Prep peripheral before the internal.

keen forge

What card?

molten coral

I've a 34'' ultrawide at the moment and a 27'' stacked on each other. If i'm gonna get the 43'' super ultrawide i'll be removing the 27'' one and stack the 43'' and 34''

steep gust

@minor turret Actually stable?

minor turret
#

stable in valley bench and bfv

steep gust
#

Yeah valley ain't much of a stress

#

Try superposition

obsidian scarab
#

Should I use dolby or dts for virtual surround?

steep gust
#

Neither

#

Virtual surround is shit

sonic osprey
#

I wanna get 240hz 21:9 monitor as my main gaming monitor and use this 49" only for productivity

minor turret
#

hm maybe ill try that soonish

#

card peaked at ~110%-115% tdp in valley though

steep gust
#

Yeah it should be pulling way more

obsidian scarab
#

One thing I've noticed tho is that dolby has a more clean sound

minor turret
#

ayy not watt but %

#

of tdp

steep gust
#

Yeah because you increased the power limit

#

But I highly doubt you will hold 2150mhz on air

minor turret
#

its a 1070 strix OC edition at 100% fan speed when i game :D

#

stays around 40-48 celsius

latent light
#

is that loud?

#

the Gigabyte cooler on my RX 580 is pretty loud at 70%

minor turret
#

loud as fuck but i dont care with headphones

#

3x fans at 100%

steep gust
#

strix cards get loud as fuck at 100% fans

#

like even with headphones loud as fuck

minor turret
#

dont notice it during gaming and i like the extra 1-2% fps lel

#

could probably easily maintain 2100-2130 with a lot lower rpm

steep gust
#

Probably not

#

GPU Boost 3.0 scales pretty harshly with temps

cosmic star
#

what u think about dx12

steep gust
#

Great tech

#

Needs better software support

minor turret
#

not recommended for bfv unless you need to disable future frame rendering

steep gust
#

DX12 gets me better performance

#

aka you should do a quick test

#

and not listen to people when it comes to something that differs GPU to GPU

latent light
#

100% fan speed can kill a fan can't it

steep gust
#

Given like 10,000 hours

minor turret
#

fans dont cost that much and 10 000 hours of gaming is a lot

#

@steep gust But did you test to see if the fps dips are greater than with dx11?

#

because that was the killer for me

steep gust
#

I just saw I had a higher average FPS on DX12

#

and left it alone

latent light
#

what about 0.1% low

steep gust
#

I didn't record my FPS

#

Because

A. No software installed to do so

B. Finding software to do so is a pain in the ass if I also want 1% and 0.1%

minor turret
#

msi afterburner does it automaticly and shows a nice ongoing diagram

#

also shows frametime spikes

steep gust
#

I also haven't touched MSI Afterburner in awhile since I like using the fan headers on my GPU and MSI Afterburner doesn't support them for some reason

elfin scroll
#

Why does Dual channel provide a lot more FPS than single channel?

quartz whale
#

I’m thinking a power supply issue

elfin scroll
#

I've got 16GB ram in one slot, now i regret not getting 2x8 GB. But again, in future this could be more helpful.

latent light
#

@elfin scroll you wanna see a comparison video between single and dual channel for BFV?

#

it's a huge difference

#

like 50% higher performance lol

elfin scroll
#

But why

latent light
#

because single channel means the bandwidth is literally cut in half

elfin scroll
#

Why does it impact the FPS though?

latent light
#

because ram speed is important and having 1 stick cuts that speed in half

#

based on that video, 1x8GB gets 150 fps average and 2x4GB get 225 fps average

#

single channel will also see more stutter

elfin scroll
#

rip

latent light
#

comparison in other games too

#

some games won't see much difference

elfin scroll
#

Im guessing its only CPU based games which see the difference

#

will 4x4 have more performance than 2x8?

latent light
#

about equal

#

4x4 is still dual channel

#

you can only get quad channel with Threadripper and Xeon

elfin scroll
#

so, to equal my performance i should get one more slot of 16gb ram?

latent light
#

yes, as long as it's the same brand and model

#

and same speed

elfin scroll
#

alright

latent light
#

and put it in the right slot

elfin scroll
#

maybe if Im having issues with any games with FPS i'll think of upgrading it

quasi sparrow
#

dual channel is a must nowadays

elfin scroll
#

thanks for the help

quasi sparrow
#

hype for my Logitech G305 coming in

#

heard you can get it down to ~80g

steep gust
#

@latent light X299 has quad channel

#

@elfin scroll 4x4 will perform slightly worse than 2x8

#

Having single channel doesn't cut the speed of the RAM in half, it cuts the bandwidth in half

There is a difference :^)

fair sage
#

don't forget the hedt cpu's like the 5960x doing quad channel too 😛

#

@steep gust 4x 8 works just fine tho 😄

minor turret
#

not on dual channel setups, especially amd

fair sage
#

@minor turret well x99 is a quad channel platform so 😄

elfin scroll
#

Maybe one day I'll get another 16 slot so I get my dual channel

latent light
#

Quad channel is highly recommended on threadripper
