i think the battlefield devs meant fortifaction to be something way different and more cooler, but it turned out that it wasn't that good. I think the devs planned on making the game like a Verdun style of gameplay with fortifactions but that didnt work

In a world where you're not guaranteed to get two or three trolls in every server, freeform fortification would be amazing. But in reality, I prefer static fortifications because it prevents people from dicking their own team.

battlefield you are always moving unlike a game like Arma where you have to defend a point so fortifications aren't that big a of deal

@compact oxide They're actually good for staying on the move too. E.g. there's a set of fortifications on Narvik you can build on the small railway bridge in the middle (Not the big half-wrecked one) that give you cover against snipers to the North and let you cross that bridge more safely.

You get the full height sandbag walls on the north side at both ends and in the middle of the bridge, so it's no longer a suicide run across a totally open space.

My only complaint with them is that a lot of the fortifications in destroyed buildings are nonsense. Like the one set of low scrap walls that adds a grand total of about two inches of height to a destroyed wall inside some buildings.
