The concept is actually pretty simple. If the apparent motion of an aircraft doesn't cross the center of the sight, you'll never hit it. So you use the outer sectors to line the aircraft's relative motion up with the center of the sight.

@cedar bronze WW3 does have some interesting features that make it more than just a BF clone, but it's definitely drawing core gameplay inspiration from BF.

Specializtions can help quite a bit, in tanks I have Awareness, Critical Cover and Convoy.
Awareness - Enemies are spotted for 25% longer
Critical Cover - If in critical health, smoke is deployed regardless of your kit
Convoy - when repairing, you repair nearby vehicles as well
