While most modern troops have weapons capable of firing fully automatic, the average WW1 or WW2 soldier usually had a bolt action or semi-automatic rifle, with a lot more emphasis on bolt actions because hardly anything else was used in WW1. The US was the only nation in WW2 that I can think of that issued a semi-automatic rifle as a standard infantry rifle, and even then, for the first few years of the war, soldiers were issued bolt action rifles.

Having played for some time now, this is my summary of class weapons in BFV:
- Support - LMGs are decent, a bit tricky to use. Can be powerful with proper positioning. MMGs are extremely situational, require you to use bipod and if you don't, they're trash. Sadly way too underpowered.
- Sniper - I feel like the sniper rifles are way too easy to use. ADS should be longer, that'd fix it completely. Also ZH 29 is a joke.
- Medic - Extremely stable weapons. Too accurate on mid range.
- Assault - Laser guns class. Guns have barely any recoil - and if they do, their damage, accuracy and rate of fire make up for it completely. Can engage at any ranges, outsniping snipers, outgunning support.
