can give yourself cover, cover allied vehicle repairing, smoke enemy position so they cant aim, smoke approach where your team is trying to reach an objective without getting mowed down or trying to retreat without getting shot in the back

biggest mistake I see ppl make is dropping a smoke at their feet constantly

usually it's better to smoke the enemy so they can't see... unfortunately ppl usually smoke our position and suddenly none of us can see and our firing stops and allows the enemy to advance
