You know, one of the weird things I didn't understand about the tanks in any BF title, was the inability to secure the hatch or unsecure the hatch if you intended to use the machine-gun or just needed to hide away. No tanker I know would willfully be sitting atop the tank at all times waiting to take a sniper's shot, LOL.

@serene estuary With some very major reservations, I'd suggest taking a look at War Thunder. On the plus side it's free. On the downside the company that runs it sucks, it's a bit grindy, and it can eat a load of time. But if you're looking to get into sims for cheap, the simulator mode is the cheapest option for getting started.

Yeah. The AC isn't actually a big upgrade in anti-infantry power. Still takes 2-3 hits to kill, but it's more accurate and has splash. Big thing is that you don't have to fumble between MG and cannon to engage armor.

Autocannon feels super strong against infantry and not bad vs tanks, but the MG is already enough to punish infantry for being in the open.
The AC can't demolish buildings as well, which is actually a fairly substantial mark against it.

Some maps though, it's evil. A full up autocannon/scope Staghound getting off to one side of the bridge on Twisted Steel can walk fire along the railings and completely strip them off.

The cannon setup feels more like something you'd use on Aerodrome. A flat-shooting cannon and rockets for bombarding infantry in cover, or just face-nuking tanks if they try to brawl you.

I think for BFV the stick alone is sufficient to play, but if you want immersion the HOTAS setup is always the way to go.
That said, I don't think you'll actually gain any sort of edge from a dedicated throttle and pedal rig. BFV just isn't geared towards that.

I haven't really been impressed by the Pz. IV or Tiger yet. Tiger's slow as balls and way too easy for assaults to mob down if you fall behind on map awareness. Pz. IV just doesn't do anything interesting.
Haven't had a chance to get it into an armor duel though, so maybe it shines there with the long 75 and AP shells.

Wirbelwind has been singularly unimpressive. It's slow, needs to get close to really kill infantry effectively, but that's risky since it's a huge target for panzerfausts.
At long range it mostly just annoys them.
Plus it sucks against aircraft.
Full bursts just tickle them.
At least the 40mm on the Valentine AA can outright kill fighters.

That was almost certainly an engine fire.
AT nade should either go low into the tracks or high into the side/rear of the turret for a turret disable.
Well, really that's true of all AT stuff. You either want the engine compartment for an engine disable, turret for a turret disable, or tracks.
Tanks are a bit harder to kill outright, especially if the driver's on the ball and pops emergency repair correctly, but you can absolutely fuck them up so badly that they haven't really got a chance.
Taking out the turret and one mobility item (track or engine) basically seals the deal.

If you hit the side-rear of the turret on most tanks with a panzerfaust it knocks out turret rotation entirely for a few seconds, and slows it down massively after that. Tiger can get reinforced turret ring which makes it take a few hits.
One panzerfaust or dynamite does it reliably to stuff that doesn't have track skirts.
Seems to take two hits for skirted tanks.
