And the layout is not unique to the Tiger, nor was it a particularly good implementation.
The Tiger II's use of space-wasting side sloping, and its relatively small turret are both elements that were to its detriment and definitely not part of modern designs.

The Pz. III was not in any way superior to the Sherman. The only side that I can see possibly using converted panzers would be the Russians.
And TBH the Ostfront was such a mess that it wouldn't surprise me. The Germans used captured T-34s and Shermans when they could.
Hell, Germany scrounged damn near anything it could from anyone.
Pz. 38(t) is a Czech tank that Germany used throughout the war.
