Like, if you take a look at the PaK 40 gunshield, it's two thin metal plates with standoff bolts separating them. Compare this to British and US 57mm guns, where the shield is a single steel plate bent in two places, or the USSR ZiS-2 and ZiS-3 where it's just a steel plate with a cutout for the gun to be poked through.

The T&E mechanism is similarly overcomplicated as well.
