Well, those are planes that can crash and be shot down just like any other, I've seen them just explode sometimes and crash to the ground.
They appear on the minimap as empty vehicles...so my theory is, what if you jeep stuff'd your way to high enough above the planes flightpath to jump out and get in the plane?

That’s probably because neither of those vehicles pass over the playable area. The corsairs, on the other hand, do, and have visible icons on the minimap.

I hope they don't make the same mistake from BF1 there are some flaws in that game that needs to be fix while they are developing for the new modern battlefield, for example when you took your teammates tank in BF1 you can't self repair it you can only repair it your own vehicle once you spawn in the vehicle kinda sucks.
Also if you took your teammates vehicle or enemy vehicles it should be the same from BF4, you took the enemy vehicle your loadout weaponry will be replace from the other players vehicle weaponry once you're in the vehicle.
