I played a BF1 grand Operation or whatever its called on the weekend, as far as I could tell the two big differences between the BF1 and BFV grand operations are the drone like flyover of the battlefield accompanied by the woman talking and the view from orbit for a few seconds. The gameplay itself is to me about as immersive, save perhaps that it is the very unfamiliarity of the setting and the time period that promotes a greater feeling of immersion. WW1 is undiscovered country for most of us, ww2 has been covered by far more games, series and movies and in a sense feels like old news sometimes.
If that is the reason then I fear most ww2 games will lack that same feeling of immersion and also there is a natural nostalgia about the great war that can also perhaps be felt when reading Tolkien's books
its a very nebulous thing for any game to capture
