I'm guessing you're on the younger side then. I'll admit SW, particularly the original trilogy, didn't age well. But it set the stage for blockbuster sci-fi. And at the time, it was pretty much the first sci-fi movie to show a dirty, dusty, worn universe instead of a more Kubrickian clean-and-shiny future.
