Let me explain with the assault archetypes first off
So essentially you divide classes into different subclasses with strenghts and weaknesses
these different subclasses would cater to different playstyles but they all have drawbacks
for assault specifically you have light infantry, which can use assault rifles / semi autos and grenade launchers
anti-tank would have carbines and machine pistols with rocket launchers
and rifleman would be mid ranged combat
anti tank archetype is the logical extension of BF4 engineer in the worst possible way

yes that's the entire point because now we have an assault class with an anti-tank and an assault rifle

peak BF was with instaswap seats and insta enter/exit
resulted in the most interesting plays
