I’m sort of used to the idea because of my experience with the M203 IRL, sort of the same idea. It seems to work alright against infantry near it’s impact as well.

If you want, spawn a tank in spawn, and Redeploy outside of the tank, and equip the class you want, respawn and jump into the tank, it counts to both your class and the tank then
Or just keep playing and getting as much points as you can, this includes kills, capping the OBJ, doing the OBJ etc

If you play Medic, healing and reviving will net you a ton of points, far better than kills. Obviously you'll still want to get kills, but playing your role will go a long way towards ranking it up

Try to focus on one class, at the class level you're at I believe it takes around 25,000-ish xp to level up, so that's gonna take awhile if you keep swapping

I don't think you'll be outclassed if you start from scratch, there's plenty of room to grow as Infantry. Now vehicles are another question, cause a lot of the vehicle players in 4 have had a LOT of time to hone their skills.
And 4 does have a Practice Range, so you can test out the mechanics there if you decide to go ahead and buy it. The Practice Range in 4 is accessed through battlelog
