@ashen nexus I think it usually takes a while before a player becomes better at surviving in a Battlefield game. Try watching Broken Machine's tips videos on YouTube. They're really helpful and get you to think about stuff you might not have before.
If you can get a headset, that can really help. Directional sound is usually pretty good in modern Battlefield games and will help you determine where enemies are. DICE designs enemy footsteps to be louder than friendly footsteps.
And this might seem obvious, but take cover as much as possible. You usually never want to be too far away from cover. Smoke grenades are something more players should utilize because of how versatile their usage is as mobile cover.
Battlefield 1 guns also have a weird RNG mechanic when you ADS. With semi-autos, if you shoot too fast then the bullet won't land where you aim. When aiming for targets far away, you generally have to wait until your iron sights stabilize before you fire again if you want the bullet to land where you shoot.
Support LMGs have a reverse-spread mechanic where the longer you fire, the more accurate the bullets become.

Anyway, r/BattlefieldV currently has a thread discussing attrition. It's of course the game's most divisive feature but I thought I'd share my TED talk here on my jumbled thoughts:
Attrition is definitely one of the most divisive feature of Battlefield V. I'm on the side who enjoyed the concept and would like to see it built upon for future Battlefield games.
Health and ammo attrition adds another layer to the gameplay that I never think about in other competitive shooters. It puts the game inbetween the line of casual and hardcore. I really enjoy adapting my approach to a situating depending on how much resources I have. For example if I'm in the middle of a firefight, I like determining whether I should heal up now and re-engage the enemy, or if I should take the risk and re-engage without healing so I can save the health pouch for the next engagement. And as a mostly solo players, I don't feel like attrition holds me back either, especially with health and ammo stations that are placed on objectives.
For the next Battlefield game, I'd like health attrition to be tweaked depending on the TTK. The TTK in Battlefield V is pretty fast so you're rarely in a position to have less than max health. I do like some people's ideas to heal partially on their own a few seconds after taking damage, and after waiting for a very long time for your health to go back to max, with a health pouch reserve allowing the player to heal to max right then and there. Something like this will I think will get players to feel confident to play aggressively in a high TTK environment, while still giving a reason to think tactically about whether to use that health pouch or not. In a future Battlefield game, I also would like to see killed enemy Medics occasionally dropping health pouches too, to help solo players feel like they can survive.
As for ammo attrition, I actually wish it was a bit stricter. I've been playing Battlefield V since launch, and I rarely if ever have to worry about primary weapon ammo. Some of my favorite nail-biting moments in Battlefield 4 and 1 are when I'm surviving by the skin my teeth because I ran out of primary ammo so I have to rely on my sidearm. However, if ammo attrition is to be stricter then I hope sidearms are buffed as well to make them viable self defense weapons, just like they were in Battlefield 1. Determining whether I should use my sidearm to conserve primary weapon ammo, especially during CQC fights, is another layer of tactical thinking that I'd love to see in a future Battlefield game.
I also wish Support ammo pouches gave out gadget ammo. I never equip ammo pouches in V because they don't give out gadget ammo, and gadget ammo is usually the primary reason why you want a Support around. I'd balance that by allowing Supports to carry only 1 ammo pouch at a time, with a cooldown happening after they throw one.
Regarding vehicle attrition, I like that tanks now have limited ammo because it will prevent them from camping a spot, as well as balancing tank vs. infantry combat by forcing tanks to retreat when they get heavily damaged or run out of ammo. I hope the next Battlefield game allows Supports to help them out even more. All Supports being able to repair vehicles is a wonderful addition to the game. But I'd also love a gadget like say a portable vehicle ammo station that refills at a much slower pace than vehicle resupply stations.

It really should've stayed strict, especially with the addition of grabbing ammo from Supports by pressing Interact, as well as the aura replenishment of ammo crates.
