and you won't show up on the minimap if you fire, but i think that didn't happen anyway

so say you hit a guy from the left, the guy will have no clue where you're shooting him from

and since your gun is lower volume, he'll have less of an idea where to look for the gunfire

the greasegun and commando carbine are the only guns that do this
